Happy almost-July...I just wanted to let you know I'm still on the hook for July 1 challenge and hadn't forgotten it!
Thanks Jane!
Post it and I'l get in here as soon as I can to add it to the master list. My daughter/ SIL and baby granddaughter get in on the 30th and leave on the 5th. We have 2 fireworks events while she's here ( one of which I have to cover for the paper on the 3rd)
My time becomes my own again as of July 5th.
Thanks to all of you for your patience while I enjoyed this precious time with my granddaughter.

My family is getting ready to celebrate the 4th of July with all the trimmings, so of course my challenge for you is going to be inspired by Independence Day traditions!!! Since we are making ALL-occasion cards, lets give it a little twist that will make it work for any holiday.
Instead of a color challenge (that's what you were expecting, right?), lets do STARS or STRIPES on our cards. No need to limit yourself to red, white, and blue!
As a bonus challenge, if you make an extra card or two, please consider sharing them with Operation Write Home to send to our Armed Forceswhat a great way to say thank you to our men and women who are missing their families.
Thanks Jane. In an amazing coincidence I have a card on the drawing board that was going to feature stars.....and I'm not even an American! Today is our Canada Day (which is the equivalent of Independence Day) We will be having big festivities in town, culminating with fireworks at 10 p.m.

Happy Canada Day (belatedly) and Happy Independence Day / 4th of July!
I got my June cards made and sent, but not uploaded, so I'll be starting fresh in July. I like stars and shouldn't have any trouble incorporating them into several cards. And I have tons of striped dp, so that shouldn't be a problem either. A good challenge Jane!
Thanks for the Canada Day greetings Val and Jane. We spent July 4 at a cottage in Canada with our American friends, so we got to celebrate both days! I'll be flying off to Texas tomorrow and only taking limited amounts of card making supplies, so I am getting most of my July cards in the mail today (some from my stash). Of course, I may go shopping in Austin....after all, my son lives within 15 minutes of two Hobby Lobbys!

Yesterday was fun, but I am so glad it's over. We fed about 1400 people at our community bbq and music festival that we organize. The day started out very frustrating. The starter in the truck went out so we had to unload everything from there into my son's truck, which we planned on loading up with other stuff. Even after telling DH's nephew the night before that we need to load his truck up with more stuff when he comes to hook up one of the big grills, he shows up with a pickup bed full of grass clippings so we couldn't load much there. By the time we got everything to the park we were running close to an hour behind schedule. I could go on and on about the bad start. The day turned out to be a wonderful day. I got tons of hugs from throughout the day. Somehow they must have known that I needed them. Today will be spent unloading the trailer and returning all the borrowed stuff. Not to mention the repackikng of the supplies for next year. Oops, didn't mean to ramble on. Hope the holidays this week (Canadian and American) were fun.
Heres my card for the Masculine card challenge, Ive made it for my Brother in law who is a golfer, the topper came from some old cards a friend gave me about three years ago and having a tidy round my craft room came across them.
Left love, Jan! Welcome to the group. What a great way to jump in!

Thanks Ina, I had seen the other challenge but didn't realise I could put two challenges on the keyword part, hope you are having a good time with your grandchildren,
I posted one August card already. I still have to do a couple more birthday cards for July. Nothing like working on two months at the same time. Now I just have to finish the guest book for my boss's retirement party. I got the papers cut out for it. I only have a couple more weeks to work on it. Can't finish it until I get my Cinch next week.
Just a reminder we are half way through July. How are you doing? If you've gotten July cards taken care of, take a look at your August list and think about where you need to be heading. Any due the first week in August?'
I know... I"m such a slave driver :-D

The book/card turned out awesome, Debbie!
P.S. I just got your address off the database and addressed your prize envelope. Goes in the mail tomorrow morning on my way out of town. ;-)

I had a surprise tonight. Today is the first day of our county fair. DH always puts something in to be fudged. He got 3 blue ribbons and 4 red. When the workers display the entries things get pretty helter skelter. I walked past some stuff and never paid attention to what was on the table until one of the ladies who works in the building took me right to a bunch of cards. "Hey, this one looks a little familiar. I wonder who made it?" DH snuck into my room while I was at work yesterday and pulled out some cards I made and entered them into the fair. I don't remember how many he put in there. I do know I got some blue ribbons and red. Anything that didn't get a blue got a red. As I'm looking through them I found two that I told our friend she had to pull because they weren't mine; they were cards sent to me from a swap. They did get blue ribbons, but I won't accept the prize money. DH thought I was nuts to be so honest, but I couldn't take the credit. There were a couple cards I did get blues on I didn't think were so great. Obviously they impressed the judges. I told DH if I had known that he was going to do that, I would have had him put in a couple of my Christmas cards instead. I didn't even think of the Christmas cards until today. Ths lady has been after me for years to enter my cards ever since she received a thank you card I made one year for all our help for the 4th of July. I was proud of the blues, but I was a little embarrassed about the ones I didn't make. I guess I have to make a box marked for the fair next year and make duplicates of all the cards I make throughout the year. I kind of wanted to put the "book" card I made for my boss's retirement but I didn't want her to see it yet. I think I'll make one to put in the fair next year, but fill the pages with pictures of my granddaughters throughout the year.
WTG, Debbie. Tel hubby I'm really proud of him.
I miss entering the country fairs. The one here just doesn't impress me. I can't get excited about it.
When we lived in IL, I did 5 county fairs a year. I was entered in every category I could get in at each fair from about July 1st until the final one Labor Day weekend. I stayed within a 1 hr drive except for 2 - but that's because of what I got in the way of critique/ judging from those 2 and they were worth the drive. I never entered less than 100 entries at each fair. All of the baked good were made fresh the night before - every weekend. It was my 'summer' job to earn the money I needed to attend a writers conference in AR every Oct. Plus I had Christmas presents done up way before I needed them LOL
For cookies we only needed 3 or 4. So I would make a fresh batch of dough each weekend, bake 1 sheet of cookies to select the best 3 or 4 from then freeze the rest of the dough. By Nov. 1 I had all the holiday cookie dough I needed for gift trays.
It was a lot of work but I sure miss those days.
I talked to the coordinator at our local co. fair and she said the categories are not sponsored. everyone gets a blue ribbon and prize money! Come on! Where's the fun and competition in that? I'd try to get on the fair board and make some changes but then I couldn't enter anyway LOL

Our fair isn't very good. It looked like the judges just picked something up, put a ribbon on it and tossed it. Most of the time we had to rearrange ribbons and tags so we could see the work. Each year I get more and more disappointed in our fair. I know I'm being biased, but Vince entered something I felt should have gotten best of show. Best of show seems to always go to the same person in the arts division year after year. He's a very well-known pencil artist in Montana and I believe in some other surrounding states. He even owns his own art gallery and everyone knows his work even without looking at the name. His originals sell for thousands of dollars and his prints are pretty pricey, too. I buy his calendar every year because it's the only way I can afford any of his artwork. Don is awesome. He admires Vince's work. No one even hopes for best of show because they know they can't compete against Don. However, Don is a very humble person and is appreciative of his awards. He doesn't take them for granted.

At the IL shows, he would not be allowed to enter in that category because he would be considered 'professional'.
The fair here in West Plains... I talked to the coordinator at length last year.
They do not have sponsors for the categories. Basically, if you enter you get a ribbon - usually a blue. So everyone on biscuits may all take first place.
I prefer a bit of competition and know mine won for a reason. Yep a bit conceited and HIGHLY competitive LOL

where our Co fairs in IL took up 1 and 1/2 morton buildings for Arts/ Collectibles/ Home Arts/ Canning... the WP fair here takes up less than 100 sq ft. of space for everything except Art/ floral/ harvest. That is all held in the 4-H building and it's hard to tell where youth and adult divisions are in that building. Those 2 items have a building all to themselves. Yes, disappointing. That was something I really enjoyed.

Sounds a little like our fair except the 4H is in a seperate building.
Ooooo Jan, what are you trying to do to me? Embarass me in front of everyone? I will be forced to upddate at the end of the month, but I went to three different Hobby Lobbys while I was in Texas, and I am chagrined to say that even though I have lots of exercise points to subtract and allowance for weight loss, I will be about $30 higher than when I left for Texas. Maybe the Dare to Get Dirty challenges this coming week will help.
