Default would love to win

I love to stamp but by the time I get to the point where I can/do, there's little time left. I have a desk and little more. That should not win me the prize...I'm probably like many others. Stamps in a closet in my husband's office, paper in drawers or stacked, inks toppling over, punches, etc in the drawer of the one desk I have. EXCEPT in this. Apparently I have become the biggest clutz

On Aug 12, I fell going UP some stairs, actually fell before I even got on step one. Spent 3 days in the hospital with so many breaks in my leg bones. Surgury on the 14th, Home on the 15th. No weight allowed on my left leg for at least 2 months and then another 2 or 3 before I can put full weight on it.

THEN on the 17th, while trying to hop on the walker to get to the dinner my daughter (who came down from another state with her 3 kids to help my husband care for me), I toppled over backwards and broke all the bones in my left arm. Another hospital trip by ER and then home til the surgery on the 21st. So for now and the 6 months, my bedroom is now in the KITCHEN! Cuz I can wheel around this floor only. No stairs!

Yes, I am 60 but I have had bone scans which tell me I had great bones. My 2 doctors say these were just freak occurences but I am trapped. I can barely get around in the wheelchair. And it's going to months like this. IN ADDITION....even my Cricut is upstairs and I can't get there for who-knows-how-long. I think that system would fit into the unit. Oh, wouldn't it be wonderful to just wheel over to it and really do something besides lie on the bed or sit staring out the window?

So yes, I could sure make total use of this stamping station. Please consider me. No..this is not a madeup story. It is all true. There's a picture of me in my kitchen bedroom, leg up and arm wrapped[IMG][/IMG]

Thumbunny asked me the following which I so appreciated. So I thought I'd edit my original post to include my answer. Hope this is OK:

Now this is great therapy.

1. When I was young, I had rheumatic fever. There wasn't much a 1st grader stuck in bed could do, so my mom started me on the crafting path, bless her heart. I started with knitting and mosaics I remember. Then on to sewing. I started rubber stamping so many years ago, long before it was 'the thing' to do, before there were sets. Just single stamps at Pat Catans. I craft before it has always provided an outlet for me. I think we are all gifted with various things and in the midst of all, is the creativity that reflects the creativity of the earth and universe, etc. I think it gives voice to some inner need I have, you have, we all have. Some poor people never get to tap into it.

2. My mom and aunt crafted in small measure as well. What I learned from them that always make something for yourself as well as what you give away. My poor aunt did amazing ceramics for everyone but never for herself. When my mom died, I returned this huge nativity set to my aunt because she had never made one for herself, but had for my mom and me and several others. So I take the time to decide...do I keep the first one (which might need some tweaking) for myself or if it's OK, am I willing to make another for myself were I to give it away. But giving things away to others is such a joy...and it's fun to share what I have learned to do with others who may or may not craft. My best friend crafts in a different way than I do...but I've come up with come projects for her that have turned out to be huge projects for the both of us. One year we must have made 40 wooden snowmen. Another time we made 15 advent calendars. I think it's easier to stamp and give because it brings instant gratification to both the sender and the receiver.

3. Impact of a craft on me or another? Wow....As I sit pondering this, I think about a deep purple dress I knitted for myself when I was in high school. I doubt I wore it often but it was something I wanted to do and did it. And I had kept that dress for years. One day my 3rd daughter who was in high school came down the steps. She who had never found the dress decided she needed to model it. I think she was teasing me about it in many ways....like the size I was in high school, the time it took, and why I didn't wear it more often. But you ought to see the things she knits herself...and no she didn't knit before that modeling day. My oldest daughter and my 4th daughter are amazing artists. I doubt they got that gene from my crafting ones but you really ought to see the cards and notebooks my oldest one creates...and then gifts to me. They are pure works of art. And she gives them away so easily and freely and makes them by the bushelload. I tell her she could sell them, but she won't do that. She does her art for art sake. My 2nd daughter actually is developing another artform...cooking. And lastly, I had a son. and seeing all the scrapbooking and stamping in the home, he opted to make a scrapbook while in high school. And it was very well done. I doubt there's much that can effect the world more than what affects the family.

Wow...now that was a group of therapeutic questions. thank you so much for asking me. I feel very happy right now.

And no, I don't believe I'll win the scrapbox for my pathetic physical state...but I sure have loved these thoughts and the time I've had to contemplate them, and life and what I will create next!

I'm so sorry about all your falls. How awful! I hope you recover soon and completely!

On another note ... I don't think you should have the cabinet. It might hurt you. I think I should have it.

Default you should have it? REALLY?

You think you oughta have MY unit? Really? Sniff Sniff, Pout Pout...Well, OK if you really think you need it more than me, then that's the way it'll turn out. SIGH...I'm resigned to the bed....and no creativity......I will have my husband just toss my things out the window and allow everyone who passes to just take my stamps, inks, punches, etc., etc.

Send me pix of your new unit...sniff sniff, cry cry.

Oh, Susan!! I TOTALLY think you should win this!! Anyone who gets stuck in bed with multiple broken bones at the same time needs SOMETHING to look forward to when she can finally go back upstairs!! Good luck to you, my friend!

that is a thought and definitely one that I think about whenever I do anything. Is "this" going to hurt me? Will I fall again? maybe I should have wondered, will this scrapbox fall down on top of me. Will #2 get it when I'm dead. THEN I remembered it can be bolted to the wall.

Thank you so much for your kindness

Berlycece...what a great idea. I have to start both OT and PT tomorrow and I might suggest this as a possibility instead of having to be dragged out of the house 3x week. I could do it all from home. You are so creative! thanx

Jostvig...actually thinking about stamping again is helping my head at least. My children are all more creative than me but as I sit and look through my pop up books and at stamped cards people have sent me, I find myself imaging what I might creative first. thanx for the thought. Recovery is coming along...never knew it would take so long nor that I had this much fear in me!
