Has anyone else had a problem with Sizzix embossing folders cutting through their paper using a cuttlebug? Anyone have a solution?
And thank you for the sandwich recipes. They are o so helpful.
I don't believe the issue is the cuttlebug, but rather the Sizzix folders are a little deeper than others. It's recommended that you simply add an extra piece of paper or card stock inside the folder, which should eliminate the tearing.
ok, new stack question! I got some of the Tim Holtz embossing diffusers and I can not figure out the right stack. I was using a Spellbinders embossibilities folder. I tried A, folder, diffuser, B. too thick. This sandwich does work with a cuttlebug or sizzix folder.

From Spellbinder's site: 1. Cuttlebug A Plate2. Spellbinders M-Bossabilities Folder with media inside3. 3 pieces of 65# cardstock as a shim4. Cuttlebug C PlateFeed through the Cuttlebug machine
I would think the Diffusers won't work well with them because they are B plate thickness.

Are the Spellbinders embossing folders thicker than sizzix and cuttlebug? If that is true, I would think that instead of a B plate, you could substitute chipboard (cereal box, etc.) and/or card stock, and put in as many layers as you need until you have the right sandwich.
Another possibility would be: plate C, folder, diffuser, plate B (+ any extra shims necessary).
I did find a recipe that worked on my bug. This is for the Spellbinders mbossibilities folder. ( it is thicker than cuttlebug or sizzix ones)
C plate, a piece of plumbers red gasket from the hardware store the folder , the diffuser, 2 spellbinders tan rubber mats, a piece of chipboard about the thickness of 2 layers of cereal box and then another C plate. Hope this makes sense if anyone else needs it.

I love using my Cuttlebug and have just purchased Spellbinders Nestabilities - A2 Polka Dots & Lattice Rectangles. I am having difficulties getting a clean die cut - My plate layers are A plate, C plate, die, c/s & a B plate? It seems to die cut 3 sides but not the 4th cleanly. Any suggestions?

Sometimes it helps to run the die through several times, or turn a quarter turn & run through again. I know that my cuttlebug has one side that is tighter than the other.
If it still isn't cutting in one area, try adding a card stock shim to only that area.
I agree with Melody. I was having the same problem, until I turned it 1 complet turn and ran it thru again. Good luck.

Thank you Melody & Janet - I will try this out this afternoon and, fingers crossed, it works. I have also been reading that wax paper could help so I will try this too!!

I don't think the wax paper helps getting a good cut, but it definitely makes it easier to remove the small detailed pieces of card stock from the dies.
Thank you for this chart! I AM having a problem though; Can ANYONE HELP ME? I have the SU Large Paper Doily die & using my Cuttlebug. It DOESN'T CUT! Just the outer edge & I get impressions...This is on cardstock--copy paper. I added a shim & it curled the shim, but STILL didn't cut the doily! :/ Am I doing something wrong? I followed the chart! :? Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!
I finally got this die to cut yesterday. I used the metal shim adapter plate from Cheery Lynn between the A plate and the lower cutting mat, and it worked just fine. I am still getting over the surprise, as like several of you, I had more or less resigned myself to never getting a decent cut from my SU large doily die.
The shim did the job both in the Cuttlebug and in the Big Shot. You might need to run it through the Cuttlebug twice, but it does cut cleanly now.

I saw the post but I was not able to open it ... PLUS I thought it could have been updated wit ALL THE new companies now joining in this area.

I am not sure if it has all the latest or not but I was under the impression that it is kept up to date.
I would think you would be able to open the file from the thread it is a pdf you would only need Adobe reader which is available online free if not give this a try I copied and saved it to a word file.

I was just wondering if anyone knows how to use a die as a stencil, or a stencil as something to add texture........Dina Kowal did it last month, and I can't figure out the right formula. Any suggestions??
I put crafting on hold for 10 years, and decided I wanted to have a go at it again. Dug out my BigShot and my Cuttlebug, and was devastated to read all over the internet that the Cuttlebug had been discontinued years ago. I love that critter and used it so much more often than the more cumbersome BigShot, and still have several backup, unopened cutting plates.. Finding the recipes still here after all these years just made me really, really grateful. Thanks for keeping these archives!
