Just wanted to share the stamp pad storage container I made today. It is soooo ugly!
I got the idea from the lady who made hers from cd cases; although, hers turned out pretty. I made mine from the cd case inserts. While unmounting and storing rubber stamps, I took apart many cd cases, so I had tons of inserts left over to use. They didn't all match, but that's o.k.. Before I was more worried about looks, but now I am more concerned about function, as I have gotten tired of digging supplies out of containers and then the headache of putting them all back. I just want to grab my stuff and work and be able to just toss it back in it's spot. I even glued all the ruined cds into it, so I wouldn't have to worry about finding a use for them. Here are some pics. I posted the prettiest pics; believe me, some are even uglier than these! lol.
I used two inserts for each side and bottom, except for the back. I ran out of inserts. I used hot glue, so there are glue drips and strings all over it, but that's o.k.. I am very happy with it. It has enough room for all my stamp pads and enough to add a few more. That is all I needed. So happy I reused something I would have thrown away, and it was free! I could probably have spent more money, gotten into more debt and bought something, but I like this much better!
Here is where the idea came from; although, like I said hers is pretty! It was from Sew It Seams and her post is further down the thread. SU Stamp Pad Storage by emily123 at Splitcoaststampers
I really like this one too! Rebel Inker: An inkpad holder for $6?
Would be neat to make customized storage containers from foam core board.
If I were to make another stamp pad storage container, I would probably like making it out of cd cases, as SewItSeams did, but I was just using what I had on hand. Hers is so much prettier!!! Now I have to figure out what I am going to make with all of those rubber stamp blocks.

This is a great idea! I like the recycling idea and "free" is always a plus. If you want to pretty it up later you could probably glue deco card stock onto it, but as long as it serves the purpose and you are happy with it that is all that matters.
What a great idea!!! I am right there with you!! So tired of going through containers to find stuff....then have to put everything back!!! Uggghhh! I just want something that is functional!!!
I'm marking the other thread for even more ideas!! Thanks!!
And I agree with the other poster...you could pretty this up later if you decide to...wouldn't be hard with a little paper, ribbons...etc.
Thanks so much for sharing!!! I'm tired of getting frustrated trying to be creative!!
I used to be so into "what will other people think"? Now, I'm into "if it makes me happy, that's all that matters". I think it's an awesome idea and the fact that you got to recycle what you already had and it didn't cost you anything. . . how can you beat that?

Thanks for saying mine were "pretty!" I thought mine were pretty ugly, but they worked great! (Don't feel bad, I had hot glue everywhere, too!)
I've since gotten as a gift the SU ink pad caddy (actually my dh wanted my storage units, haha). I've already grown out of it and no more room for another one on my nice crafting table, so I'm back to using the CD case units! Sure glad I had plenty of them!
I'm like you, I have tons and tons of the inserts and I use mine to wrap my ribbon around and they stack standing up very nicely in a drawer unit.
I also had tons of blocks, I cleaned half up and gave them to the new preschool and the rest we are slowly using as fire starters in the fireplace!!!!
If anybody has a hand made, simple idea for an ATG stand without routing or such, let me know!!!!
Wow, those are some great ideas. Had'nt though to use them for ribbon storage, but I did use all the ones I had available.
Great idea about using the blocks as a firestarter also. At some point, the glue gun will be seeing some of my blocks. ;)
Your storage unit was pretty! It deserved another nice comment!
Thanks you all for all the nice responses! After I get through unmounting my stamps (which hopefully will be by tomorrow!!!), I will have to come up with some ideas to use for my blocks. The glue gun is fast, but it is messy, and I have to watch that I don't burn my fingers, but wow, is it FAST!
