anyone interested in meeting in the new haven county and surrounding areas for stamping?? I've never done one of these but it seems like it would be fun.
hamden is a little over an hour from danbury....i work in cheshire just south of southington..actually rt 322 is really close to my job. i am participating in a craft fair on november 18th but after that i am free to do some stamping...
send me a pm if you want to do some stamping...and gather up your stamping friends also...
I live very close to you - Southington - and it would be great to get together for a stampin' party. With the holidays fast approaching it will be difficult, but perhaps we can set something up early in the New Year?
I did some quick checking on Yahoo maps and most of the places listed (Hamden, Southington, Cheshire) seem to be a 90-minute drive (+ / - 30 minutes).
I wouldn't mind the driving time but would not want to do it in the winter (at least not until I'm familiar with the roads).
I'll keep myself subscribed to this thread in hopes of a get-together in the Spring or something closer to Danbury.
Meanwhile, I hope everyone has a safe, fun, healthy, and happy holiday season!
Happy Crafting!

If I am not mistaken Dutchess county is right over the border of Danbury right? It used to date a guy who lived in Carmel and it took me 60 minutes to drive there from Bristol. Bristol is right on 84 though so it was a straight shot.. Maybe we could set something up in the spring as a CT/NY get together!!

Yep - at least the part where I live. I can get to I-84 in 20-30 minutes depending upon traffic and if the lights go my way.
If a get-together is in an easy to find place off 84 I don't mind winter driving. I just don't want to look for a place located "three lefts after the tall tree on an unnamed road." It's so easy for me to get lost! I also want the "best condition commute" to be less than 2 hours so I can drive home the same day. The first time I go someplace, I like to do it daytime, especially if there are twists and turns and unnamed roads, etc.
If some of you can meet before Spring, please post the details and I'll consider it (I think we're expecting a mild winter - I hope - snow is my least favorite 4-letter word ;) ). And then there'll be experienced folks to help us plan the Spring gathering!

Southington is about 45 minutes to an hour from Danbury - depending on traffic. Perhaps for a first gathering, we can decide who is most centrally located for everyone and meet there?

That sounds reasonable. It'd be fun to get together with other stampers.
If Danbury is an acceptable location (not sure it will be), perhaps we can meet at the Danbury Fair Mall the week of December 4th (or 11th) for almost-last minute holiday shopping. And a card swap (quick and easy - mostly chatting and meeting each other). Then, after the holiday rush, another gathering can be planned.
Another idea (I'm full of them this evening ;) ): We plan a shopping trip to the Great American Stamp Store (I think it's in Bridgeport) for January. Since we'd be meeting at a store, it shouldn't be too big a deal if folks (possibly me, but hopefully not) feel safer staying home. We can do a card exchange and have lunch together. The way I see it the only risk is making more cards than what you actually exchange.
I'm looking forward to feedback on these suggestions and am eager to hear other ideas.
It would be fun if we could get together for a class, or arrange to have special demonstrations.
Thanks for the link (and correction about the store's location). A special demonstration could be very interesting.
I'd want to wait until January (at the earliest) so I have gift money to spend. But I'm also an SU demo and Sell-A-Bration will be happening January-February.
Waiting is so hard to do but we may get a larger turnout if we wait until Spring (April / May).
together after the holiday madness....how does that sound?
It'd be great to get together! January/February might be busy for me but please choose a date and if I can make it work I will.
Has anyone ever set-up a poll on SCS? If so, I think a poll for possible dates might be a good idea. Also, a poll with locations. I know I won't be able to do much of the planning if it happens Jan/Feb so my personal suggestion is the Great American Stamp Store (arrange a class for however many of us can go).
I am flexible and open to ideas and am hopeful I can attend.
I think getting together after the holidays would be nice. It would give us all something to look forward to so we don't get that "let down" feeling after Christmas!

Just popping in to say HI and welcome to those who recently found this thread.
My DH and I are finally doing our in-store shopping tomorrow (his job lets him cash out part of his unused PTO so we had to wait for that check). Most of those on our list are adults so we'll pick up lots of giftcards.
I think we'll all have to wait until January to make any "definite" plans but I do hope we can meet soon (and often).
Happy Holidays and Happy Crafting!!!

Just saw this thread. I grew up in Hamden! Could someone please just go to Glenwood and have a hot dog for me! Oh, and a slice of pizza in New Haven and some real Italian bread and pastry. LOL
I wish I could join you, but Virginia is too far.

Welcome to the thread Joan (nice to know I'm not the only early bird on the East Coast). I understand your pizza and pastry comment - I grew up in Queens and lived briefly in the Bronx. Luckily we have one really good pizza place "close enough" and a couple that are decent. It's finding good pastry that's been difficult. We have a bakery very close to the house that is good but pricy. If we're getting cakes or pies we actually prefer the bakery at the grocery store where we shop weekly. This grocery store also gets "Arthur Avenue" bread so we buy a loaf when we need it.
BTW, your blog has awesome art. I hope everyone takes a look.
Just wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday and a wonderful new year. I still need to make some cards and get them filled, out, addressed, etc. so I'll be busy (right after I have lunch and a large cup of coffee).
Happy Holidays! Happy New Year! Happy Crafting!
