I don't know about you all, but I really dislike spending more money on organization than I do my supplies themselves. Let me tell you about some of my great Goodwill/ thrift store finds!
Napa Valley 100 slot Cassette Tape organizer for stamp pads $2- What, what! I found this a year ago and have yet to find another. Hard to come by so if you see one, pick it up!!
Little wooden multi-slot rack. It's made for mail, maybe? Dunno. Paid $1 for it and it now houses my acrylic blocks.
Clear plastic paper rack that is wide enough to hold 12x12 papers at three levels. Also $1!
Caboodles!!! Great for doo dads and they come in such cute colors! I've bought 10 so far. I know, too many, but I'm sharing them with my DD and I'm even using one for my make up! Imagine that! - They range in price from $1.50 to $4, depending on who is pricing them, I think.
I picked up a great wooden bookshelf at the Habitat for Humanity store for $30 bucks, seen here that I took home, painted and use for storage. It's not in my craft room...yet!
I don't need anymore little storage crates, but I do see them at GW all the time, along with, racks, etc. I now scoff at the thought of paying retail for storage. I just keep an eye out for storage solutions at the thrift store. It's like a treasure hunt every time, too!
Thanks! I had just spent the same amount of money on book shelves at WalMart that I use inside my closet for shoes. It was such a pain to assemble and it's that cheap wood that is made out of sawdust.
I was thrilled to find the solid wood bookshelf that needed no assembly! Of course painting it was a pain, but I like it so much better painted white!
Your new shelves look great!
I found two of those Napa CD holders at my GW. I (very generously) gave one to a friend. I sure wish I had kept it... they are wonderful.
I'm glad you and I aren't in the same city because we'd be "elbowing" each other at the Thrift Stores! Ha! LOL I find tons of great stuff at these places. Always worth a look!
sadly my local stores have junk. really a lot of old junk. and they've had the same dusty junk for years
Well that stinks! I have been into stores that aren't worth the time so I know what you're talking about. My local goodwills are constantly updating inventory and they are well managed, clean, and somewhat organized.
I love to browse in goodwill. Basic Rule though.... 1 in, 2 out.
If you find something you "have to have" donate two items you don't use. It cuts down on the clutter.
Good reminder about thrift stores They can be such fun if they are organized, and you have the time.
My tip: I hate to throw away the plastic containers they sell salad mixes in at Costco or other grocery stores. They are very light weight but I use them for paper scraps ribbon etc. The stack real well and are aprox 12" by 7". I also use them to hold Nestabilities, and embossing envelopes upright so I can just flip through to find the one I want. Do you see lettuce packed like this? I live in California

OMG, what a good Idea, I am about to run out to my recycling bin right now....

DH bought one of these a while ago at our Goodwill, and I "stole" it for my craft room when I discovered that it would work for stamp pads. It works great!
Wow I left the house yesterday after posting and went to the Goodwill store
I bought a spinning spice rack tower (black and silver) that holds 16 clear jars for $4.99, and only takes up 6x6". Just love it!
Matches my used SU ink pad tower.
They had bookshelves cheap and lots of office stuff that are good for paper
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Goodwill, Salvation Army, and thrift stores! I like to buy the wooden CD standing racks. They work great for holding the old-style lever punches & they are great for storing the SU DVD-style cases, too. I also find tons of really inexpensive craft supplies, too. It is just like a great big treasure hunt! Honestly, I could afford to buy new, but it is so much more fun to find something at a discount price or to find something that can be "re-purposed."
A great thing about some shelves and racks you find at GW is that they are pre-assembled! I almost bought a rack/shelf thingie at ACMoore the other day because it was on sale, but then I remembered that I'd have to put it together and I hate assembling those things. Especially since they're made out of chip board and I'm bad about the screw going in sideways and poking through. urgh.
Funny though that I don't mind painting the wooden racks from GW. I won't paint a room, but I'll paint a shelf! funny. Oh and since most of these older racks and shelves are solid wood, they hold up better too. I always give them the knock and wobble test before splurging and spending my $2 on them. lol
this time of year you can get nice furniture cheap at yard sales, go early cuz furnature get's snagged up fast! I just got a wonderful huge sturdy wood bookshelf for $10. Also you can always fine the DVD shelfs for less than $5 fo all of your stamps in cd/dvd cases.
