I asked for this from Santa. My mother called me yesterday and told me shipping for Alex is $100! So, I will be getting cash and going to pick it up myself! Can't wait!
Each drawers seemed to be pretty sturdy and not bowing at all. Attachment 181733
See this is the bottom drawer of my unit and it is full to the brim with MS old style edge punch and the drawer looks really fine. Drawers in this unit slides in really well. So I assumed that if it gets really heavy and you're having problems pushing it, that is an indication that its heavy. I am so pleased with this drawer unit.
How do I know what punches they are? Every time, I'm taking something out of its packaging, I'm labelling it using permanent pen with its name and SKU. I am doing that solely for the purpose of inventory.
Have a great sunday!
I cut the name/product # right out of the package and attach it w/ ATG tape. I like to know what I have, too. OCD? maybe! avoid duplicates -- hopefully! LOL!
You can definitely stack the Alex units. And, big fat Marvy punches fit in the bottom three drawers. Drawers are really pretty sturdy, too. I had a whole bunch of heavy punches in them, and they didn't bow at all. I have FIVE Alex units, and I'm going to get two more. They are the backbone of my studio.
OK everyone, this is so exciting for me -- somehow when I searched using Ikea, this thread didn't come up! I'm going to IKEA in Feb to shop for, I think, 3 Alex's, desk tops, corner desk, that corner storage thingie, the punch rails and hanging baskets.... I don't want to forget anything! This is wonderful!
I have 2 units in my craft room, a cupboard and and a drawer unit
I love that the drawers slide almost all the way out.

I love my Alex drawers. There are just perfect in my craftroom. I have just posted on my blog my ribbon makeover. I used foam board and cut it down to wrap the ribbons on and also to make dividers for drawer. A little time consuming task but oh so worth it. Have a look !
Anne, I went to your blog and asked what you used to roll the ribbon on; was it big enough for full/new spools of ribbon, or is it just for leftovers? What a gorgeous end result! Right now I'm looking at 3rd week in Feb for my trip to Ikea so I'm gathering all the info I can!

I used pieces of white foam board. They measured 59.5 cm x 42cm. I did not have a guillitine so I measured out and cut squares of 7cm x 7 cm. For the large full spools (ie papertrey ink) I used these squares and for smaller spools or lengths of ribbon I used a half of one of these squares. Most of my ribbon I am not too precious about and I did n't mind not recording the name and brand but for the papertrey ink ones I did. I cut a little groove on opposite ends for winding the ribbon on.
I still have one more drawer to do. So I'll take photos and post within the week.
I have my alex drawers about three years now and I love them. They are perfect despite much use. Mine are the wide ones. I am thinking about buying the thin ones for a birthday present for hubby. I am a big big fan of Ikea.
Ann, thanks so much for your summary! I'm getting to the point where I have to so something to free up my space!
Mary I posted on my blog today more photos of my alex drawer.
One other thing. The little glass jars are very reasonable and good for storing buttons etc.

Enjoy your trip to Ikea.
Thanks Anne, I went over and checked out your new photos -- thanks for posting and everything looks so awesome!
does anyone know the dimensions of the Alex unit that's shown as a desk?
I'm trying to figure out what the dimensions are for the Alex unit that's shown in the catalog with the desk top on top of two of them. They have the dimensions for the set-up as a desk, but not the individual Alex units. I am contemplating the new Martha crafting table with an Alex unit or two underneath. I have a Home Decorators near me so can get the exact dimensions under the table, and ideally would be able to stand there and ponder how it all might look armed with the dimensions of the Alex unit.
Also, has anyone painted Ikea foil furniture? I love the color of the green Martha craftroom items, it would look great in my space. However, if I did the green table, I would want to paint the Alex unit.
