Doing some major major downsizing. Going from a full bedroom to two bookcases (with doors). I have a lot of stamp sets that I had already removed from the wood and was keeping them in SU cases. I now want to redo them using the Jennifer McGuire method. My question, which way do you all prefer your stamps, with the rubber on or down to the bare stamp, and why.
Thanks for your help.
When you say "rubber" are you referring to the foam that was between the wood and the bare stamp? If so, then the answer to your question is that I prefer bare nekkid rubber - no foam at all, cling or otherwise. I put 2-way glue on the backs and my storage method is similar to Jennifer's. All of my photopolymer are in the same storage system, too. I do have a few sets of cling-mount that I refuse to take the foam off of (Penny Black and Inkdinkaclings) because the adhesive is waaaay too aggressive for me to do so without a lot of swearing and hair-tearing-out...
Yes Sue, I did mean the foam on the stamp. I think that if I go without using the SU stamp cases that I will have a lot more room in the bookcases. Question, will the stamps that I take the foam off stamp just as nice/good as the clear stamps? That is what I'm really worried about, the way they stamp.
Thanks Sue, I appreciate your quick response.
I always prefered cling-foam backed stamps because I'm to lazy to worry about putting some padding under my paper to make sure I get a good image. But now that I'm using a MISTI I may go with bare rubber.
There isn't a single answer to that question, unfortunately. Some of them do fine on no padding at all, some need a bit of cushion. I just had a piece of fun foam that I used as my stamping surface until I got my Misti - it has the foam with it already. You can play around with some of the stamps and see how you feel about it...
I have gone bare! I picked the little drawer unit from wally world, cut cardstock to 5 1/2" by 7 1/2" (this size fits perfectly in those drawers!) and laminated it. Then I took my bare stamps, put a light coat of Tack It Over & Over and whalaa... compact storage!
Stamphappy and Sue,
Thank you both for your replies. Your opinions on the stamps having rubber or being totally bare has helped me. BUT you both mentioned the MISTY, which made me look into it, and even though I am totally downsizing I had to order the MISTY. Guess I'll have to get rid of something else.
Hawaiianbrat, I to am taking the plunge, and going bare. Thank you
ck1...you are most welcome lol...I am getting a lot of stamps on these cards and they all fit into the little drawer unit! I do not have a MISTI yet but I do have the "stampers secret weapon" from sizzix. MISTI is on my list!!!
GOING BARE IS SO LIBERATING!!! You will most likely never look back, lol! Welcome to "the dark side" - just kidding, it's light in EVERY sense of the word! Don't forget to index so you know what you have and where you put it... ;)
I didn't index but did put tags on the cards...plus, you can see each stamp when you pull the card out. I think it will work wonderful for me!!! Thanks y'all for giving me the nudge!
I'm another bare nekkid stamp girl. I keep a large pad of newsprint drawing paper on my desk. It works well as a cushion, gives me a draft pad to try layouts and I can stamp off ink prior to cleaning.
Carla - Thanks for the ideal to use a pad of paper as a cushion for stamping, its a great idea.
Hawaiianbrat - I'm intrigued about this "Stampers Secret Weapon" that you mentioned, what is it?
Sue, yes I am making an index. I'm making one to keep in a binder and one for the stamp set itself. I think that is how you said you do it, right.
Now, those of you that use Tack it over and over, does it ruin the acrylic blocks in any way?
Thanks
I have a binder with images of full sets in it (just in case), and index sheets in with the stamps themselves. Whatever stamps are on the storage panel are stamped on the index card in the same "sleeve".
The Tack It Over and Over works best if you thin it down with water and put only a light application on the rubber. If you let it dry thoroughly (I let mine go at least a few hours), then they won't leave residue on the carrier sheets or the blocks.
I just left a thread in the WRONG FORUM (tools) but probably could and should have asked my question here. I want to put an image on my stamps that I unmounted. They are on foam, and I am unsure of the best way to put the image on them. I am NOT talking about ones where I could peel off the image (like SU) but ones where I do not have an image. Can I stamp with Stazon on cling vinyl and glue that????????
