Help! I've decided that I need to get serious about increasing my card stash, so I have committed to making at least one new card a day. My question is this.....how do you store your completed cards? I've tried standing them in various boxes or baskets but it just doesn't work for me...maybe I haven't found the right basket. Any suggestions? Also, if you sell cards how do you display them so they are easy for a potential customer to browse?
Depending on the size of your cards, photo boxes or cd/dvd storage boxes could work (I use Really Useful CD/DVD boxes for storing my prescored cards before I use them). The benefit of photoboxes is often they come with dividers.
I trimmed old manila folders to make theme dividers (labelled with label maker), file cards (each in clear sleeve) behind the dividers in one of the large Iris cart drawers. When there were few cards, I kept empty boxes, blank envelopes, or whatever was handy behind the file to fill in the empty space. (Haven't had any empty space in a long time....)
I like the challenge you have set up for yourself. I would like to join you!
For sales I found pretty embossed rectangle tins at Target - but i think they were only out in the spring. You might find something similar at a garden store. The cards stand up nicely in them and since they only come up about 3" high and you can see the majority of card out the top. The sides are slanted so the cards are easy to flip through. You might be able to find cute terracotta planters. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the suggestions, Ladies! I will spend part of my day today getting organized. Since challenging myself to make a card a day I have already made 5 cards and have stamped and colored for about 8 more. Happy stamping everyone!
I got some shoe boxes from nephews - size 13 shoes! Haha. Anyway, the boxes are big but not enormous, and deep - I made cardboard dividers and I labeled: birthday/adult, birthday/child or teen, sympathy, thank you, wedding/love/anniv, thinking of you, get well, etc. ETA that you could alter the box pretty easily.
No one buys my cards. LOL It's just my system for me.
I use the SU! keeper boxes. They come with dividers and you can label them any way you want! B-day, holidays, thinking of you, get well, sympathy, etc.
I use one of the Jet Max cubes that has 4 cube drawers. Cards fit perfectly and I made dividers for various categories. it works well for me and protects my cards from dust and sunlight.
Martha stewart has a great cd box that holds the cards for yourself perfectly.
I have the drawers by cropper hopper (kind of pricey though) i used coupons on each one and have 9 each drawer has 3 spaces in them and a handle on the ouside and a place for a tag. I really like them for selling option (at my home) when I take them to craft fairs, I have a card spinner like in the stores that I got on craigslist . it was a 4 tower spinner for $20 that I broke down and made a double floor standing one and 2 table top spinners. well worth the money, but tough to store.

I store my cards in a shoe box covered with leftover wallpaper. I also use sheet protectors and put it in a binder. Good luck Krissy. If you find any other way,let me know!

My DH brought me 2 medium size plastic boxes with snap down lids and a handle attached to the top- at Joann's 2 Christmas's ago. They were only 4.99each. I made dividers labeled for different holidays and occasions and then in the very back I place ones that could be used for a variety of occassions I just need to stamp a sediment on it to complete the card. About 100 cards fit in each box. I can snap the lid on the one that I only use to store A2 cards or smaller (which is rare) and the other 1 I place all other cards in it and I just can't put the lid on it. I store these in my Stamp Am ore so they never get dusty and they are always out of the Sunlight. These work very well for me at this point, even though I plan on buying 2 more as my stash should be alot bigger this year since my lil one is getting a tad order.

My mom gave me a wire under the bed basket from the Container Store. It stores my cards perfectly. I have them divided by sentiment and store them in my stamping room, but they could easily go under the bed also...

I store mine in large shoeboxes--they fit great standing sideways. I display them in card racks at craft shows. I found one that a scrapbook store was selling and another at a garage sale for a great price. Good luck.
I store mine in an altered stationary box, like the kind you buy invitations in from Staples. They fit perfect sideways and I cut cardstock for dividers. It works great!
I use a Cropper Hopper photo storage box. I bought it at Michaels. They run about $30 before the coupon. It is quite large and holds the standard sized cards perfectly. It is made from heavy plastic and has movable dividers to catagorize. It has a handle like a suitcase. It works great for me.
I bought one of these: http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/p...0Card%20Center
It is much bigger than I thought it would be, so currently, it is sitting on the floor, unused. But I hope to get organized for the new year, and find a place for it.

Gorgeous but I make my cards larger than the dividers (5.5 x 8.5) so I'm presuming this wouldn't work for me.

Hi,
I just wanted to point out that the very back space is approximately 12 inches long and 7 inches tall. It is about 2 inches wide, so you couldn't put a lot of cards there, but I wasn't sure if you make all of your cards larger, or just a few.

I store my completed cards (in plastic sleeves I purchased from Clearbags) in empty envie boxes. They fit perfectly! I also made dividers as others have mentioned so I can locate the correct card quickly for whatever occasion.
When I sell at craft fairs, I use baskets I found at the Dollar Tree. One for each of the categories I've brought cards for. I typed the label (i.e., "Birthday" or "Thank You") and punched it out with the giga oval scalloped punch and adhere to the basket so my customers can find the card categories easily.
I also purchased a cheapo Christmas card holder to display cards, but it was too cumbersome and just when you got all the cards loaded into the slots, one would fall out, then another and pretty soon it looked like an avalanche of fallen cards! Tossed that darn thing after two craft fairs and went back to the basket method! ;)
Let us know what you settle on....

I'm another one that uses photo boxes. I wait for them to go on sale. They also come with cards for dividers so it works great. I sit mine on my bookshelf. What also works well is the plastic shoe totes you can get at Walmart or just about anywhere if you want see through storage.
Those little DVD boxes from IKEA are great for holding cards. I got some of the plain white ones and covered them with some scrapbooking paper to make them more appealing.
Oh, and I'll alternate the way the cards lay in the box to keep different occasions separated. For example, birthday cards go straight up (portrait) in the box and then behind that is Mother's Day cards which are sitting on the side (landscape). KWIM?
I use the Card Keepers from Stampin' Up. I actually have 2; one I use for cards sorted by occasion (I use a label printer to make labels for the dividers; birthday-female, birthday-male, birthday-kids, thank you, sympathy, friend, blank, etc) and the other one I use to sort by month for people on my birthday list (the dividers are labeled Jan, Feb, March, etc). When I make a card for my stash, I just put it in the box. When I make one for a particular recipient, I place it under the correct month in the other box.
I store my cards in 6x6 page protectors, usually 2 to a protector. I keep the protectors held together with binder rings. I've been meaning to make cute covers for them, but just haven't had the chance. I stand them up on my bookshelf like books. HTH.

That is such a great idea to label the other box by months for people on your birthday list. Thanks for sharing that tip!

My gallery - yup I finally got pics posted!
I purchased a big old cookie tin from Goodwill for like 50 cents, painted and covered it with pretty paper. I'm all about recycle and reuse it when I can! I also put a cabinet knob through the lid for easier lid removal. Inside I have made dividers for categories (birthday, anniversary, etc.).
I also made a perpetual calendar that I keep in the front of the tin. I used the same shape that I used as dividers for categories, made one for each month with days 1-15 on the front and 16-30/31 on the back. (You could probably do all days on the front, but I wanted to allow plenty of room for writing.) I write in everybody's birthdays, anniversaries, etc. on the correct month and date. Each month I check the calendar and pull from my card stash and when the month is over, I put it in the back of the calendar section and move on to the next month. It's also helpful so you can look to the months ahead to see if you are going to need more birthday cards or more anniversary cards. And of course, as I make along, I also make the sympathy, get well, thank you, and blank cards (so I can write whatever message I want). I usually try to make one of those for every few birthday or anniv cards I make. I also have a section for Holidays, so I can make ahead for Christmas, Valentines, Thanksgiving, etc.
My tin is pretty big, but I use cards as I go so it hasn't got too full yet. If it ever does, I'll be looking at Goodwill for another one!

I think that is an excellent idea with the perpetual calendar - I think everyone in my family shares their birthday with at least one other person in the family, and that doesn't even include anniversaries and people that marry in etc!
I store mine in plastic page protectors, 4 cards fit in each side, then in a 3 ring binder according to birthday's, holidays, etc. (I get the page protectors from century Photo)
I couldn't help it. I purchased a spinning card rack. It is in the upstairs landing/hallway and whenever anyone in the family needs a card, that is where they go. I made catagories on cardstock and stapled them to each rack spot.
I love it.

Hi, Anne. Wonderful idea! I've been wanting a spinning card rack forever. Did you get this new, or buy it from a store that's closing, or some other source? I'd like to investigate this myself. It would also be great for my craft fairs.
Thanks!

I purchased it online. I googled, and then compared prices. Mine has 24 spots to put cards, and fits up to 10 in each spot. I just love it, lol, I bought just cuz it made me happy.
There are an amazing number of places you can find them online- make sure to take into account shipping. Mine was about sixty dollars a few years ago. Brand new.
Just today I was at a Walmart that had some new storage items. There were some really neat looking storage containers that snap together and are in some bright colors (blue, pink, green, and I believe an orange). They had a little handle on them with a metal spiral thing going down the handle. I believe they cost approximately $7.00 each drawer. I thought they would make great card files.
I have mine in a really big decorative wire basket as well. I like to 'see' them so I can remember to grab one and pop in the mail. No sense just collecting them, right? LOL

I store mine in a CD box with a lid. I custom-made dividers for each month. For each month's dividers, I printed the days of the month and included the birthdays, anniversaries, and other occasions for which I would send a card. I printed the dividers on cardstock and trimmed them to fit the box.
I also made a set of dividers for my sister and gave her a similar box for her cards.
