I just posted a "Challenge Catch-up" card to the November 2021 - Sponging, Brayering &/or Blending challenge. It is a January birthday card for my husband's brother.

Here is his card: Let's Have Cattail Weather for January!!

What a difference a day makes! Only -5c outside. My place is still only 20c but I don't feel like I am standing in a fridge any more.

I am still cold. My apartment is still 20c. I went to speak to my doctor and get some meds refilled. I think the parking garage was warmer than my place. Grumpy is picking up the installation and I will cook supper. I guess he will eat in the hall.. further away from me. Oh oh blast from the past! I ordered undershirts! Yup. Grumpy calls it a base layer. I am not the only one who is cold so yup the heating system is not keeping up with the weather.

Stay safe, stay safe and send some heat my way!

Lynn I always thought houses etc in Canada would be super insulated and toastie .

as kids we used to wear a liberty bodice, like a vest but thick material, the buttons were tiny and like rubber , so hard to undo at school, I hated wearing it.

It really depends on then the place was built. Tall buildings are mostly concrete so unless they do something on the exterior wall, then there is nothing. If the house was built when fuel was cheap there is no insulation. The house in Streetsville was built in the early 1950. Very sturdy brick building with newspapers in any voids!

OK I woke up with a tickle in my throat.. I guess because I have been cold for days?

OK good news my bedroom is now up to 69f. My living room is warmer too but it is warmer outside. I think it goes down to -16c tonight so we shall see.

Don't know what is wrong with me. I napped most of the morning. I have been dealing with insomnia for over 10 years so I don't nap. Though I am still very tired, nausea and fuzzy headed. Just going to be safe and stay in my recliner.
stay safe

Lynn, that sounds like a good idea! Rest and relax, but drink lots of fluids. I was ill for a week over Christmas with stuffy head and was so tired that I slept 10 to 12 hours each night!
Hugs

No, I didn't get tested, but I've had both shots & booster. I'm 90% sure it was a head cold. I wasn't around anyone before I got sick and I got the head cold from Tom. He had to cancel his dentist appt. and they said a cold usually lasts 7 to 10 days and was going around, too.

Posting to our January challenge...here is my cheerful and colorful card: So Sweet Thank You!

I'm cheating! This card is for a 96-year old sweet and helpful lady, but she does not live in a nursing home, but alone in her own home, and she is my Mom! First, I don't have a nursing home near me, and I thought my Mom deserved my card! She has been sick and under the weather for over a month, yet never fails to help where she can. My brother lost his wife quite unexpectedly in late November and Mom traveled to his new home in south Oregon to help him out for two weeks, plus she's been helping me keep up with some Stampin' Up orders since I gave up my demonstratorship and she still has hers! She's like the Energizer Bunny, who just keeps going and giving! She promptly came home in early December and came down with a severe head and chest cold that went into bronchitis...not good with her severe asthma. Thankfully, she has turned the corner for better this last week. Thanks, Mom for always being there for us!

-29 outside! Sending it to OZ to cool them down! Happy grumpy isn't out there delivering mail. Though he is smart, he has wool base layers. It is usually his hands that get the worse of it.

Mid month check in. How is everyone? Me I slept 12 hours straight and still feel tired. So I am going to stay in and take it easy

Hi Jan and Lynn! Brrrr that is was too cold! Glad you both slept well. Sometimes when I sleep that long I wake up feeling more tired than when I sleep 7 or 8 hours. So strange. I slept well until Sadie was whining to go outside and neither of us heard her at first and then, she had an accident. So I got up and let her out and mopped the floor at 3:30 a.m. I went back to bed and couldn't sleep, when I did fall asleep, I had a nightmare and woke up all worked up! Sheeesh! There is a full moon...that must be it.

I am playing my "Challenge Catch-up" cardmaking. This is an anniversary card for my youngest daughter and her husband.

Posted to: Stash/Trash - 1/30/19. I've used 2009 leftovers when my sister closed her scrapbook store...paper scraps coordinating stamp/ die-cut stash to complete this card. I always love these papers!

Here is my card: An Anniversary for January!

This is crazy! My balcony has SNOW! Usually the winds blow it off. They are closing roads. I don't understand we have had more snow than this before. The only thing that I can think of is that there aren't enough snow plow operators due to covid.

L6nn, I heard on the radio that they closed the DVP. We may have had more snow than this, but it is not finished snowing. Toronto is expected to get lots more. It took 2 snowblowers to get my driveway cleared. The plow heaped it up to about 4 feet at the end.

Grumpy called me as he was driving home. He told me the DVP was closed. I was looking out the windows as grumpy was trying to go across. So it is a valley and many times you can go downhill but don't have enough umph to go up the other side. A tanker truck carrying some kind of liquid went downhill and just kept going! With that much weight and momentum, no way you can stop. I didn't hear of an accident. 40 to 50 cm so far but now the winds are picking up. Looks like it might be Wednesday before my street is plowed. The road further up will be tomorrow because it is a bus route.

I remember years ago! I was working at this end of the city and living at the other end. York mills has hills. Even with proper tires the busses weren't making up the hill! I had my big coat, big boots, hat and gloves so I started walking. I took transit where possible but it was hours. One year the mayor called in the armed forces. Tons of snow falling in a short amount of time and no place to put it. I knew someone who's roof caved in due to the weight of the snow. Ahh the joys. If you are smart you dress for the weather and have provisions in your car. You know, blankets, extra hats or mitts plus some food and water. You can be stuck for hours. Yup I stay in and watch it on TV. Lol

Lynn sounds like a good plan to stay indoors, I hate driving in snow, steve used to wait at the bottom of our road for me so he could give me a push if needed as I had to come down a steep hill and turn into our road that went straight up hill, always dodgy, then at the top it went downhill to our drive. Keep safe

Lynn and Jan, I'm so thankful that I don't have to drive in snow and ice any more. Lynn, just enjoy the day, relax and stay warm!

On the weather front, I am happy to say all of our 16-inches of snow at Christmas to New Years has finally melted away and the temperatures are back to more normal of highs 48-50F and lows of 35 to 40F. Of course, when it's that "warm," its overcast and showery or raining. It starts dropping at night when it's not raining...but then it can still be overcast and no sun. I think this is the first year I've felt so "down" with the weather...probably because I've had two bad colds taking up most of my December and into the beginning of January. So glad I'm over those!

But, I went to my Monday babysitting, didn't read my text messages, and found she was once again down with a cold/cough with a 102 temp overnight. On-call telephone nurse said...for toddler/ young children that signifies they are fighting off a virus and if she's successful she will be better in a day or two. Guess that's when she has been giving it to me...so daughter decided I just need to stay home. She works from home, so she's been successful at doing her job and watching Evie too. She is a good little gal...easy to watch!

My youngest son is down with that bad cold right now...head/ chest. He took a home Covid test and it was negative so that's good!

I made him a goofy get well card, which I delivered this a.m. as they only live 8 miles away. I'll be posting it soon to S2S, Alphabet, etc. My two main challenges in mind when I made it. It involves a turtle and an umbrella...it'll be Z=zany for my funny creature!

I am still alive .. I think. Got dressed to go get groceries but had to lay down as it took all my energy. So no groceries. Monday Canada Post had people go home early. Today grumpy worked 7 am and got home 7pm. I just hope he was able to find enough to eat. May places were closed because staff couldn't make it in. Hopefully they will find a place for all that snow plus move stranded vehicles.

I did my diabetes class on zoom. I don't like it. It is very simplified and the instructor was stumbling over words on top of a thick accent. I think I got more confused than anything. Oh well I will contact diabetes canada and ask for more help.

Uuggh this message just tired me out. I wish I knew what was wrong?

I made a salmon two nights ago with a Thai Chili sauce topping (after it baked in garlic, lemon, and butter) and artichokes in my Instant Pot. I decided to make entree salmon salads for dinner tonight...it was pretty delicious if I don't say so myself. I used to cook a lot, but not so much anymore with just DH and me. My go to is often Costco's deli meals for main course and then add a veggie or salad, but once in a great while I pull it together and make something myself from scratch.

While oldest daughter, Michele, lived with us between selling her old house and finding a new one, she did a lot of cooking for us. She is an excellent cook and has a good tasting pallet. That I do not have so much. That helps when you want to replicate something you eat at a restaurant and try to figure out what they put in it. She's really good at that!

Lynn...hoping your get your energy back soon. Do they think it might be related to your diabetes? I know my friend said her husband said he was feeling tired all the time before he was diagnosed with diabetes.

OK so yesterday my breating score was 44. Last night was 88 and I feel much better. I managed to get out. I picked up my sock order. Got an interesting compliment. Guy said.. that is the first time in 93 years that someone every held the door open for me. I always hold the door! Anyways I came home and took a break. Managed to get out again for groceries. It has been more than a week since I have been out. I wanted to get groceries before things freeze over again tonight.
