I currently use a 24 x 48 folding table as my craft table, store my other stuff randomly stacked in plastic bins. my craft area is in the corner of my bedroom, so space is limited. I need something more that has storage, shelves, etc. I have looked at the Michaels Recollection brand cabinets with a panel to create a desk. Does anyone have these? worth the price? I have seen a few ideas on pinterest that use filing cabinets with a flat door for the desktop. My kids want to get me something for Mother's Day, with a budget around $100-150. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
No specific recommendations but if you create a desk using the Recollections cubes/panel it will be significantly less flat surface area than your current 24x48 folding table. I have many cubes but don't have it set-up as a desk. They serve a purpose but often they are either too deep or otherwise provide less-than-optimal storage. Still, the price (with a coupon or sale), makes it worthwhile. Steer clear of the filing cabinet cube ... I can't remember hearing anything good about that configuration.
Perhaps an inexpensive, yet sturdy, dining room table? Walmart and IKEA are probably good sources for new tables. Craigslist and garage sales if used is acceptable.
I tried the Recollections desk top option and like TeeGeeDee said, it's too small. Now I use a recycled counter top that I screwed legs onto it and it's wonderful. Very sturdy and lots of room. If you can't find a used counter top you could get one at Home Depot (etc.) and put legs on it. My table is high enough that my Recollections cubes can slide underneath and it would be in your price range.
I use an old hollow-core door for a desktop and three filing cabinets with risers to bring it up to height. The hole where the knob went is at the back to thread power cords through. My file cabinets have two small drawers and an actual file drawer each. That really gives me LOTS of storage. I got the file cabinets AND door on Craigslist. Good luck!
I have an Ikea desk that has a small hutch and a 2x6 ft table to create a L configuration. I love the L as it lets me stamp, color at the desk and use the table for cutting and to keep my papercutter, Cuttlebug, heat gun handy. I've got a small bookcase and plastic drawers under the table for other items. If I were to do it over, I'd use a door for the table instead. My stamps are unmounted, stored in notebooks in a bookcase along with paper supply.
I also have a door that was converted to a standing-height table and I love it. Not only for paper crafts, but it's great for cutting out patterns for sewing as well. Given that your space is limited, it might not be feasible.

If I had to repurchase furniture - I would get the white drawer sets from ikea that everyone has. They have so many drawers. I was using my craft area for sewing more so I bought an old wooden dresser and painted it. And I use that for laying a thick layer and ironing. Or for cutting paper. The bad thing is that the drawers don't pull out fully. And no where to sit.
Seriously, it was the perfect solution for me (I have limited space also)... and if you google "ezview desk"... I saw some that look similar for half the price.

There's another thread here, and a fellow stamper shows the evolution of her craft space since 2009. For a few years she used a computer armoire she got on Craigslist for $75. It had a pull out desk and so much space, nooks and crannies! I never realized these existed. It closes up and is neat and tidy! Just an idea.
I know if I was limited on space I'd be looking for one of these. Or I would find a used table or desk. I'm a repurposer! I love to save money on storage so I have more for stamps and supplies!

I have 2 of the Alex drawer sets from IKEA, plus a Linmon table top - love this set up.

I'm going to Ikea this weekend. I have a couple of ideas. I'm really fortunate that I have more space in my new room. I'm looking forward to really getting it organized. I have more space but by no means unlimited. lol I will say that they are reasonably priced.
I have the same setup as uncbballfan, and love it. Would not swap to anything else. The Alex drawers are a good size, pull out far enough so you can access stuff right at the back, and the sides/back are as deep as the front- some makes of drawers have a really deep front, then very shallow back and sides. The top two drawers are 4" deep, the bottom three are 6".
I have mainly Ikea stuff in my room- Expedit cubes and Limon tabletops.
Certainly look interesting, want to get this desk thing right first time. Are the Alex drawers and the table legs the same height, or is there sawing involved?
The basic legs are the same height, so no sawing. You can also buy adjustable legs for their table tops, which I did for a deskspace along one wall, so I could put some plastic bins I already had underneath. They were taller than the normal legs allow for.
This was how I had it originally, then I added another Alex drawer set at this end, to give me more storage space.
This is the tabletop with adjustable legs- I was still moving stuff back into my craft room here!
I know it's an old thread but if anyone else comes across it...
I, too, only have a corner of my bedroom. (well, sort of... I keep branching out to put stuff in any available space. ROFL) If you can get your hands on one, get a big ol' office desk. I have one and it's about 3 x 4 ft. I've stacked drawers, shelves, wall cabinets on it... LOL It has evolved over several years as I picked up a piece of something here or there. (Thrift store, yard sale...) I don't have any good recent pics. I need to get it all cleaned up and take new pics.
