Saturday, October 24, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
First United Church of East Syracuse, 823 Franklin Park Drive, East Syracuse, NY
Join us for a day of stamping fun!
Hope you’re planning to join us at our next Central New York SCS Get Together. Here’s the info:
Cost – $20.00 per person ($21 via PayPal). Your registration must be paid no later than noon on Tuesday, September 29. Mail your registration form and payment to me. There are no refunds, but you may offer your spot to someone else. Here’s what’s planned.
Mandatory Swap(s) (just one of these is mandatory) – You’ll know how many to make when we post the final counts, and you’ll have plenty of notice since the deadline is nearly a month ahead of the event. Participating at least one of these four swaps (see below) is part of the “price” of admission so everyone must participate in a swap (plus the shoebox table project, also required). You can, however, participate in any one, some or all of these swaps. Each of these swaps will include a +1 for a door prize.
Card Front Swap - Final Count - 23 Gayla (snowcountry311) will give you some guidance on this swap. See Post #6.
Recipe Swap – Final Count - 24 Nancy (njbaker) will provide more information about 6x6 recipes. Info is in Post #11.
ATC Swap – Final Count - 24 Judy (Judy K)will tell you more about Artist Trading Cards. Check Post #8.
SU! Demo Quality* Swap – Final Count - 15 Check with Janet (evilQmom) on this. See Post #7.
*This means only current SU! products can be used but you don’t need to be a demo to participate.
Mandatory Shoebox (Table) Project – Bring your idea and all the supplies (precut but not prestamped or prepunched) needed for making your project with a small group. Again, current Stampin’ Up! products are preferred but other quality products are definitely acceptable. We’ll break the shoebox table projects into small groups. When our final count is in, you will know the table sizes. Tables will be set up to stamp the day away. You will need to bring four extra completed shoebox projects (which includes door prizes, hostess thank you, and one for your table so that everyone can follow it for directions). Participation in the table shoebox project is mandatory. This project will generally be a full card, with layers and embellishment(s). Please provide any special adhesive that's needed. So, just to say it another way: Bring 4 completed projects + make up 8 packets of materials needed to make your project. Make these something you’d be thrilled to get yourself and if you want to make another at your table that day, you will need 9 packets.
Optional Swaps – These swaps are completely optional so it’s up to you if you want to play. These will also be +1 swaps.
6x6 Technique Card Swap – Final Count - 19 Andrea (blondpolock14) is going to tell you about this in Post #10.
3D Swap – Final Count - Groups are either 7 or 8. You'll need to check to see which group you're in. Wendy (BearCollector) will tell you about this one in Post #9.
Food – We’re going to have sign ups for food only this time, so please indicate on the registration sheet what you will bring to share. Please be specific; don’t just say “food”! Bottled water will be provided.
Make & Take for All – Our CNY gatherings always feature several large group Make & Takes, so if you would prefer to provide one instead of making a food item, please say so but I do already have some lined up.
Garage Sale – Bring your stamps and stamping supplies to sell or trade. Current Stampin’ Up! items must be offered for trade only; you can sell retired items. Sorry but we can’t be responsible for missing items so bring things at your own risk.
Goodie Bags – for everyone! Everyone will leave with a bag of fabulous goodies. The goodie bags will all have the same value with some variations in colors, etc. You’ll pretty much getting back in product most of your payment for the event because that's how I try to make things work!
Door Prizes – Based on feedback from the last CNY event, door prizes may be limited this time, which means you may or may not win one of the random drawings. Donations from our own group are always welcome so let me know if you’d like to make a door prize donation and what it is. We will, of course, be awarding the +1’s from all of the swaps and the extras from the shoebox projects.
Gift Swap – You don’t have to sign up for this one, but if you would like to participate, bring a wrapped gift related to our stamping passion. We will draw for those so that everyone who brings one will also leave with one. Value on these should be about $5, and stamped projects are always appreciated! If it’s something you’d like to take home, it’s probably perfect! This swap will be done “Yankee Trader” style. Be sure to include your name somewhere inside so the lucky winner knows who to thank. REMEMBER: Stamping-related!!!
Other Stuff – Please bring your own labeled items for your personal stamping needs, including your favorite adhesive. These are the items you just can’t stamp without, like: bone folder, paper cutter/scorer, scissors, straight edge, stamp cleaner and whatever else you can't stamp without! Did I say adhesive????? Adhesive! You will likely need lots of it.
Make and wear a nametag with your name (and your SCS name) so that we know you on sight. There may be a nametag contest so keep that in mind when you’re creating yours.
Don't forget your camera!
Other things to remember: We're not running a race so SPEED is not the intent of the day. It is supposed to be a FUN day of stamping not seeing whether you can be the first one done. If you're done first, you will have ample opportunity to VISIT with your stamping friends.
Please also remember to be POLITE when "passing"...and I don't mean passing a stamp. The day will end when it ends and pushing ahead of someone won't get you out the door any faster.
Complete the registration form and forward with your $20 payment ($21 via PayPal) by noon on Tuesday, 9/29. All funds collected will be spent on the event. Your registration is complete when your payment is received. Hope you can make it!

We are closed. There will be four tables of nine. That means for your shoebox projects, you will need 8 sets of materials for your table to make your project plus 4 completed projects (1 to show at your table, 2 for door prize drawings, 1 for hostess). If you want to make your own project at your table, you will need an extra set of materials.
Swap Etiquette -- Since we will all be swapping at least one item (card fronts -- info in post 6, demo quality card fronts -- post #7, recipes -- post #11, and/or ATCs -- post #8 ), I found some good general guidelines on SCS (which also apply to the two optional swaps noted in posts 9 and 10). I hope everyone will take these guidelines seriously so that we all make and receive wonderful swaps!
These are also good guidelines to keep in mind for your shoebox project, except that you're providing materials to make a full card rather than just a front and you won't need a "recipe".
1) Quality work -- This isn't about the quantity of layers or embellishments (please do use at least one embellishment and two layers), or whether you are new at this or not. "Quality" means straight cuts with no crooked, fuzzy edges, tears, wrinkles, etc. (unless that is part of the design), attaching your layers straight (again, unless part of your design), stamping images clearly with fully inked stamps, etc. If you make a noticeable mistake while stamping your swaps, turn the cardstock over, or cover with another layer. Last of all, quality means to use cardstock that is a nice weight not some flimsy stuff.
2) "Recipes" -- appreciated but not required. This means: your SCS name; your IRL name; listing the colors, stamp sets and embellishment you used; any techniques or tips you want to include. If you choose not to include a recipe, please include at least your name so we know who made your fab creation. Avery labels work great, but a plain piece of paper or your personalized stamp work just as well.
3) The only one of these swaps requiring all current Stampin' Up! products is the demo quality swap. All other swaps can use any quality stamps, cardstock, inks, etc. This is not the time to unload your cheap cardstock!
4) Would you like to receive your swap or make your shoebox project? Then it's PERFECT!
Please ask any questions you might have and someone will be sure to answer. We have all made a lot of great friends getting together at these gatherings so we hope you’ll join us at this one!
Resummarizing: Layers - at least two! Dig into those embellishments, give your fellow swappers a real treat! Put those punches to work! Have fun, try something different! Show some pride and put your name on the back!!
Food Info -- Please remember when making/purchasing your food item that you do not need enough to feed an army. There should be a very nice variety coming: donuts - cake - muffins - sticky buns - cookies - brownies - candy - chips & dip - specialty dips - casseroles/main dish items - salads and side dishes - bread & butter - cheese & crackers - fruit - and more. Bottled water and coffee will be provided.
So, my suggestion is to make/bring a "normal" amount not a super size. I am sure there will still be leftovers but everyone should be able to find something they like. If you don't believe that to be the case, please feel free to pack a sandwich. We do have a refrigerator and stove available and there are plenty of outlets to plug in crockpots. There will NOT be a microwave available unless someone brings it!
REMINDER: If you are bringing something that is to be served HOT, please remember that there is NO microwave available. We will again have access to a refrigerator and stove (with oven).
DIRECTIONS to First United Church of East Syracuse, 823 Franklin Park Drive. Get the specifics from mapquest.com or randmcnally.com. But, generally speaking, most everyone will be taking Rte. 481 (from 81, 690 or 90) and exiting at Kirkville Road WEST (exit 5W). Franklin Park Drive is only about a mile from the exit and will be on your right. You will pass one light, two gas stations at the corner where the light is, and a school (Bishop Grimes). The church is just a short way up Franklin Park Drive and will also be on your right.
If you have headed in the wrong direction on Kirkville Road and get to that light, you will see a church on your left and houses on the right. That's Fremont Road; turn around and come back the other way.
Stampers: Please note that for this gathering we will be collecting cards/card fronts for the card ministry of the First United Church of East Syracuse. They are our host for the day (and several past gatherings as well). Hope you will bring your cards along for them.
For those who would like to donate cards to the card ministry, here are some suggestions for cards:
Mostly” thinking of you”, “get well” and “ birthday greetings”. We aren't sure if they send out Christmas cards to the shut ins but even winter themed ones w/o specific greetings would work for winter birthdays, etc.

Reason: adding names
--ONLY current Stampin' Up! materials allowed.
--DO NOT have to be a demo to participate.
--2 layers, plus at least one embellishment.
--See Linda's general rules of etiquette for swapping in Post #3 above for the rest of the rules.
Please include the following information on the back of your swap:
Your name
Your SCS name
Your email address/contact information
Swap recipe is also helpful, but not mandatory
PM me if you'd like to participate and I'll add you to the list. Final numbers will be posted here after registration closes.
Artist Trading Cards (miniature works of Art, traded between Artists. Yes, that's you!)
ATCs are 2.5" x 3.5".
Please be certain to use quality cardstock.
At least two layers
One embellishment or dimension.
They should be made with care. Something you are proud to trade and would enjoy receiving. Be sure to make one for yourself. If you have others that you have made before, bring them along as there are many who enjoy trading.
For any that don't know the following is a link to a diagram of how to get 10 ATCs cut from 1 8.5x11 sheet of card stock:
Since 3-D items can be more involved and sometimes more costly, we will make smaller groups for swapping in this group. We will decide that later once we know the total number of people who want to participate. These 3-D items can be boxes, bags, frames, party favors, covered journals, notebooks and so much more. Check the SCS gallery for ideas. This is a great way to get new ideas for workshops or gift giving. If possible, please include a recipe or template, so everyone will have the pattern for your great project. The recipe/template is just a suggestion, not essential. Please send me a PM (BearCollector) if you are planning to join the 3-D Swap or have any additional questions. Thanks!! Wendy

Reason: updating details
6x6 recipe on how to do a technique, and someplace ON THAT CARD should be a sample, (an ATC size would work well) Two layers of cardstock minimum. Please make sure there is something stamped and do your best work. If it's something that you would love to receive, then it is PERFECT.
I know that many of you may have participated in collection of great techniques already started! So on that note, how about some paperfolding techniques?
We would need a sign up so we don't all do the same technique(please PM me)!
Here's a list to start(but let me know if you'd like to do something that isn't on the list)! I will update the list(in Green) as I get volunteers for each technique!
This is a +1 swap! (the +1 will be for a door prize)
6x6 scrapbooked page that includes one of your favorite food recipes. Two layers of cardstock minimum, please use at least one embellishment. Please make sure there is something stamped. Please do your best work. You can check out the gallery for ideas if you need some. There are many 6 x 6 recipe swaps.
You will know how many pages to make when final numbers are tallied after registration is closed.
PLEASE PM me if you'd like to be included in this swap. I'll add you to the list started below.
Vendor products: NVR (no vendor restrictions)
Please include the following information on the back of your swap:
Your name
Your SCS name
Your email address/contact information
Swap recipe is also helpful, but not mandatory
It is yet to be determined how we will work the swaps. This will be determined that day.
This is a PLUS ONE swap. The plus one will be one of the doorprizes for the day.

Maybe I'll figure it out by later tonight I wish I had more self-discipline to get them done in advance! <-- that's really my problem!
