Hey you guys!
Leslie, I can't believe you didn't email me and Karen about this!! But Paula did, and we want to come! I'll talk more with her and let you know for sure. My only issue is that my daughter Jennifer is expecting her first baby on August 5th. If she delivers early, I won't be there; but Karen could probably still make it with Paula. I'll let you know for sure later this week. This is exciting!

OK ladies, cutoff for registering for the swap is this Saturday. That way everyone has plenty of time to prepare for their card. Please, if you have signed up but haven't signed up for food, let me know ASAP so we can firm up the list. Also, if you friends that want to come, get them on the list soon! We all want to get our swaps ready! I am so excited. We are going to have a blast!
Does anyone want to be the "designated photographer" for the event so we can post pics?
Any questions, post them here!
Thanks and looking forward to hearing from you soon!
Theresa

I love to take pictures & will definitely have my camera with me, so I'll volunteer to be one of the designated photographers! Only a few more weeks- does everyone know what they are doing for the swap? I can't wait to see what all of you creative ladies come up with!
Morning everyone -- I looked at the calendar and thankfully the brain circuts were firing -- I just realized that our get together is a week from this Saturday. I am FREAKING out. Why, because I've never participated in an event like this, but more importantly, I am CLUELESS about what to do, how to do a shoebox swap. Can anyone take me by the hand and guide me along? LOL What has everyone else decided for their shoebox swap and how about those name tags.
Okay, now I lived in Columbia for 5 years up until this past January and never even heard of such an event. Now that I'm gone, you all have one coming up. If you have never attended one, you are in or a wonderful treat. I was lucky enough to attend one in Texas this past April.
Chele, basically what you do is design a card. Then you cut all the required paper, (for the number of ladies attending the swap) and if you want your card to have some embossing or something else that requires some drying time, then you can do that in advance.
If you will be using any other types of embellishments, then you will provide that also and any tools needed for that embellishment. At the Texas swap, many ladies pretied some bows and others just provided enough ribbon for us to make the bow ourselves. It's up to you. Don't forget the eyelet setter or the hole puncher for brads if you're going to use those.
Many of the ladies put all the paper and embellishments into a plastic baggie (for each attendee) and then placed everything into a shoebox--hence the name.
All you need now is to provide the inks, markers and stamps to make your card. These along with the other tools will stay at the table at the station at which your card is. At the Texas swap, we each brought our own adhesive. As each lady sits at your station, (we had 45 min per table with 4 or 5 cards per table) they will grab a baggie and begin making the card that you will have on display.
Did that help or did I just confuse you? Let me know if you need more info. Have fun, I know you all are going to love it!

Hi, Ladies! I am going to have to drop out of the swap. :( For some reason I had it in my mind that it was going to be on August 5th, not July 29th. Our family is having our big reunion on the 29th so I won't be able to come. I apologize very much and I will truly miss being there. I really want to be involved when you do another one. Thanks so much for all your planning!
OK girls, the big event is closer than ever. We have about a week before our big swap. Does anyone have any questions? Please let us know if you do.
BIG REMINDER!!!! If you want to be entered in the door prize, please bring something to donate. Anything under a $10 value is great! Also, we will have a prize for the best nametag as well! We are firming up the numbers as I write. I'm still waiting on a few people to PM me back about their food but it looks like we need to plan for about 24 people! Yeah!!

Good morning ladies,
i am getting very excited about this swap. Just a couple questions, do you think we are going to need more paper products? If so let me know and I will be happy to bring some. Also, are we only preparing our swap for the number of ladies signed up or do we need a few extra's just in case?
Ladies, I am so, so sorry, but as you know, I am in an electric wheel chair. Someone else in the Raleigh area had offered to drive me in my van so we could both go, but now she has illness in her family and can't come either. I begged my DH, but he has people in from Germany all week, will have to work late evey night, including Friday, and says there is just no way he can drive me on late Friday night. They might even have to work on Saturday:( . So I am so sorry to back out at this late date, but I have no way to get there. Please have fun, and maybe I can plan a week at my sister's next year to already be in Columbia if you do this again. And thank you so much for offering to pick me up at my sister's house and take me to the Lutheran Center. That was such a kind offer from you.
Let me know how it goes! I'll miss meeting all of you!:(

Leslie,
Look at the first post for up to date participants. I'm trying to keep this as accurate as I can. It looks like 22 now. A great group! How have you been? I haven't heard from you lately! :-)

Will the shoebox swaps take our entire time, or should we be planning on bringing other stamping projects? Sorry to sound ignorant, but this is my first stamping event.
We aren't sure Chelelew! I'm thinking 20 or so projects might keep us busy for a while. The time is from 10 until so when we finish it'll be over! I'm trying to be flexible since we really aren't sure of how long it will take. Anybody else have any experience with these swaps?? :-)

I think everyone needs to be prepared to spend at least 4-5 hours. I was involved in a shoebox swap a few years ago and we only had 15 ladies and it took us about 4 hours. You have to remember not everyone stamps at the same rate. What may take one 2 mins to do may take someone eles 15 mins to do. I think you should look at it as a wonderful stamping event, to meet and greet and learn new things. If everyone has all the supplies baged up so you just sit down at that station and pull a bag and go to work, it will run smoothly. Or is someone has to leave without stamping a certain station then that person should be able to pick up her supplies to take with her to complete later. Hope this helps.
Great suggestions! I know katherinevw, thestampinmom and I are going to try to have everything organized before hand so it goes as smoothly as possible and everyone will have a chance to stamp and get to know each other. I really am looking forward to putting a name with a face, KWIM? It is a great idea to have all the supplies in a baggie at your "station" so the stamper sitting there just needs to take the bag and begin making your gorgeous creations! :-)

THolland and TheKookieStampingMom (did I get that right?) I'm so sorry too, but thank you so much for your kind words, and any pix would be so great. If you pm me, I'll give you my e-mail or my address. You gals have fun, and I sure hope no one else has to drop out. It sound like it will be great. :( I'll be sorry to miss it.
Sign me, Stuck in NC
