Take Me Out to the Ballgame....Can I Get Cookies With that Hot Dog?
Note: Anyone is welcome to play! You automatically become a Teapotter the first time you play in our challenge. Also, you do not have to write a story. You just have to be inspired by the teapot or by the story about this week's location! Have fun! If this is your first Teapot Tuesday Challenge, please mention that in your commentary so we can be sure to greet you properly, in pure Teapot Tuesday fashion! Your participation in Destination Station is 100% voluntary and not at all required. Just have fun!
The Rest of the Story:
1: Summer is time for fun at the baseball diamond for sure. And the folks in Wichita Kansas do this in a very big way. Every year since 1938 they have hosted teams from all over the U.S. and Canada for a 16 day double elimination tournament called the NBC World Series. The National Baseball Conference is a summer collegiate leaque of amateur and semi-pro players who are on one of hundreds of teams in 17 different leaques. They are sanctioned by the NCAA and many college players have come through the ranks during and after their college careers with many of them going on to professional careers. Many a player has been "discovered" there. (Congrats to any Seattle Stud fans out there in Teapot land) The last final rounds are a blast of fun with 17 games in 24 hours around the clock.
2: Down in south Texas, Jordie Rey has heard of this tourney and dreamed of making it there since he was just a young'un. He is the new manager of the South Texas Sea Birds and has been training the players hard and setting them a tough schedule in hopes of getting enough wins to get on the tourney roster. Halfway through the season, things are looking good for his team and he has started making arrangements. He has volunteers lined up to help haul players and equipment to Kansas, hotel reservations made, ball caps for supporters ordered, and all the 42,000 other little details of a trip of this type.
3: Now that he is really confident they will make it, the enormity of getting them there is weighing on him. The cost of such a tourney is huge. After contacting all his supporters he is still short quite a bit of the needed dollars to fund the trip. Oh dear....what to do....he spends many a night sleepless trying to come up with new supporters to contact for donations, and even ideas for fundraisers. Seeing him this worried has distressed his dear sister so much that she is now trying to come up with fundraising ideas also.
4: Lil Sis is an avid reader of the "good news" section of the paper and she remembers a story some time ago about a group of 42,000 wild women called teapotters who travel all over helping out people in distress and recalls that they are all cookie lovers too. So she hatches a plan to contact these teapotters and beg them for help. She just knows that they can come up with a special cookie idea to help raise funds. And she remembers that there are several living along I-135 from Houston to Dallas, so surely they will help out fellow Texans. So that night she sends out a missive to the ultra exclusive Teapotterville Gazette paper asking for help.
Challenge Translation:
Bring cookies...bring anything baseball related...bring good wishes and prayers too....just don't bring any rain (nothin ruins a good baseball game like the rain)
