Operation Olds Alberta - July 12 & 13, 2008
Innisfail Indulgence has moved to Olds College, in beautiful Olds Alberta. We have booked space at the Olds College, a small town Agricultural College, with on site townhouses for rent, a botanical garden, a cafeteria, and a great stamping space in the Land Science Center.
We start on July 12th, with registration at 8:00AM. 24 hour stamping until 4pm on Sunday July 13th.
Cost is $30 for the weekend. This includes your stamping space, breakfast on Saturday morning, and some other surprises that will make you happy.
Townhouses can be rented for $40 per room. Each Townhouse has 4 rooms, so if you want to organize a group to stay together, just let them know when you register. Townhouse registration is done directly with the College by phoning (403) 556-8330. They are saving a block for us until June 15th. The Townhouses have all the bedding and such, but you will need to bring cookware and eating utensils (don't forget a coffee pot) if you want to prepare your meals in your Townhouse. Check in time is 2pm and check out is 4pm.
If you don't feel like cooking, or leaving the site for meals, you can purchase meal tickets from the cafeteria. Prices are $5.20 for breakfast, $8.20 for lunch, and $9.60 for supper. $23.00 for a whole day. Please add GST to these prices when figuring out your budget. Please see Post #10 to sign up. You can purchase meals without a ticket, but the college is strongly encouraging the tickets so that the cafeteria can be better prepared. Tickets will save you money, and get you through the line faster.
For those of you who want to RV, there is a first-come first serve parking lot (#6) with power. Cost is $15 plus GST per night.
Payment is due June 15th. We have space for 20, First paid, first served.
Payment for your registration can be sent to me at:
Robin Laderoute
46 Aspen Heights Way
Innisfail, AB
T4G 1Y5
We will be doing shoebox swaps, and other events. Check out Post 109 for the details.

I am sad to say that I am not going to be able to attend Operation Olds, but I am happy to say that I am able to help Robin out!!
My job is to take care of meal tickets!! Here are the details about meal tickets:
If you don't feel like cooking, or leaving the site for meals, you can purchase meal tickets from the cafeteria. Prices are $5.20 for breakfast, $8.20 for lunch, and $9.60 for supper. $23.00 for a whole day. Please add GST to these prices when figuring out your budget.
So, please PM me with what meal tickets you will want. Remember, you actually purchase them from the cafeteria, but they want a count (at least I think that is the deal, I'll keep you posted about that). I'll keep a running list here so you can check and see what you've signed up for and then you can correct me if I've gotten it wrong. As well, you can see what the group and your buddies are signing up for which might help in your decision making :-)
Here is how you will get your meal tickets:
***Tickets are purchased on Saturday morning over at the Frank Grisdale Hall Building, the same place you sign in for your rooms, and rent your RV place. The College would like to know how many of each are needed (breakfast, lunch, supper, full day) so they can advise the cafeteria. Apparently you can purchase meals without tickets but it takes longer and costs more!!*** Note that Breakfast on Sat morning is included in the cost, and you don't need a ticket for that -- sorry, I had it wrong on the list for the last little while!!
If you want only certain tickets, for instance, only Saturday supper and Sunday supper, then when you PM me please specify that and I will put you on both lists!!
Please make sure you give me your SCS and your real name when you PM me as well! I'll edit this post as individuals register or if information changes.
Please sign me up. Could you please let me know where I could go camp. My DH says he wants to come to veg for the weekend and we can just bring the camper if we have power hook up.
thanks

4 people to a condo. Each person pays $40 per night. You have a common key to the condo, but a separate key to your bedroom so your stuff is secure. The condo has a common kitchen and living room.

There are lots of camping spots around Olds, and I was told you can park on the campus. I will check on whether you can get power.
Just subscribing - Robin probably won't be able to attend but I'd love to stop in for a chat and mini visit! I still have swap stuff sitting in my basement from last year I could deliver them in person if some of the same people will be attending. I'm sure I have the list somewhere in my mess (... er I mean complex organizing sytem LOL!) Plus I'd love to just hang out and *chat* on the thread. I've missed you guys on SCS these past months. Life got extremely busy for a while LOL Best of Luck I'm sure it will be a great hit.
On another note ... Robin what was the name of that church we were at last year? Was it catholic? DD is doing her first communion in two weeks (hence not attending EE2) but we thought we should still attend mass next weekend when we're up at the lake and shoot for a little more regular attendance while at the lake this summer)
Have a great Monday!

You are going to miss it? Aw shucks - but do drop in for a visit, we would love to see you.
The church we were at last year was Innisfail's Catholic church. Your other choices are in Red Deer, and there are some there that are worth just seeing....I haven't been in it, but the one one the south of Red Deer is all curves, designed by a Native fellow, renowned for his architectural design.

Donelda, about all the food tickets, I'm a little confused! I thought it was Saturday Breakfast included in the cost not Sat. Lunch. As of now I'll be needing tickets for lunch and supper on the Saturday then breakfast and lunch on the Sunday. Have to check out flights too so I know what time I need to leave to come home. At least I won't have to rush away early like I do at EE.

Thanks Ruth -- you are correct!! It is Saturday Breakfast that is included in the cost and not lunch!! I have corrected the post to reflect this!! Thanks -- it's a good thing you are an eagle eye!!
Could you please PM me with these ticket requests. I am able to keep better track of them that way!! And then, you can keep me updated if it changes Thanks!! :-)
I am so sad that I will not even be able to meet you :-(
oh this sounds fun! I'm not sure if I can make it yet, but I'll find out as soon as I can. Is there an option for a day cropper? So if I can only make it for the Saturday is that possible?
And just a little side question. My husband just accepted a job in Red Deer tonight, we're going to commute for a bit (probably a year) but we're tossing up moving to either innisfail or blackfalds, any info anyone might want to share with me about either place would be so great!!??
Lacombe is an AWESOME town!! Have lived here all my life except after graduation from HS went to Edmonton for 5 years, but then right back here. It is only a 15 minute drive to Red Deer (about the same distance as Innisfail). Blackfalds is much, much smaller. Does not have the amenities that Lacombe has. Innisfail is a nice little town too. Smaller than Lacombe, but bigger than Blackfalds.
You should come on down and just drive around the area. As you can tell, I LOVE my town.

We won't be able to offer a reduced rate for 1 day croppers, but if someone else wants your other day, we can hook the two of you together and you can share the cost. Something about budgets and covering costs etc (this is a non-profit event) that the Accountant/Boss warned me about. Oh wait.....I'm the Accountant/Boss, let me check.......nope, sorry, have to say no. LOL
Olds is much smaller, but a good chance to get to know everyone so you are rip roaring ready to dive in to Calgary.
I live in Innisfaiil so I can tell you about living here......and I currently have a house for sale......here's a deal, you buy my house, and I will pay for Olds. How's that?
Innisfail is pretty much self-contained for food etc., though not so much for clothing and fancy stuff. We do have a lot of fun stuff .....an indoor swimming pool, skateboard park, twin arenas, curling rink, ski hill, golf course, toboggan run, walking trails, a small lake that they even water ski on (ever heard of the Llewelyn brothers). We have both Catholic and Public schools, and we offer year round schooling. The people are pretty friendly. An hour west of us and you get into crown land, and the foothills. This is one of the reasons we moved here as we camp out there a lot, and it is so close. You can see the mountains from here when the weather is right.
I work downtown Red Deer, and live on the outskirts of Innisfail, and commute less that 1/2 hour from my garage to my office door. My son worked on the north end in the industrial park in Red Deer and it took him about as long.
I vote with Deb, check out Innisfail, Blackfalds and Lacombe. Lacombe is a very pretty, historic town, I like going there. Innisfail has a different look and feel to it. I don't know Blackfalds very well, but I believe it is a bedroom community and so doesn't have all the goodies you would find in Lacombe or Innisfail, something to consider. Maybe someone out there can fill us in more on Blackfalds.
