My magnets would not slide apart no matter what I did. So I took them over to my neighbor who has a work shop. He couldn't get them apart either, because everything he use was metal and it couldn't let it get between the 2 magnets. I was so beside my self that threw the magnets in my small tool box on my desk. I noticed that my circuit spatula did not stick to them. So I put the magnets on a magnetic strip and carefully and gently slid my spatula between them. Like magic they slid apart .
Seems like you got an extra strong batch
I don't bother with sliding anything in between. I just have to very persistently try and slide them in opposite directions. They will try to snap back, you just have to resist this and keep sliding them. The trick is to slide, not try and pull apart.
WOW so many awesome tips! I'm so glad CherylQuilts forwarded this thread to me. I always have trouble getting my sentiments straight onto the paper. So decided to get the MISTI after learning about it in one of Cheryl's post. Now I'm just waiting for it to come in so I can try out some of these tips! Thanks so much for sharing and thank you Cheryl for your continuing help!
Well, I am intrigued now. Just today someone told me about a MISTI - never heard of it before. I'm going to watch the videos asap. Are they available in stores or online? k
Getting your MISTI directly from Iliana is the best IMHO. And it comes quickly and well packaged. I'm giving one to a friend for her birthday and bought all the accessories and four magnets! She's going to LOVE it!
Magnet Attack, I'm so happy you survived all in one piece :-D They are sneaky little devils for sure. I lost two on my craft table one day. I went nuts looking, and finally found them stuck to the back side of my MISTI. I agree it hurts like a son of a gun when skin gets pinched between two, and it's not easy to get your pinched skin free. Loved your story.
OMG - I've been going crazy trying to find my lost MISTI magnets - I can't wait to get home to see if they are stuck on the back of my MISTI. I've lost them before and but then found them several weeks later stuck to a pair of scissors.
I'm still waiting for mine which still in the "processing" status and it's 2 weeks now. Maybe it's a sign that I should just enjoy not making cards a bit longer. He-he ;)
I have no idea if this would work, but I thought about it last night. If you print out an image on regular paper and go over the lines with a raised medium (such as Glossy Accents), could you adhere the paper to the inside lid of the MISTI, ink the medium, and use it as a stamp? I've never seen that done, but like I said, just had one of those "sitting in traffic" random thoughts.
Love that idea. I wonder if silicone caulking would work.
Might have to get this case. The one I have 'just' fits the MISTI with no room for extras - bad investment. Your MISTI gets such a pretty case to travel!
Has anyone tried using the MISTI to assist in lining up layers on cards. I won't receive my MISTI for 2 days yet but I'm hoping that I can also use it to accurately align card layers by putting a couple of tiny bits of removable adhesive on the inside of the lid, put permanent glue or dry adhesive on the back of the piece and close the lid to attach it to the base card.
I can't wait to try it out but I am concerned with safely removing any sticky residue that may be left on the inside of the lid.
Any ideas? Thanks much!
Hi, welcome to Splitcoast! I love your username, and I'm waving to you from Bakersfield - I spent a few of my growing-up years in Walnut Creek, not far from you.
I haven't seen this done, but I can envision what you're talking about. You'd have to have an extra piece of foam in the base in order for the lid and base to meet at that level, but it could work. If I ever get a chance to clean my desk this weekend I'll see if I can make it happen.
Hi Dini. Thanks for the reply and the welcome. I spent 26 years in Danville so I sure know where Walnut Creek is. I'll be interested to hear the outcome of your "test", if you find the time. I can't wait to get my MISTI tomorrow. I can't buy one for each of my students to use but I can certainly show them how it works.
OK - I'm thinking that by the time you put temp and permanent adhesive on your layer and line up on the grid, you might as well just go directly to the card base rather than setting up each layer every time - there isn't any time saved there.
What you CAN do with the magnetic base, however, is keep a thin block in place with the magnet to help you line up a layer... if your card base and the block are flush with the side of the MISTI base, you'll have a straight layer every time. This works with the Tim Holtz gridded blocks, which are 1/8" thick.... 1/4" blocks work with the magnets too, but not as well.
Great idea and thanks again. I've never heard of Tim Holtz gridded blocks but I'll be looking them up. I never considered there would be any that are so thin. I do love discovering new ways to do things.
This may be a repeat, but I found a great use for the MISTI. I had a stamp that I wanted to make different colors. So I was able to ink each part separately and re-stamp it perfectly each time.

Thanks to ladyofcards and dini, my new case and blocks showed up today!! I ordered a solid padded pink one (with handles), and a zipper pocket in the front to handle the blocks beautifully. You two are great enablers!!! There's plenty of room for grid paper, and since I recently purchased the grid pad, it holds the black one with plenty of room as well. I also have room for my vinyl piece I made for my unmounted stamps. Can't thank you enough for the great idea, I was cramming my little MISTI in my Score Pal bag, so this beats the tight fit of goodies in there. Great suggestion!!!!
I don't know if others are doing this, but it has been a huge time saver for me. I cut my odd shaped dies cuts out of fun foam and store the negative in the case with my stamps and dies. The stamp drops down into the foam for perfect alignment when stamping. I cut out the paper die cut first and ink second. Perfect and easy with the MISTI.

What's really fun is to use the die cut foam piece as a stamp! I've used them to make mirror images. Do you use 2 or 3 mm. thick foam?

Maybe this has already been addressed in another thread and I missed it. I have some of the old JustRite stamps with the grids on the back. Is there any way to use them with MISTI? I do still have the gridded blocks, but don’t always get the crisp impression I do using MISTI with clear and cling stamps.
I am trying to use the Misti to stamp on acetate. I'm making the
magic card. the acetate keeps sticking to the stamp when I
pick up the "door" (when I'm placing the stamp and after I've
stamped. Is there some way to make the acetate less
sticky?
yes. they are new also - don't know if that makes a difference.
It does - photopolymer will always lift the paper in the MISTI - even cardstock and even older, more seasoned stamps, but seasoned stamps will be less sticky. The magnets are meant to hold your cardstock still in the corner while you're stamping, but they will never prevent a photopolymer stamp from lifting the substrate out. That's why the corner is great - you know it will be in the same place every time.
