Default MIX460: First Impression

Title: First Impression
Hostess: Janelle S (a.k.a. Dizzymommie)
Keyword: MIX460Welcome to a new challenge week in the Mix-Ability forum! We are here to help you with your first step or 100th step into mixed media that will be fun and approachable. If it's your first time and you have more questions stop by our "What is the Mix-Ability Challenge?" Now that we've been introduced, let's get to our challenge!

Our challenge will be taking us on a walk with one of the great impressionists of all time who happens to have been born this month! Claude Monet took great effort to highlight the stroke of a brush on canvas. So, pick a coloring medium and give it center stage at what it does best!

When you are finished with your project upload it to your member gallery and add "MIX460" in the keyword field. We would love to see it in the challenge gallery!

Here is the card that I used watercolor for my medium and getting those brush strokes required some practice. I don't believe Claude Monet was known for brush strokes with watercolor as I've created here, but I guess I wanted to challenge me and my supplies. LOL

Here is the acrylic card, which I am much more comfortable in that medium, but I did challenge myself by adding the strokes on a gel printing plate and pulling the print. Doing all of it at once created a mushy style, so I made layers by pulling each third of the print. Still took some playing around and I have quite a few prints to use now for other projects. Love that kind of stash!

Hope this is the sort of thing you wanted. It's not all strokes, but I tried to leave some defined vertical ones, representing the overhanging trees reflected in the pond. We've been fortunate enough to visit Giverny three times over the years, this photo is from our most recent visit. I used gesso as well as watercolour, so I hope that counts as MIXed.
