Default Failed attempts at hand making storage solutions Anyone else?

Hi!
So I have never really been able to find the perfect Storage for my alcohol markers I have a variety of brands. I saw how some people tried to make them from foam board and thought that seemed simple enough but I was wrong! I just couldn't seem to get it to work. I then went and got some wood to make it instead it's a little better than the foam board but not perfect but it'll do for now and it's been an expensive frustrating experience! Anyone else have similar experiences when trying to make storage solutions?

well, that is the thing I have divided up, almost all my water based markers are on the table in these plastic cubes that have been divided and my alcohol inks are inside a bag made by Copic for that purpose. and they stand up right but, it gives it a portability factor incase I want to take it out of the room.

so the what is on the table looks like this. Amazon.com : Deflecto Stackable Cube Organizer Cross Dividers, Desk and Craft Organizer, Clear, Removable Dividers, 6"W x 6"H x 6"D (350201) : Literature Organizers : Office Products

and the bag looks like this. (and I cannot find a link for it, I have had it a few years so its possible they dont make it anymore) but, I did find this "copic maker Wallet

I'm using Totally Tiffany's Denise bag, and there's also the Pen & Ink Palace. I like not having a specific slot per marker, since if I toss or buy more markers every marker has to be moved to keep them in order. I also don't have billions of Copics.

I decided that with the time it takes to make something, plus the materials...versus the cost of buying an item for storage...it's not entirely worth it to make many of the storage things. I think my time is worth more than a dollar or two an hour. (or less!)

Now that might not apply if I have to have something that has to exactly fit a given space.

I am definitely wishing I now did more research into the already purposely built supplies thanks for your suggestions ladies.

You are absolutely right Diane in the end handmade can absolutely add up cost wise, and the time also spent on making something that may not even turn out as in my case, I could have been using the actual supplies I want to store for what I am actually good at. I think I definitely have regrets with my decision on handmade but I suppose we live and learn!

I just think it’s neat - admirable - that you tried. And if it interested you enough to keep at it, you’d surely get it. But it’s not your cuppa, so that’s good info for the future.

Eliminating what isn’t a good fit is just as much part of figuring out how to spend our time and energy as when we have a positive experience. At least that’s my take for everyone but me.

I wonder if the new Stampin' Up storage would work for other brands of alcohol markers? It's modular, so easy to rearrange. I tied a big ribbon around my stack to make it portable. Previously I had made a storage unit by stacking and adhering acetate card holder boxes. That is a low cost option.

I tried a foam board marker holder and it was ok but not a quality product. I saved up until I could purchased one of the marker holders from stamp-in-storage. I have never looked back and have been adding at least one of their products every year or two. I continually save, but it helps me eliminate frustration and lost time from searching for supplies.
