I am trying to get my craft room clean and organized so I can actually work in here and not have to cart every thing to the kitchen table, then back again. I bought a curtain rod to put my punches on, but only the Whale of a punch ones seem to be working. For one thing it stands too far out from the wall. This is just a regular plain ole run of the mill curtain rod. That is all our Walmart had except for round, expensive, decorative ones. What do you do with all those Marvy punches that are flat with just a little slit to slide the paper in? I also have a bunch of little bitty punches, and a couple of the Martha Stewart ones, and one of the EK success that folds flat. I very seldom use any of them, mainly because they are stuck in a drawer and I don't see them. Any ideas or tips would be most appreciated. Thanks.
This is how I used to store my whale punches. Note that the top rod is a 1" rod found at Linens and Things. I have found the 1" ones at LOWES, Target and Home Depot, too. Bed Bath and Beyond carries them.
I just put up 2 round cafe style curtain rods (I think they were like 4 dollars at walmart) about 2 months ago. I love them. I tried the ones like in the photo above. But it just came out to far from the wall for me, as this made them tilt back to much. I have all my SU thumb lever punches on them (the round cafe ones) and the scalloped punch, some of the med EK thumb punches on there, and my MS eyelett scollped boarder punch. The big ones from Mary/uchida are in a drawer of one of those 4 drawer carts, as are the tiny ones. the tiny ones are in an old check book box in the drawer with the bottom stacked into the lid so it is open.
I have to say one of the happiest parts of my room is looking over and seeing my punches on the wall. :-D
I started out with 1" cafe rods. They don't sit so far away from the wall that even small punches fit. My punches were getting too heavy, though, and causing the rail to bend, so I bought the Bygel rails from IKEA. I don't know how far away from the wall they are, but the small punches fit, so it works for me. They're much stronger than cafe rods.

Do you happen to have any wire cubes in your room? I ran across the very problem you just mentioned, and I discovered (quite by accident) that my lever-style punches fit nicely in the wire grids. I'm attaching a picture to give you a better idea. HTH!
Sophia_77, thanks for the post.... great idea even if you figured it out by accident. DH does not want me to use rods on the wall. I have a shoe bag on the back of my door but I only use for light weight items. My friend's door was damaged with the amount of punches she placed in the shoe bag. I have seem a wood carousel that I would love to have but a bit pricey. This may be an alternative for me.
