My dear friend, Jean (a.k.a. naturecoastcrafter), encouraged me to share pics of my new art room. My husband and I waited six months for our house to be built and we finally ended up moving in two weeks before Christmas. I've been tackling unpacking and setting up house along with trying to design and organize my new craft room. After many months of hard work, money spent, and hours upon hours organizing, I've finally finished and am ready to get back to crafting (I've been having major withdrawls).
Before I give the grand tour, let's start with a BEFORE picture:
After giving it much thought I decided to go with the IKEA Expedit shelving units and got some of the door/drawer inserts...although the shipping was a little pricey, in the long run it was $$ well spent. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet.
The island is made of two smaller 4x4 IKEA Expedit units (with legs) and a solid door that I got at Lowe's. Width was perfect but my husband had to trim the length a little to get it where I wanted it - finished it's about 66" long by 31" wide.
The shelves give me a ton of storage but I needed to create an organized, uniform system - sometimes my OCD comes in handy. The red boxes are from AC Moore and hold things like flowers, MFT ink pads, lots of bling, embellishments, chipboard, etc. The tan photo boxes (on top) are from Michael's and have odds & ends that I don't use as frequently. All my 8.5x11 cardstock is in the plastic cropper hopper holders from SU! Sterlite totes along the bottom shelves hold a ton of other things from stamps to punches to ribbon (but mostly stamps). They're all labeled and each cubby holds two of the totes stacked on top of each other.
I have a long work desk that I used in my previous craft room which I use as my computer desk/cutting & sewing station. I've got it on the wall across from the shelving. I have a 32" TV mounted on the wall which I love because I can watch TV while I'm working but it also doubles as my computer monitor which I love even more because I can take the wireless keyboard/mouse to the island and work and still actually see the monitor.
And, finally, the closet - I'm lucky enough to have a huge closet with double doors - perfect for more storage! My husband hung floor to ceiling shelves and I organized it using lots of plastic containers and photo boxes - everything labeled, of course. You can't see the very top shelf in the pic but it holds all the Barbie Dolls which I've collected over the years (and now want to get rid of). I've got all the scrap paper in the drawers and scrapbook paper & supplies in the 12x12 containers. My next feat will be to go through the magazines, cut out the things I want to keep and condense. That'll free up half the bottom shelf. Punches are in a shoe organizer on the left door and so far I've just got some little jars of buttons on the right organizer.
Anyway, thanks for looking - I still need to get a new light fixture and a bar height chair. I also may change out the curtains, which were a Target clearance find, because they're too short. Maybe I can add a border or something to the top/bottom so they'll be a bit longer.
If there's any interest I will post pics of the drawers to show what's in them and how they're organized.
What a wonderfully organized craft room! I have a large room but a hodgepodge mix of storage; cupboards, old dressers, bookcases.
I have craft room envy now!

Please accept my apologies as I did not go through this entire thread to find some answers to my upcoming dilemma!
I am moving next week and want to have my new art studio better organized that it was in my current apartment. The key word here is "apartment." I am going to be renting a condo so I cannot install anything permanent. I have looked through the stamp room gallery here on SCS and have gotten an idea of the table I want.
Does anyone have any ideas for, or pictures of, or links to studios in rented spaces?
I rent my house too, and I have mostly Billy bookcases from IKEA for my storage. (These would be similar to the ones from Walmart mentioned earlier.) They come in a number of configurations, so are very useful. I also like the Expedite, but for me the Billy units work better, as they are narrower and my space is very narrow. I then have all kinds of boxes on them to store items. I used to use the rolling plastic carts but just got some of the Recollections/Jetmax cubes which hold up my tables. Everything is very portable and non-permanent. (and there are a couple of photos in my gallery that show a little older version of my space)

Thank you. I feel like there is HOPE for me after all. ♥

Oh I AM crying tears of relief and joy - there COULD BE hope for me after all (sobb sobbbb sobbbbb) This is so beautiful, I will share pics with my dh when he gets home tonight (Oh, yes, he'll just love seeing another project added to his scroll).
Jacqueline - lovely room. You are right sometimes you have to bite the bullet and invest in yourself. I've just spent the winter trying to figure out what to do with my space. Taking a time out is a good thing and will make the room work for YOU! You should have many hours of creativity in your space. Thank you for sharing!!!

Hey Kathy, the shelves are from Ikea and are called Besta Shelf Units. I used two of them, one atop the other. I had a hard time finding these by a search, so here's the item number: 801.340.53 ... they are $50 each.
Its almost like these shelves are made for Sizzix dies. They fit perfectly... and you can get more shelves if you like. I love them!
Jenn- I like your new space. Once you start working in it you'll get more organized for you! I always thought card making was just playing with paper but as the years have gone by I realize it's about organizing your stuff. Seems like every four years I need to reorganize. I started with three book shelves and three tables. Wish I could share my room but I need to learn how to put pictures on my I-pad. Eventually I will.

I just posted my first ever video on my blog and YouTube. It's fairly short, but I show my craft room storage. If you have any questions about what stuff is, LMK, and I'm sure I can find a link. I've attached a few still pics, but the video shows everything much more in depth.
Kimberly loved how pretty and peaceful your room is and thanks for sharing. I can see you have lots to work with and that you are organized - that's where the peace comes! I certainly have enjoyed all the creative people I have meet on SCS. I have a few pics of my room under my gallery. Like you maybe I'll do better with my picture taking in the future. I was just so excited to learn how to upload a picture!

I've been working in a dark wood paneled craft studio for a year, but we're finally wrapping up the remodel! We've only lived in the house for a year, and this room is a BIG transformation! It used to be the den/office for the former doctor who lived here. Now it is the craft studio/guest room!
You can see more on my blog, including the before and after photos!
I've been following this thread for years and am so excited to finally be able to share my craft room. My husband and I built our first home last summer and after almost a full year I feel like my craft room is complete! Thanks to all for the wonderful inspiration and ideas all these years! :-D

Jessica, your crafting room is absolutely gorgeous! I saw it and immediately thought Coastal Cabana and Crisp Cantaloupe - lol! So glad Lydia shared this on FB or I may have missed it! Envy anyone with a space this large.
