I am in the process of unmounting my wood-mount stamp sets, and have not been able to think of anything to do with the leftover blocks and cases - anyone share some ideas for these?
You can donate your blocks to schools for the art program. And I agree, the clam shells make great storage. I have 2 quickutz alphabets and they fit perfectly in the clam shells which I can then slid into my jetmax drawer.
I'm saving the new blocks for our granddaughters to play with, I don't have that many and tossed the used ones. As for the cases, they are very handy for storage, especially card projects and I have 2 that I use for sponges that I cut into 1/8 pieces.
A couple friends and I got together with my dismounted blocks and this is what Con came up for us....mine still needs to be assembled and this is making me want to get up and do it, hahaha..enjoy.....
I am also unmounting all my 70+ sets of stamps - great ideas for the blocks!! And, although I don't think I'll ever fill all those cases, I will save some for storage.
My DH wants to burn the blocks in the firepit ... I may have to fight him for them ;-)

I tossed all of the blocks that had stickers and adhesive on them. The unused ones always go very fast if I list them on the BST forums. I just ask for reimbursement for the postage. Same with extra clamshells.
Another use for the clamshell boxes - I cut the lids off a whole bunch of the background stamp sized ones and I use them to store my unmounted wheels. I stick two jumbo or three regular ones side by side and then stand the lids up in a basket that I keep on my shelf. It's super easy to flip through the basket to find the one I need.
I'm in the middle of a HUGE purge. I just found this whole Iris cart drawer full of wood blocks. Some have images on them, but what I would do is just put the stamp on that side leaving the clean side for your labeling.

I didn't unmount my stamps, but I did take them out of the SU cases and combined sets of similar style/theme into larger Stampendous Thicker cases. So I have LOADS of empty cases, just like those of you who unmounted all of your sets.
I use my empty cases for:
Storing buttons by color (a stack of cases takes up less surface space than loads of jars, and the cases are a whole lot easier to dig through than jars!)
Storing the die cuts I make... Example: When I make tags, I cut out a BUNCH of them at once in the colors I use most often so I don't have to drag the machine out all the time just to cut out a tag.
Protecting overly decorated cards (or even small gifts) that get mailed I slip the case into a bubble envy. They're light, and offer nice protection during shipping.
Glitter storage container for my most used colors that I seem to have gobs of -- tuck a plastic spoon into the case too!
I keep one in the kitchen junk drawer, for misc little screws, safety pins, etc
Storing napkin rings, corn on the cob handles, extra small cookie cutters, cake decorating tips, etc in the kitchen -- you'd be amazed what you'll find in the kitchen to put in the small cases!
I love the cases for storing my Big Shot dies and embossing folders. I keep the dies with any cs pieces I have already cut or embossed together in the same case.
I put a label on the edge, and an image of the contents in the base or lid of the case.
Cases are also handy for storing markers.

OOOOh what a great idea ... now a days I keep the packaging my dies come in but I have quite a few that are unprotected. Which is worrisome when I need to cart them somewhere. I am going to be reevaluating thats for sure!
I also have a "Clip it Up" ... I store my silk flowers and seasonal ribbons in the cases. The clip fits the edge perfect and you can see everything at a glance. Plus it keeps them clean.

this is what I did with some of my left over big blocks. I am going to make others because it is easy and they will make nice gifts and decorations for myself.

I made holders for the distress inks foam blending pads.... just put self-adheasive velcro on one side and the foam blending pads will attach. I had enough blocks to make one for each distress ink color I have.
I think I saw a post a while ago about making photo clips* from the blocks. I'm wondering if anyone has pictures and instructions?
*Not sure if this is the right term. The blocks are decorated, sometimes stacked. Then a strong wire is inserted. At the end of the wire is an aligator (?) clip, (or the wire is bent creatively) to hold a photo.

So instead of buying a handle for each distress ink I am going to adhere velcro to the block and have the foam. On the top and or side of the block I will mark which Tim Holtz Distress Ink the block is for and store them in the clam shells. The youtube video I saw was making your own with children's building blocks but I figured why not use the wood blocks from my stamps that I am unmounting and using ez cling to mount to an acrylic block. HTH.

My friend did the exact thing you are doing with the distress inks. It works really well for inking the sides of your cards. I am now going to do the same thing. She had originally used velcro, but decided to just stick with glue, since she has one block for every color.
