I know there is a thread for cutting up scrap/stamp/craft magazines but wanted to start a thread on what everyone does with all the old SU catalogs and countless minis, their old CTMH catalogs, CM catalogs etc? I was going to post in the magazine thread but thought maybe it would highjack or get lost.
I have tons of these and always cringed when I thought about ripping things out of them. Than I wondered about the doubled sided likes and did I want to go through all the trouble of copying the other side. LOL But I have tons as well as magaziens and its time to start decluttering and getting rid of them as I really never *gasp* go back to them to look through.
I also have many catalogs that are "doubles," can you sell those on the Buy/sell thread? Do they sell?
Hi,
I haven't sold any of the old catalog/idea books, but I've bought many used. I've paid between $1-$3, depending on how old the book was. And, I've bought them at garage sales and on ebay. So, yes, you'd be able to sell them.
I have had soooo many cattys and magazines. When I run out of room, I
tend to go through old ones and see what I like from them. I cut out the ideas I want to keep and insert them in clear page protectors and put in a notebook binder. The one-sided or small clippings can be adhered to a sheet of paper, using both sides that way. And two-sided keepers simply go in the page protector itself, so you can see both sides. I've reduced literally at least 50-75 books down to one notebook this way.

Reason: sorry, this reply came thru 2x
My LSS had a customer garage sale 3X year and people were always selling old magazines and catalogs. The magazines went anywhere from 25 cents to $2 (Paper Trends usually) and the Catalogs were usually about 25 cents to $1.
Usually the current mags and catties were the ones that people bought or the specialty issue magazines.
I cut come of mine up for "catalog" of stamps that I have. The other I give away to new people joining my stamp groups, or if we hold a crop they are used for door prizes. My magazines, I cut up as soon as I get them. I cut out the things I like and want to remember, the rest is given away to a friend for them to cut up etc. (we all like different things) I have tons of spiral binders with card ideas, scrapbook pages, 3 d items etc. it makes it easier than searching through tons of stuff to find the 1 idea i was looking for
I've sold my old catalogs on a garage sale for .25 to .50 each. They've sold out everytime. I priced them so they would go, I was tired of storing them.
Once I started clipping, I was absolutely amazed to discover that I had tons of magazines that didn't even have one thing in them that I really wanted to keep! And they were taking up valuable storage space. I clipped, tossed, and never looked back!
I clip the magazines each month and keep the ideas in plastic sheets in binders by categories: floral, birthday, holidays, etc. Makes it easy to get creative.
Dare I suggest cutting them up for background/DP paper? They would be colorful and unique! Could be punched into flowers, etc. Distressed for vintage looks.
How about scanning your favorite ideas, pictures, etc. to your computer and organizing them into files such as seasons, birthdays, kids, etc. You could then donate the mags and cattys to schools, churches or senior centers. Or recycle them any way you want. I am going to try the flower punch idea. Sounds like fun!
