How do you store your stencils? I am trying to re-arrange my scraproom and need some ideas as to how to store my stencils. I have less than 50 stencils; but, I am sure they will multiply in the near future. Thank you for your suggestions.
My 6 X 6 ones are stored in a photo album of the same size. Each page is labeled with the stencil name. I have some of other sizes and they are in a 3 ring binder in page protectors, labeled on each page. I use the 6 X 6 more often. I filled my album up and have more, so I wish my album was bigger.
I'm getting ready to make this . Most of my stencils are 6" square; I will need to do another size for my Tim Holtz stencils. For once, I already have all the supplies I need!

Mine are in a smaller 3 ring binder that holds plastic holders for up to 6 x 6..since I only have 4 stencils larger than this it works fine...I file mine by company/artist and have multiple stencils in each holder..

Like c-mouse, I use a small binder with inserts to hold stencils. Mine is from Taylored Expressions and is a really nice turquoise color. (yes, I have a thing about turquoise!). I have both sizes but don't have many of her smaller ones so that binder won't need refills very soon. I need to get more refills for the larger one (holds 6x6). I file by company right now.
I have tried a few different ways to do this. Initially I had them in a plastic container and liked the ease of flipping through spontaneously, especially when gel printing or mixed media. But that is problematic because they get hooked on each and can get damaged. Then I tried the binder method with the stencils in sleeves. It wasn't bad, but a little cumbersome for me. Currently, I have a vertical accordion file that is probably meant for cardstock. I can't remember the brand, but it is cloth with plastic accordion dividers and the 2 or 3 front dividers are short and accommodate the smaller stencils and can hold up to 12 x 12. Each stencil for the most part is in an appropriate sized plastic sleeve. This seems to work well, as I can flip through to find what I need. I don't have enough of any one size to have separate containers, such as if I had hundreds of 6 x 6, I would probably put them in a clear plastic container and divide by theme.
I use a three ring binder as well. I got it at Hobby Lobby where they also sell additional insert pages (pockets). You can fit 2 per pocket if you slide a piece of paper in between so they don't get caught on each other. If I didn't have them this way, I would probably go back to my old system of storing them like I do my stamp sets - in a fridge bin where I can just flip through them.
Mine are in plastic boxes...I separate them by theme. I cut up thin plastic food cutting boards as dividers. They live in their packaging until that falls apart and then I pop them in sleeves. I put in a piece of black cardstock for a bit of support and to see the pattern better. I flip through them. I like the binder idea but I have too many.

Mine are all different sizes. I mean I have some 12x12 ones, 8 1/2x11, then all of the smaller ones, too. I have them right now laying flat in the top plastic drawer of one of those rolling plastic drawer cabinet. They are very easy to get to. If I move them now, I will never find them! Some are in their original sleeves. But , Margo, I love your idea of the black cardstock! I am totally steeling that idea! Thank you!
Color me cheap... I use regular page protectors in a regular 3-ring binder and sew dividing lines to make different-sized pockets, if needed. I just use a craft knife to carefully cut a slit for the new pocket(s).

I use the plastic boxes that SU stamps come in. I don't keep my stamps in them, so that frees them up for stencils, dies and patterns. I keep them together by theme and then in photo pockets of the correct size. The boxes sit vertically in a straight sided basket so I can flip through them. The few that are bigger than the boxes are in the proper size sleeve which I slide along the side of the basket.
6x8 Three ring binders here from Taylored expressions here (except for Tim Holtz --- these are on book rings with heavy chipboard tags as covers - see to the right in the photo below. .
Not shown a matching 9x12 teal bionder from Scrapbook.cpom for my 8.5x11 stencils. Still no solution for he four 12x12 stencils and the one three-foot long Frank Lloyd wright border stencil I have! LOL

< cut up thin plastic food cutting boards as dividers>
I am trying to picture these, but draw a blanK! What are plastic food cutting boards?
Section dividers can also be cut from those plastic folders you get for school and office supplies. I have some that are folders with pockets inside, some regular file folder type, and some that are actually pouches. They are meant to be used in file drawers or inside binders. I buy them when school supplies are abundant in the summer.
Yep what Fiona said except I got mine 2/1.00 at an constant outdoor flea called the Green Dragon in Lancaster PA , and they are semi clear opaque, but I wish they were colored-would stand out more visually so I use a bright color label. I can't believe how much they are elsewhere. I like that they are very washable and durable so I can re-use them if I re-org. I used to get like 10 packs at a time cuz we only went once a year. But honestly-you could make them out of a colored CS and laminate it. I will probably go that way when I use up the last since I wont be able to go to PA anymore. :(
I am glad Sharon you got a tip! I find the 80# Michaels black cardstock very useful for this and not expensive. Some mfgs are hip to this and their packaging has a color backing so you can see the stencil and then we don't have to do anything
