I see a lot of Pinterest craft rooms having a white work desk and drawers. I'm considering purchasing this from Ikea. Wondering if anyone has anything similar and how it holds up. I would protect the top with some sort of covering, of course, but I'm wondering about inky fingers opening the drawers, etc.
Aww, now just why do you think that you'll be getting inky fingers on the drawers??? Huh??? ;)
It looks like a nice desk. I think I'd put a sheet of plate glass on top.
Then I'd probably open the drawers by sticking my fingers inside the holes to pull on the drawer. Because then I'd only get ink on the inside. hehehe! ;)
Inky fingers....it could happen. Yes, I'd definitely cover the top, probably with glass. I suppose I could put drawer pulls on. Might help. Or like you say, hope it lands on inside of the drawer! I wish I was a "neat" crafter, but I'm not. I'm messy!
joyce
I have the Ikea desk top and the Alex file cabinets like in your picture. I Love it! I have a small space and it fits perfectly in my spare bedroom. I also bought a white chair to match from IKEA. I keep a small cloth on my desk when I ink. I also lined the drawers
I have an Ikea table top with one of the Alex drawers at the end. I'm not a clean & tidy crafter, but so far had no issues with marking the drawers with ink. Definitely put something like a craft mat/cutting mat on top, as it is possible to scratch it. I had a couple of old 'in tray' type plastic trays on one full of wood mounted stamps I was getting around to unmounting. Dragged the tray across the desk, and there was a sharp bit of broken plastic on the bottom, which scratched! Fortunately, my BS Pro sits there now.
I have a similar desk from IKEA. Even though I tried to be careful, I have gotten ink on the desk top. Baby wipes have gotten the ink off with no problem.
I had a white desk before I got my craft room and I hated it. When I would layer on white cardstock, I would have to put color card-stock under it, just to see the white card-stock.
My desk top is now a beige color that use to be our old kitchen counter tops. Love it!
I have the same desktop, but in black. I love it. If you are afraid to mess up the white, you can always use a tablecloth to cover it up, then you really could get messy!

In my studio, my computer and sewing tables are white and have a piece of glass cut to size. However, my crafting tables are large enough to have a Olfa quilting cutting mat on them. Readily available from either a sewing store or from WalMart for about $25. The additional advantage: I have an instant measuring surface with the grid running vertically(23") and horizontally(35"). Often I line up multiple cut pieces of paper and can stamp/add adhesive/etc on several papers at one time. A nice production line!
I use JetMax cubes and the ones closest to my stamp desk all have over spray from misting that are hard to remove because I usually don't see it until after it dries. the have lovely little dots of purple, pink, green LOL
I wouldn't want any other color than white. I had black but it was a little depressing for me and it was a problem keeping it dusted.
I have the same desk set up in my craft room.. but I went with this table top instead to add a bit of color and so it wasnt all white.. LINNMON Table top - birch effect - IKEA
Then for my stampin area.. I used this on top of the table top for protection PRJS Desk pad - IKEA
DD has a white Ikea desk and it has some marks that haven't come off easily (mostly gel pen). Also, tape has been known to damage the white layer on it. So I'd definitely recommend some sort of covering for the top. We used clear vinyl tablecloth, cut to fit.
I have it over my timber tabletop too and when it gets old, take it off and let the kids use it on the floor for a messy mat.
