Here is the link to the DIY 12 x 12 paper storage wire cubes that I mentioned on another thread. I didn't buy the Rubbermaid cubes, I bought the ones that look just like it at Target. There is a set of 6 in the box for $14.99. I will use 3 or 4 cubes and use the other 2 or 3 for the shelves.
Ooh! Thanks for posting that! I've been looking for a rack paper storage system because I get tired of flipping thru folders or digging thru drawers, but the "official" wire racks are so expensive. I can do this. :-)
I used the same item but didn't have cable ties available so I simply used twist ties. My unit is black and I colored the twist-ems black to match. They've held together for years.
My wonderful husband worked all weekend helping me put together a craft room (seconds as a guest room). He painted the walls, I painted an old dresser (gift froma dear friend), we moved furniture, & last night we put together the wire cubes. I actually assembled the 3 cubes on top of one another and he helped me with cable tying the shelves in. It was realitively easy, but the shelves are a two person job.
I will post a picture of it and my new craft room as soon as I get it all finished. I have a lot to organize!
I have these cubes and I really don't like them. You still have to flip through them to find what you need. I tried sorting by color except my SU paper and I find I have to take all the paper off the shelf to look thorugh it. Mine are now sitting empty while I decide what to do with them.
dderbini I use my wire cube for chipboard, 12 x 12 specialty sheets like alphas and tags in CS, card blanks (2 across), 12" long sticker packets, etc.
Try taking out some of the shelves so it can just make your storage space more flexible.
It is in a cupboard and has become a catch all for things that needs 12" storage but don't work in my hanging files. The top half is holding boxes of printer ink, rolls of masking tape, spare DST etc.
Only cost me $9 so I'm not concerned that it wasn't for me.

Has anyone tried storing their paper vertically in those cubes. I have mine horizontal but it's not working well for me. My girl friend plans to set up her cubes next week. At my suggestion she is going to try setting up her 'shelves' vertically as dividers. We both sort our paper in large storage zip type bags. The plan is to put a sheet of chipboard aka cereal box in the bottom of each cube before inserting the dividers so the bags will slip in and out easily. I think it will be easier to find the paper needed and slip it out instead of having to pull everything off a shelve to find what�s needed. If it works for her I will switch mine. Just wondering if anyone has already tried this and will share the pros and cons of this idea.

I considered it but decided the papers would sag and bend. Then I considerd using it for hanging folders by drilling some holes for cable ties in MDF to make the front and back the right length for the 12 x 12 custom crop hangers.
I was too lazy and never got to it.
I eventually bought some RTA kitchen drawers instead and when I assembled them I joined the two bottom drawers together to make one 12 1/2"deep drawer that I could use with hanging files.
Work that one out - Too lazy to drill a couple of holes, but I can assemble and modify a box of drawers!:confused:

Hey KoffeeKat, Ha Ha the reason I need to pull everything off the shelves is because I have it packed so tight. There will be no room for sagging or bending if they are vertical.

I used to have mine in them vertically. I used the cropper hopper vertical storage boxes and kept them in the wire cubes that way. I am now using a different cube system for my paper, but I still have a set of cubes that have photo boxes in them to organize all the little bits and pieces.
