i found an old large wooden drawer tray (like for sorting silverware) at a thriftshop. and i use it to store my daubers and sponges. i keep it out on top of a stack of drawers, so it gets fresh air, not sitting in a stuffy drawer that may cause mold!
it makes it quick to grab one too...........

I have the mini Sterilite drawers that sit on top of my desk for my daubers. You can get them at Walmart or Target... places like that, pretty cheap. They fit perfectly in there, and if you wanted to, you could have a drawer for each color family.
Does anyone know where to get the daubers at a decent price?
Su wants 10.95 for 12. I would like to get a bigger quantity too....I store mine in a small clamshell case and i put a label on each one when I ink it up.
I use one of those plastic boxes designed for embroidery floss. The little sections work great for keeping daubers and scraps with the same color organized. They are also VERY cheap - like $2.00.
I have a friend that gave me this idea for make your own daubers. Get those feet for the bottom of TV trays (i'm 50 what can I say) and then get the $1 store sponges and cut them into squares then fold them to give a round top and push them into the plastic holders. These can be made in a few different sizes (1/2 inch up to 1 1/4) I then labelled them. Easy to use, bigger grip, and cheaper to replace the sponge. They are totally great for distress inks too, especially if you cannot brayer at all.

That's what I was thinking...I even thought of using some sort of plastic piping. Will try and see if this works. Thanks.

i can't picture this. any chance of a photo or link? thanks
I found a plastic paint bottle holder for those small bottles. They fit perfect..I think it holds 50 bottles or something...so I have tons of room to grow....
I haven't posted a link to my gallery before but this is a picture of my daubers, I took the sponge out of one to show it is a square of foam folded to a round and shoved into the plastic holder.
After reading Lorri's post I got to thinking, so I cut a 1" piece of plastic water pvc line , cut a square piece of foam, folded and stuck into the pipe. It works just like a sponge douber except you cannot put your finger into the end. If you have trouble holding onto small items, then just cut your pvc pipe a little longer. You could even use a larger pvc line if you wanted to. It would just take a larger piece of sponge. I have used pieces of sponge with color coded paper tabs stapled onto the end but never thought about making my own until I read about it here. Thanks everyone for all the great tips.
My blog post today was actually how I store my sponges, re-inkers and daubers....you can see the post by visiting my blog (see link in my siggy)! Just in case you don't want to visit....here's pics of it.
