Default TLC1002 - See-Through Die-Cut Cards 05/05/2024

May Day holiday here today! Yay for a day off.

I have a technique from Jennifer McGuire today - see-through die-cut cards. They are not totally see-through like an acetate card would be, but because your die-cuts create an openwork piece for the card front, there is a see-through element, like those fancy laser-cut papers.
She has a longer more recent video, but as this one is shorter, it's the one I have opted to link. She also includes another technique, but what we are interested in starts just after the ten minute mark for the more open butterfly version, and at 19 minutes for the more intricate flower version.
Essentially you are die-cutting (or stamping and die-cutting, which is what I did) plenty of reasonably small (but not too small) shapes.
Lay a piece of A2 card under something transparent so you can use this a guide for the amount of space you need to cover with your overlapping die-cuts. Try and have the top inch filled fairly densely as you will be gluing this to a tab created by the card base.
I used Press 'n' Seal to hold mine in place, and then I glued them together everywhere they overlapped. After allowing a little drying time, I found there were some places I could have glued that I missed first time round, so I glued those.
** Please Note You will need to use fairly stiff paper/ light card. Possibly the fact that Jennifer's die-cut flowers were layered added extra strength. My first attempt was using photo paper with alcohol inks, and it's beautiful but too flimsy, and bowed when I tried standing the card open. I might be able to rescue it for this purpose by die-cutting some more leaves from plain card and gluing them on the back.
Trim your piece to A2.
Create a top-folding A2 card base, and trim off most of the front, leaving just 3/8" to 1/2" as a tab to which you will adhere your die-cut panel.
See following photos (not to scale). The third one shows my leafy panel still needing reinforcing or being repurposed for something else.

Here's Jennifer's video. I'm sorry - for some reason they are not embedding for me. Maybe just as well, as when they embed I can no longer see them.
I have set it to start at the ten minute point.

Remember to use the keyword TLC1002 when you are uploading. It's helpful if you come back and leave a link on this thread, especially in case you made a typo and people may not find your card.

If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:

1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

Oh my goodness, I love this look! What a thoroughly clever idea! I'll have to try it. I've got so many precut pieces, I might just need the glue, lol.

Thank you for sharing this new technique for me, this was really fun to make, now I've seen yours Sabrina, I think I'll make one more without the extra card on the inside, which will make it lighter

Smile TLC1002 butterflies in the meadow

Thanks for the great challenge Sabrina! I repurposed some die cut butterflies from my stash, doing a bit of DIY- using a clear window style circle for my hinge. Here's butterflies in the meadow

@jkanack How cool—I used the same die as you did and was having technical issues with the stems. I was about to mount the branches onto circles for stability, and add individual leaves like parknslude, but I think cutting the leaves apart might be better. Will experiment more tomorrow.
