Western New York SCS Gathering April 26, 2008 10am-5pm Ransomville Fire Hall 2521 Youngstown-Lockport Road (rt 93) Ransomville, NY 14131
Hosted by Tracy Harp (LodiChick) and Holly McMillen (Toy)
Cost $20 Lunch and snacks are included!
[CENTER]Registration and payment deadline is March 28, 2008 Registration form is attached below and includes instructions for payment.
Please note there has been a change in location!!! We will be up the road from the church at the Ransomville Fire Hall. The address is 2521 Youngstown-Lockport Road.
Coming from the south, go north on Ransomville Road off of Rt 104. Follow this road until you get into Ransomville, at the light take a left. The fire hall is on your right just a little ways. Parking and door to the hall are in the back of the building.
Coming from the east you are probably coming via Rt 93 already. When you enter Ransomville, go through the light and just a small ways past the light the fire hall will be on your right.
There is only one light in Ransomville so if you make it there you are just steps away!!
Here are the essentials...in other words, mandatory Shoebox Swap
Bring your project and all the supplies needed for making it in some sort of box (hence the term shoebox). The shoebox projects will be done in small groups with your tablemates. We will have 5 tables of 10 people per group. Some people type up directions to go along with their project, but that is up to you. The shoebox projects will be the first thing we do that day. We will work our way around the table until everyone has completed one of each project.
You will also need to bring FIVE completed shoebox projects :
1 completed project for your tablemates to follow as a sample
2 completed projects to be used as door prizes
2 completed projects to be used as thank yous

Gift Swap, optional
Everyone that brings a wrapped gift will be included in the swap. While there are no restrictions on WHAT you bring, since this IS a stamping event...it would be great to have it be something handmade with stamps or something related to stamping. And it should be something approximately $5 in value. We will draw numbers to determine who picks first and then things will progess in "Yankee Trader" style where the next person is allowed to steal from someone or pick from the table, etc. Be sure to include your name somewhere inside, so the lucky winner knows who to thank.
I encourage you to plan on this swap as it is usually one of the best parts of the day. It is so fun to see the creativity of people and especially fun to get one of the gift items. You may be sad come swap time if you aren't in on this one, just a friendly warning
I drove by and the posted rates were around $45/night but I think it is more of a motel with doors to the rooms from outside.
Ransomville is close to several areas but there are no hotels in town. We are giving you hotel information for places in Amherst because of 3 reasons:
1) it is easily accessible from major roads/thruway
2) is populated with all kinds of shops and restaurants (AC Moore, Joanns Ect and Michaels are a stones throw away)
3) it is close to the stamp store, Buffalo Stamps and Stuff.
I will provide directions for getting to Ransomville from Amherst (about 20 min)
If you prefer to overnight in style, there are several great B&B's about 10 minutes away in Lewiston or Youngstown. Niagara Falls is also an option if you plan on making a weekend of it, that is only 15 minutes away. If you are really daring, I have plenty of lawn space for tents!
This area of NY is full of great stuff. Old Fort Niagara is 10 minutes away, we are 3 miles from the shores of Lake Ontario, 10 minutes from the beautiful Niagara River, 15 minutes from the Falls. There is a decent sized outlet mall in Niagara Falls.
Holly's DH has offered to plan a guys option in case anyone is planning to bring their DH or boyfriend, what ever the case may be!
Food!
Although Ransomville is a short drive to civilization, it has very little to offer food or shopping wise. DH in his pre-pastor days, worked in food service and has offered to cater our lunch! He is so excited to do this for all of you. I do not yet know what is on the menu but be assured it will be good and there will be plenty of it. On your registration form you will find a place to note any food allergies or issues you may have. We will also have some snack foods and drinks available.
In my mind, chocolate and stamping go together like PB&J, so if you want to bring some for your table I will not be stopping you, lol. Actually, that means I will probably be hovering over your table!
We wanted to provide lunch so it is one less thing you are needing to worry about but if you love to cook/bake, again, I am not stopping you!
Door prizes
Everyone is getting something, 'nuff said!
Name tags
Are soooo helpful!! Please wear a nametag with your name and SCS name on it so we can make the connection and really "know" you! If you choose to make one you may win a prize, hint hint!
Garage Sale
If you would like to sell or trade items (stamps or stamping related) feel free. Please remember SU's policy though...current items can only be traded, retired items can be sold. Please clearly label all your stuff.
There's more... Demonstration
Holly and I were both surprised by the poll results! A product or technique demo was the most voted for option. We are working on some ideas.
Buffalo Stamps and Stuff
This is an awesome stamp store that we hope to add to our schedule. It would be at the end of the day and totally optional. I have spoken to the owner and she is willing to stay open from 5-6 pm just for us! I know you would not be disappointed!
Dinner
Holly and I are open to dinner out after the stamp store. There is a wide selection of restaurants available to choose from. We would however want to make reservations since Saturdays are busy. Everyone would be responsible for their own meal. This would be a great way to unwind after our day of stamping.
Hi all! Subscribing to this thread to keep up on information! Sounds exciting and a little overwhelming for a first timer like me! I'll watch for a bit then decide and hope it's not too late!
:( I so would like to come. I'm jealous of everyone who will get that great demo from such talented people. I am pretty sure I have to work that weekend because I will have been in Savannah from the 13th to the 19th. Maybe someone will work for me!!!!
This sounds like so much fun! I'm planning on signing up, but need to check my calender to make sure there is nothing going on. I'm gonna see if my oldest dd wants to come with me and participate... then we'll spend the night and have a girls weekend!
Thanks for planning this... it sounds like it'll be great!
Hooray! The official thread! Officially sign me up please!!! And seriously Tracy, you shouldn't have put in that bit about tenting in your backyard.... I'll put up my tent anywhere!! ;)
Kari and Gayla, I am putting ya down! Kari, I am serious if you are!
Cheryl, it is not as overwhelming as it looks. There are lots of optional items but the only required items are a card front and a shoe box. You can do that! Oh yeah, and eat and chat too.
Michelle, that will be great mom/daughter time, great idea!
I, so owe my kids a trip to the Falls and it is school vacation, I am a definite maybe...now, I just need to find something for them to do while i stamp!
Ok, Tracy,it looks like it will take me 90 minutes to get there. That's doable! Please add me to the list of those committed. My check will be in the mail!
The day looks lke a lot of fun and so well organized! thanks!
Will pour over the detail this weekend!

I really want to attend this as well, but I have to make one last check on my calendar to see if I have to attend my nephew's fiance's bridal shower that day. I don't know if a date has been set yet, but it's supposed to be in April. I'll check back later. While I'm here, can you explain what a shoebox project is? Thanks!

Lisa.... if you've been to a stamp camp type function you've probably already done a shoebox project.
You bring all the supplies needed (precut paper, stamps, ink, embellishments, and all the tools) for making your project in some sort of box (hence the term shoebox). The shoebox projects will be done in small groups with your tablemates (usually 7 - 10 people). Some people type up directions to go along with their project, but that is up to you. You will of course have a sample for everyone to follow.

Now I understand! :-D I do this already with my stamp club! I usually put all the materials they need in a baggie. I'll do the same for this!
Thanks!

aww, MJ! You only get updates on the thread every once in awhile.. don't know why that is (unless you're actually "on" SCS, then they seem to come every time someone posts...hmmm).
You'll find all the details in the first few posts of this thread. I think posts #1-10. But then you could just call me, silly!
