You can join our incredible papercrafting community at NO COST. So what are you waiting for?
I am debating about going.. my checkbook would go into shock so probably better to NOT go, especially since I'm going out to see my kids and grandson in CO in a few weeks. I will likely stay home and behave and clean as I should...
DH and the music ministry is playing at a church this Sunday in Inwood, WV so we'll have that on that day too.
Any idea where the Sept event will be? I'm in southeast VA.

STAMP CLUB MEETINGS & A SEPT. 2011 RETREAT INFO IN POSTS BELOW!!!
You are invited to our new stamp club!!
It is open to all SCSers! Every couple of months we'll try to meet for a few hours to share ideas, exchange swaps, craft, munch and chat. We'll aim for a Saturday, making exceptions for holidays and weather of course and availability of meeting space. We will do a potluck each time, so be sure to post what you'll be bringing each month as well.
We'll have the details for each meeting here as well as a list to sign up. Just post here if you have questions or want to join us.
If you'd like to teach a class, please feel free to post that here as well! We'll rotate through each month so everyone has a chance to share their ideas too.
Be sure to bring your basics to each meeting, i.e. scissors, tape, glue, pops, markers, cutters, etc, plus watch for a list of supplies for that month's project(s). We'll do an exchange of some sort each month too so bring as many as those who have signed up for that month if you want to swap too.
I don't think we have a location for the September get together yet. Where in southeast Virginia are you located? I am on the middle peninsula in Hartfield. We could possibly ride together to the monthly get togethers. Ellen
Welcome to the thread! Here is the info on the September Retreat. The details for meetings are in the posts that are at the beginning of this thread. We probably won't have a September meeting separate from the retreat. We may meet up again this summer in July or August if we have someone volunteer to host and a date, and then we'll look at October or November also for a meeting probably.
DATES: Friday, September 2 (after noon) - Sunday, September 4, 2011 (by noon)
THEME: NATURALLY! (Since we'll have organic foods, and Fall will be coming up, just seems appropriate!)
COST PER PERSON: $141,
Continental Breakfast is included, and would include lunch and dinner on Saturday. They are organic meals from the owner's farm.
There are a total of 8 rooms there, sleeps up to 20 so it would be shared rooms, 3.5 shared bathrooms. We'll limit to 15 total though.
HALF ($70) IS DUE TO SIGN UP, THE BALANCE ($71) IS DUE BY JUNE 30TH. WE WILL LIMIT TO 15 SIGN-UPS, 2 PEOPLE PER ROOM, FOR THE EASE OF IT.
TO RESERVE, POST HERE AND CONTACT ME TO SEND IN YOUR FEE THROUGH ME.
We will potluck for Friday evening's dinner, and for snacks and drinks for the weekend. Each person attending needs to also plan to teach one craft project for everyone, providing those supplies to them also. Projects should take less than a half hour to do.
If you like, you can book a private massage on site for $70/hr in case anyone is interested too.
We'll have a "yard sale" table too where you can bring supplies/items that you are looking to sell/trade with others, keeping amounts of items reasonable to fit on a table for all.
If anyone is a demo or has products they'd like to share, let me know.

Ellen -- Are there any good LSS's there that would have a room they'd allow us to use for a meeting sometime too?

I sent Kim another PM to see if she is interested in hosting for July or August, or even October or November since she had offered too. I can host one as well but am a bit further away and out of the way from all of you, since I'm in Falling Waters, WV (just south of the Maryland border along I-81). Hoping to hear from Kim this week and we'll go from there too on finding those locations!

Thanks for this information. I'm so new to this that I don't know what I could do to teach the group. lol I'll think about this one but not sure I'll be able to attend. I am VERY interested in the retreats. My sister in MA attends scrapping retreats all the time and has a fabulous time.

Susan,
There is a local quilt and scrapbooking store in Gloucester, VA that has room for classes. It may be too far for most of our group to attend (at least 3 hours from Northern Virginia. I think something closer to Manassas or Woodbridge area would work for more or us. It's still about 2 - 2 1/2 hours from me, but doable for a day trip. Anyone know of something in that area?
Ellen
Oh, we are an easy bunch. Any project will be fien with us, from tags to cards to pins or magnets or notepads to coasters... We just like to craft!

Me too! What would you all like to do most? For example, learn a new technique? Make ABACs? Make lots of cards? Scrapbook? What have you not learned that you'd like to try?

Susan,
My wishlist of activities:
Sewing on paper
Scrapbooking
Card making
Techniques I want to learn:
Encaustic
Watercolor bleed
Wrinkle free distress
Distressed glue
I may teach myself a couple of these techniques for my projects to share depending on what others are interested in learning.
WOW, I don't think I've ever tried any of those techniques so would be happy to try them or learn them too!!!
Is encaustic the smoke one? If so I did that last year for a swap.
We did a watercolor one in a stamp club a couple of months ago but I'm not sure what watercolor bleed is... We used the aqua pens from SU with the ink refills to color roses that had been clear embossed first on the glossy cardstock.
I found this on the TH website on the wrinkle free distressing. I always enjoy making paper using new techniques... I like the way the shaving cream ones turn out if you haven't tried that.
"WRINKLE-FREE" DISTRESSING
To create the look of aged papers, from times gone by, without all the lines
and wrinkles - give this a try. Working on your non-stick Craft Sheet, begin
by directly applying various colors of Distress Ink Pads to the surface of the
Craft Sheet. A couple of swipes of a color or two will do the trick (you
might also try using an original color of Distress Ink along with a new one!).
Get out your Distress Re-Inkers for this next step as you want to add a bit of
intense color for the ultimate vintage look. I like using Walnut Stain or
Vintage Photo for this, so remove the glass dropper from the bottle and drag it
across the inked Craft Sheet - do not squeeze any drops of ink as it will take
over everything! Next mist the Craft Sheet with water to allow the inks to
begin mixing and blending - usually 3-4 sprays is plenty. Then take your paper
or tag and place in directly on the inked Craft Sheet and lift it off. If you
have any un-inked areas simply place that area of the paper on any left over
inks on the sheet. Finally dry your paper or tag using an iron or a Heat-It
Craft Tool ( if you allow your papers to air dry they will curl and force most
of the ink to the edges so I prefer to heat them to dry.). To finish your
attic-fresh look, ink the edges with Distress Inks using a piece of Cut n' Dry
Foam.
I enjoy trying new techniques because you end up with something unique and you can change the look just by varying the colors. I also like painting on paper with acrylic paints. You can scrape, stamp, doodle and layer colors and generally make a big mess. It's always fun to experiment.

We have a new granddaughter today! Welcome, Grace Elizabeth Crauder! I can't wait to meet her, hold her, kiss her toes and take in that new baby smell. DH and I will be going to California July 26. God bless them, everyone!
Congratulations Terrie, there are just no words that capture "grandchild joy". What a very beautiful name. May God bless her life and her family! Ann Marie
