Question Storage Of Wood Mount Rubber Stamps Long Term

Hi! How are all of you doing today? I hope you are doing wonderful! I need some help. I have some of my wood mount stamps that I need to store for about a year. How should I store these stamps? Can I store them Vertically in the old clamshell cases in a box? I know you are not supposed to stack them more than 2 high, that is why I am thinking it would work to store them vertically. Any suggestions or ideas would greatly be appreciated!

Maybe I'm not understanding you but I have never heard of this wood stamp cases rule. I've always had mine stored horizontally in multiple layers. In recent years I have stored some vertically which has been fine too. So I'd say either way would be fine.

Tigerlily55, I was told that on wood mount stamps you shouldn't stack them higher than 2 - 3 layers...from what I have been told, it cause the foam to compress and the rubber to loose the crisp lines?? Not sure...thinking storing them vertically should help elevate some of that pressure ;)

Devil's advocate answer: rip the rubber off the wood and store them any way you want to - problem solved!

I know that solution doesn't work for everybody, but it certainly has been helpful for me. That being said, I've heard the "rule", but know plenty of people who have successfully ignored it for YEARS...

Yes, I think vertical would be fine. You probably don't have time to unmount your stamps even if you are interested in that. Good luck.

If you store them vertically, be careful of the ambient temperature. If you're storing them somewhere warm, the glue holding the rubber on could warm up just enough to have the rubber slip down the wood. I had this happen with a few sets of mine, and they weren't even that warm. Since then I've always stacked my clamshells 5-6 high and never had a problem. I just took my stuff out of storage after 3 years and nothing was wrong with any of it. My pads were even still moist, and they were just sitting out.
Hope that helps a bit!

I've never heard that rule. My SU wood mount are still in the clamshells. I don't see how there would be pressure on them, as the top of the box isn't touching them.

Mine have been stored horizontal for years. I generally have them 3-5 boxes high.
