AND CHALLENGE #326
MMTPT326 Thankful Pumpkins
Note: Anyone is welcome to play! You automatically become a Teapotter the first time you play in our challenge. Also, you do not have to write a story. You just have to be inspired by the teapot or by the story about this week's location! Have fun! If this is your first Teapot Tuesday Challenge, please mention that in your commentary so we can be sure to greet you properly, in pure Teapot Tuesday fashion! Your participation in Destination Station is 100% voluntary and not at all required. Just have fun!
Our guest hostess for the Tickle a Teapotter challenge this month is....

Mary ~ redi2stamp, and she has a really great challenge for us!
1: It is not quite clear how the term pumpkin came to be a term of endearment. And yet we hear little ones called my sweet little pumpkin , sweethearts refer to each other as pumpkin. We often hear cute as a pumpkin or sweet as a pumpkin used to describe someone with fondness.
2: And since we all have a fondness for each other here in Teapotterville, I think it would be just dandy if we sent each other a pumpkin!
3: Now since I am not much of a story teller.. Ill just give a little story I heard about how the Jack o Lantern evolved from Irish culture to American pumpkin carving! According to the story a stingy jokester named Jack was denied residence in both heaven and hell upon his demise. Forced to roam the earth in darkness, the devil gave Jack a coal from hell to light his way. Jack carved out a turnip and placed the lighted coal inside. The turnip, gourds and other vegetables were carved and lights placed inside on All Hallows Eve became a tradition. Once it came to America, the pumpkin became the perfect vegetable to carve during the celebration of that tradition.
4: The pumpkin harvest falls around the time we now celebrate as Halloween, however it is also around the time of Thanksgiving. Pumpkins and especially pumpkin pie have become almost synonymous with thanksgiving. There is another reason for the tea-potters to exchange pumpkins in thanksgiving for so many blessings including each tea-potter. If you bring bats or spiders, come in the back door!
CHALLENGE TRANSLATION: Bring a pumpkin to the party.
