Jean, my mom use to hang out clothes in the winter. We had a wringer washer, but no dryer. The clothes would freeze on the line. We had a wood/coal burning stove in the kitchen and a single line there, so she'd bring in frozen clothes and hang some and lay some over the stove to finish drying. The biggest disadvantage of outdoor drying is that the clothes were always wrinkled, so ironing was a must. I still hate ironing and refuse to do it. When DH was working in an office and had to wear suits, every now and then he'd buy a 100% cotton shirt. I'd tell him to either take it back or he'd be ironing it himself.
Good morning! Another warm day here but should be cooling down (a little) for the weekend. I just don't have enough hours in the day - like all of you, I'm sure.
Jean, how fun that you have that history with Ann.
Anne, congrats to your grandson. That is a fabulous accomplishment and how fun that you got to go out to eat together to celebrate.
A fireplace you can stand in?! That is amazing. I'm not sure your house is over 120 years old anymore though. It sounds like you've replaced/updated most of it! Big projects! Sorry to hear about the water issue and praying it is fixed quickly.
Regarding the gas situation, I'm afraid to go to the station. CA gas is already so expensive, who knows what the price is now...I'll find out soon. I'm not surprised it has cause lines in FL even though your pipeline wasn't affected...remember the TP shortage? On Facebook I saw a note that we should start a rumor about a job shortage so everyone would run out and get one!
You are welcome, Sharon.
Ann, I hope you get a nap. I'm also hoping for pictures of your new flooring.
Anne, that is funny that your DH will have a fit if you move the hosta without him. My DH would be happy for me to get it done! Neither of us are big gardeners which can be a problem sometimes. I'm glad your card arrived.
Jean, I would think that if you have to shovel a path to the clothesline, that you would possibly be retrieving frozen clothes! I grew up in a house that my parents built and I lived in that house all my life until I got married so it wasn't an old house. I loved that house and intended to grow up and buy it. I also intended to take over my mom's job - and didn't intend to get married. Hmmm, so much for plans!
It is about time to hit the road for work. Chat with you later.
Melody, your post popped up after I completed my book above. I used to iron my DH's shirts (not a favorite activity of mine). I quit when he would re-iron them. I told him he could just do the whole job!
And your post confirmed my theory about the clothes freezing on the line.
Oh Sharon I’m so sorry to read your post. Thinking of Larry and hope all goes well in surgery. Sending you both lots of hugs and love.

Praying, Sharon. Happy birthday to your DH. Thank you ladies. I have gotten some cards, but will PM thanks. Dagmar, I LOVE lilacs. I have a hedge of lilacs along one side of the back yard. At the moment, one bush is blooming a bit and a couple of others are struggling with a few blossoms. I'm not sure if there will be more or not. We had some frost earlier this week.
Sharon, so sorry to hear about Larry. Praying surgery goes well and recovery is speedy and complete. Praying for both of you! What a way to celebrate his birthday...happy birthday to Larry!
Happy birthday, Melody! I hope you have a fun day planned. I put the text in purple since you said you love lilacs. I love them too. We had one bush of them at the house where I grew up because my mom loved them.
Beautiful lilacs for Anne and Melody, Dagmar.
Ann, are they done installing the flooring at your house?
I have a LOT to do today so I'd better get off here and get to work...
Had to pop on and wish Melody a very Happy Birthday! I hope you have a wonderful day.
I have yet to catch up on chatter but know that I am thinking of you all. There is a lot going on for my family at the moment (all good) and I will try and pop in and participate where I can.
Hugs to all!

Yes, flooring is done in all three bedrooms. Now we are moving things around still, cleaning, and prepping to paint the smallest bedroom that did not get painted before the flooring went in.
Everything is such a mess yet!
Larry is out of surgery and Sharon is waiting to hear from the doctor.
Oh, man, Sharon, so sorry to hear about Larry and his hip. Thanks Ann for posting the update! What a birthday! Hugs to you both!
Happy Birthday Melody! I love the smell of lilacs too! Hope your day is a fun one with a bouquet of lilacs thrown in!
Ann, you will be happy when it is all done, but the getting there is a lot of work!
Hi Annette!
Tried the Instant Pot last night for the first time. Tried a beef stroganoff recipe I had seen in a magazine. Just was unsure how long to cook it, so it went too long before I cancelled the cooking part, so I think it could have turned out better but was still edible. Dh and I were looking at everything online scrambling to figure out the length of cook time and how to do that part, lol.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes. I did pick a few lilacs for inside. They smell so good.
Shirl, you can usually do a google search with the dish you are making followed by instant pot (beef stroganoff instant pot) and a number of recipes will pot up in the feed. Click on one or two and you will get recipes and times, etc.
Melody - i hope your birthday was all things wonderful! A card is on it's way to you - I'm WAY WAY behind this week!
Sharon -oh no! I hope Larry is okay and sending speedy recovery vibes to you!
Kathy - you are always such an positive encourager!
Hi Shirl! Ann!
We are hosting a farm stand at our house this weekend and have sold out of fruit for today - we are blessed with a bountiful lychee tree and it's The Giving Tree! We send bushels to our neighbors and sell some, too, which sends my son to Boy Scout camp. I sold out in an hour today!
Sharon I’m so sorry to read that Larry has had a fall, sending you both hugs, also birthday wishes for Larry.
happy Birthday Melody hope you have a lovely day.
I'm still not feeling fully fit, feeling very weak but I am eating now! I just thought I’d catch up on the chat only to read Sharon’s news. Steve also can’t put his foot to the ground since standing four hours waiting for his vaccine,
Oh yes, and thanks Melody for your InstantPot advice for recipes. We did not get the manual for it. I can get it online. Not going to print out all 57 pages though.
Thank you, Kelly and Jan. I hope you feel better soon, Jan.
Shirl, the manual for the IP is thick, but only because it's in 3 languages. I found that it had very little helpful information. But these have been around long enough that there is a lot of information on line. There are blogs dedicated to IP, and social media groups as well. So it's pretty easy to find recipes or answers to any questions you have on the appliance.
I’m late..doh and I did think about it two days ago and then forgot...so sorry but better late than never, so here it is......
Happy birthday to you happy birthday to you happy birthday dear Melodyyyyyy, happy birthday to you. I hope that you had a wonderful day.
I love lilac and it reminds me of the lilac tree we had growing in our garden when I was younger.
Thanks for the update on Larry and happy birthday to him too. I hope he’s now recovering well after surgery. Such an awful thing to happen and on his birthday.
Jan glad that you are on the mend and you’ve both now had your vaccines.
happy weekend everyone.
PS: Melody has posted her MMJ challenge..looks fun and maybe can be combined with this weeks Alpha challenge. I know I have a challenge it can fit with too *wink*

I'm finally back! I've missed so much, especially you sweet ladies!
I finally have my home back in order! We had a new sub floor and flooring put in throughout the whole house!!! Crazy 3 weeks! We had to move everything out on the decks or out to the garage...then, move it all back again! We slept in our camper trailer and since we were sleeping in trailer, we decided to go camping for a 4 days!
Nothing makes you feel your age, like moving every room in the house! Whew...glad that's done! Ann, I'm sure you can relate!
Sharon, I'm so sorry to hear about Larry! Big hugs and prayers dear girl!
HUGS TO EVERYONE and Ann, THANK YOU for the new round...can't wait to start crafting again!

We still have items to move back in place and the one last bedroom is not painted yet! I can so relate, Gracie!! Muscles are sore, and it's work, work, work, but will be wonderful when we are all done.
House is a mess! Stuff everywhere but we are slowing getting things in place. I'm slowed by
my the rest of my new bedroom set not being available till July! Will make due, I have a big closet!
So glad everyone is liking this new round!! Many thanks to Shelly, Sharon, and Annette for helping come up with ideas! So happy that we have such a caring, giving, talented, and knowledgeable group of ladies in our Alpha group! Hugs to all!!
Sharon, thinking of you and Larry! Big hugs and more prayers for the two of you.
Off to clean out another container full of stuff and find a place for all of it!
Hi everyone! It has been a busy couple of days for us. We hosted friends yesterday so Friday was busy cleaning, straightening, cooking, etc. and then had them here yesterday. It was a lovely time. I've got laundry going and did a bunch of dishes by hand already today.
So exciting, Ann, to have the hew flooring in place. We have really slowed down here with the interior painting - not that we should have there is just so much to do. DH has been busy weed whacking today.
Jan, so glad you popped in. Sorry you are still not feeling 100%, it will come.
Shirl, I second Melody's opinion that the Instant Pot manual isn't very helpful. I have definitely found better information online.
Sharon, praying for you and Larry and hoping he is doing OK.
Gracie! Welcome back, I have missed you. How exciting to have new flooring. What kind did you get? And yes, moving furniture is exhausting!
Sorry to hear you’re not feeling well Jan. I hope things improve quickly!
Kathy, caring for your mother and dad is a full time job! You are an amazing daughter.
Ann, I hear you! Running up and down stairs has been playing havoc with my knees and back, too! Trying to stand up after sitting on the floor putting books back on the bookshelf...I felt like I was 100 years old! My mind says "yes" and my body says "nope." LOL
Catherine, it sounds like you had a busy, fun weekend with friends! Yay!
Our floor is an Acacia wood-look high-performance vinyl plank flooring. It is gorgeous with the light and dark colors of wood. It's waterproof and dog proof! I love it so it was worth all the bother and work.

Gracie, so happy to see you back posting. What a crazy time you have had while getting new floors- so perfect you have RV to retreat to! We have missed you!
Kathy- your parents are so lucky to have you- but please be careful! especially with your back!
Ann- lots of work, but soon will be like a brand new home!!!
Sharon- you are in prayers and Larry as well!
Jan- hope your feeling better!
Jayne and Melodie- great MMJ challenge. Will try it!
We had a garage sale this weekend and I am happy to have sold a bedroom set- very low price, but wanted to get it out of here! Real wood- not like cheap Ikea furniture...LOL I posted it online and had 12 replies in 15 minutes!
Hope you all have a fantastic week!\
Another Bday card rec'd from Kathy - love the cool fold- Thanks!
Still feeling very weak but having to look after steve as he still can’t put his foot to the ground, our friends got him some crutches so that’s helping, the worse thing is having to cook, thank goodness for the slow cooker, lamb stew yesterday and lamb and veg pie today, I haven’t had to think about meals for thirty odd years so it’s been a shock LOL
Our eldest asked if we were having tuna salad! It’s a family joke as once when steve was ill I complained I had to cook for myself and when I told them I made myself tuna salad they thought it was hilarious so they’ve never let me forget it.
Monday AM, and finally my migraine is gone. Three days is a killer. I slept a lot of the time, but did manage to get a couple of cards done. Not sure they were very good, but at least I tried.
After hearing about painting, new floors, I was looking around, and we need to replace the carpeting in the bedrooms and hall, and the whole inside of our house needs to be painted. Not my craft room, of course (how could anyone ever get in here!), but everywhere but the kitchen and downstairs bath. those were done not so long ago. DD has a friend who is a painter, and I should give him a call.
In the meantime, we are waiting to hear from the fence people as to when they will install the new fence. After we had our inground pool taken out and the yard filled, we noticed the fence was going to need new posts. they shear off at ground level. Instead we're having a white fence put in....will match the neighbors' on one side. Not cheap, but will look nice.
Our hosta is growing as we look at it! We have a circular section of our driveway, and that part has always been perennials. Last year it was all dug out, and replaced with hosta, and this year it has exploded. Looks fabulous, keeps the weeds out, and needs no care. After 5 hand surgeries, I'm not supposed to weed anyway (oh darn!), so it makes my life easier.
Julia (artystamper) and her DH Kent, are coming for lunch on Saturday. We haven't been together for 15 months. Now that we are all vaccinated I can't wait to hug them.
Sharon, I hope Larry is on the mend....it's a terrible thing to happen, and PT will help him so much. DH had a hip replacement, and swears by PT.
Melody, Happy Belated birthday. I lost my list, and Ann was so nice to send it back to me....first thing I noticed was that I missed your day. Hope it was HAPPY!!
Everyone take care! Get better, be well.

Jan, sorry you have to cook again. Hope you feel better soon!
Hi Shelly! I've missed you, too. Glad you sold your bed. We sold a futon we had in about 10 minutes online. They got a good deal...it was like new. In fact, I listed it for $100 and sold it for $120! Bidding war. Ha ha!
Ann, thanks for the update on Sharon and Larry. Hope your back is OK with all that work!
Anne, sorry to hear about the migraines! That's awful. I used to have chronic sinus headaches...no fun! Glad you're feeling better.
I have my Monday morning craft group...better run!
