I am a Mom. I am a teacher. I am a divorcee. I am financially challenged. I am hopeful. All of these are statements that describe me, but let us get to the juicy stuff. I am a mother of four adopted children, I chose to adopt when I met them. They were 5, 3,2, and eight months. At the time, I was volunteering at a day care and these four angels walked in with their foster care worker. Their parents were divorced, their Mother was a drug addict, her boyfriend was abusive and their fathers were missing. I was in college and my DH was advancing in his career and we became an instant parents after passing the necessary tests and checks through the foster care system. My children are now 13. 11, 10 and 9 and honor students, participants in the local theatre company, track stars, in karate, dance and cheer. They are amazing human beings and a success story in and of its self. My ex-DH decided three years ago he wasnt cut out for parenting and never came home after work. I've seen him three times since then and only in court. Last year for my birthday my perfect children decided to give me the gift of a lifetime, a scrapbooking room. My 10 year old cleaned out her room in the night, moved in with her sister, and they set up a scrapbook/card making room just for me because, and I'll quote their card, "You're the best Mom in the world and we wanted you to have the one thing you've always wanted." I guess I didn't realize I had verbalized the fact that I wanted one. Apparently, I underestimated how much they actually listen to me. They decorated it in my favorite colors and hung pictures of themselves and their artwork everywhere. I was over the moon, but I knew I could not accept it. What kind of Mother takes a room from her child so she can scrapbook and make cards? We argued all day about it, I tried to reason with them, but they would not give in. Finally, after dinner my daughter came to me and said that it was what she wanted most for me in the world and if I gave it back she would be devastated. Now, am I the luckiest woman in the world? In a word, yes. We moved in a desk, a lamp, and a table. I have a couple of organizers and a bunch of stuff hanging from tacks on the wall. I am blessed, I am more than blessed and when I saw this opportunity I thought it would be selfish to enter. However, after giving it a good amount of consideration I also think that I give so much of myself to my children at home and the kids that I teach that it would just be nice to retire to my scrappy lounge and have that beautiful hutch organizing all of my things. So I decided I am going to try because I know I would tell my children that they deserve it and Im trying to start thinking some of the same thoughts for myself.
The reason I need the scrapbox is simple, I literally have no where to store anything. My desk has four drawers and other than the little organizers I have purchased everything is in piles or hanging in walmart bags from tacks off of the walls. This would be perfect because the room I am in is a small room but I could fit everything in it and use my walls so that my kids could hang up more of the stuff they create or that we make together. So that is the juice, thanks for reading and good luck to everyone!
You have my vote hands down. The clincher was your daughter moving out of her room during the night (all children should be snuggled in their bed having sweet and safe dreams at night) and moving in with her sister. That is the most unselfish thing. Most children can't wait to have their own room and make it their own. You have great children. Please give each of them a hug for me. Good Luck to you!
Thanks everyone, I showed this to my kids and let them read the responses my youngest daughter said, "They all seem so nice, we should have them over for dinner." So it's pot roast night tomorrow, please RSVP. HAHAHA She is so sweet!

I'll be there. I can't wait to meet your children. Maybe we can get a little stamping time in, too. Hahaha.

Oh I will bring dessert, some "Grams Best Brown Sugar Cake". I would bring over some stuff to stamp with you but I cant seem to find anything...
Oh thank you for your story!! I may have entered myself but if I was asked I would vote for you.
Be proud of yourself and of your children, your stamping area will come in due time!!!
I've read several entries since Saturday and your post simply stands out in my mind the most. You are obviously raising wonderful kids and I hope their wish for you to have a *nice* craft room is completed at the end of this contest!
Best of Luck!
