Calling all Eastern Iowa SCS stampers! A shoebox swap to meet and stamp with area SCS members will be held in Camanche, Iowa on April 25. This event is being organized by Kathy DeLacy (angelbabysmom), Sherry Letchford (SherryLL), and Rhonda Mohl.
Date: April 25, 2009
Place: Church of the Visitation Parish Hall
1028 Middle Road
Camanche, IA
Time: 9 AM to 4 PM
Cost: $15.00
Registration Deadline: April 1st, 2009
There will be places for 25 people. Please post to this thread or PM me if you want to be added to the list. If we get more than 25 people that want to attend, I will start a waiting list.
What is a shoebox swap?
This is a fun swap that allows you to create a lot of cards in a short time, but only having to come up with one great idea of your own! Prior to the swap day, you will need to create a card and then make a kit for each person which contains all the supplies, as well as written instructions needed for them to create the card. The number of kits needed depends on how many people we get to sign up. I will let you know a month ahead of time.
***These cards should not take more than 10-15 minutes to complete.***
I definitely do not want to discourage challenging cards or cards showcasing new techniques. However, if your card is intricate and fancy you may want to pre-stamp or pre-assemble some items for the other stampers. You will need to make a completed sample of your card so everyone can see what the card is supposed to look like. Then each person will be able to complete your card and take home a variety of cards.
This is a full card swap. Cards should have a minimum of two layers and one embellishment. You need to supply all materials needed for your card. That means cardstock, ribbon, eyelets, stamps, ink, etc. All cardstock will need to be pre-cut to sheet or to the size needed for your card. This not only saves you money, but the rest of us time. No vendor requirements on all supplies, but quality, thick cardstock is a MUST! No envelopes need be supplied.
Put all pieces needed to assemble your card into separate sandwich bags or kits. Include written/printed instructions for your card in each bag. You will not be demonstrating these, so please make sure your instructions are very, very clear so that even beginners can easily complete your card. And please be sure that your card can be completed in 10-15 minutes.
Put your original card, your kits, stamps, ink and anything else that is needed but not in the basic supply kit in a Shoebox or basket. On the outside please put your name so we know who made which project. You may want to cut a few extras in case boo-boos occur. Please label all your supplies.
Please bring a BASIC SUPPLY KIT to include: Stamp-n-scrub w/stamp cleaner, scissors, adhesive, pop dots or foam dots, bone folder, paper cutter/scorer, scissors, straight edge, and a black journaling marker and whatever else you cant stamp without (markers?). Have some sort of carry case for these items as youll be moving to each station.
Please also bring something to carry your completed cards in that will keep them safe. Bring your camera if you want to take pictures of the card samples in case you dont have time to complete all the projects.
YOU NEED TO BRING ENOUGH SUPPLIES FOR EVERY PERSON THAT ATTENDS THE EVENT TO MAKE YOUR CARD. Final count will be given a month in advance.
***If your card uses glitter, you must bring a tray to catch the excess glitter.
Other Info:
If you have any questions, please pm me. I will be happy to explain any details you wish to know about.
YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER AND PRE-PAY
Cost: $15.00 per person. Your registration must be paid no later than April 1st. Mail your registration form and payment to me. There are no refunds, but you may offer your spot to someone else. All funds collected will be spent on the event.
Heres whats planned:
Shoebox Swap Youll know how many to make when we post the final count, and youll have plenty of notice since the deadline is a month ahead of the event.
Lunch and lite snacks will be provided, as well as pop and water. If you have a favorite snack you would like to share, please feel free to bring it. The kitchen will be available for our use.
Door Prizes If you would like to donate a wrapped gift, we will draw names through out the day. Stamped projects are also welcomed. If its something youd like to take home, its probably perfect! Be sure to include your name somewhere inside so the lucky winner knows who to thank. If you wish to donate a prize, please PM me so I will know for planning.
Name Tags Make and wear a nametag with your name and your SCS name so that we know you on sight.
Church Donations Id love to be able to give a little back to the church. If youd like to donate any canned goods or non-perishable food for the local food bank, they have a box available. Participation is completely OPTIONAL.
Garage Sale Please bring any items that you would like to trade or sell. Current SUP supplies may be traded but can not be sold. Any retired products may be offered for sale. We will have some shopping time during the lunch break.
***Please park around the back side and come in the back double doors, NOT the doors by the circle drive. There will be Mass at 4:30, so we need to be done by 4.
***If there is enough interest, we may bring in a massage therapist for the afternoon. This would be an additional charge, paid directly to her. Usually they charge $10 for a 10 minute chair massage. WHEN YOU RSVP, PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WOULD INTERESTED IN THIS.

Yippee!!!!! Count Michelle and I in for sure! (unless I have a niece that decides to come a few days early!!!) Michelle Poggenpohl and Crystal Wessley needs to be added to the list ASAP!!! haha
__________________ Crystal Wessley Spring is beginning to spring!
Make sure to let me know if you would be interested in the massage therapist coming. I will only have her come if we get at least 12 people who would sign up.
The format of our swap will be different, as we will have everything spread out on big tables. Only 2 stations per table, but 6 chairs. This will give everyone the chance to work at her own pace, and no one will have to kill time, waiting for the next station. This also allows you to take breaks as needed, and gives you time for that 10 min. massage if you choose.
I currently only sent this out to SCS and the email list I got from Crystal - I wanted to give you all first chance - but in a few days I will be sending out invites to ladies in my local scrap groups, so if you are planning to come, please let me know asap, as I will only take the first 25.
There doesn't seem to be much interest, and I worry that we may have to cancel. The church hall has to be paid for in advance. And I have been holding off until we see if we get enough people sigend up. Feel free to invite friends outside of SCS. Also, if you know for sure that you cannot make it, please post that as well, so I know not to wait for you.
My group is interested but we all need to check the date. I hope to come even if the others can't. Camanche is only about an hour from me & I loved the one in Muscatine with Deb. (The dates didn't work for me to make it to Crystal's.) I hope to have an answer for you by the end of next week.
Kathy, I hope you're not fretting too much over this. It is still very early. The registration deadline is well over a month away and people tend to wait to commit. I'm still confident that swappers will join this fun fun FUN event!
Actually, I WAS panicking, Jeanette. Then a few people reminded me that I'd only posted the swap a week ago, and it is still 2 months away!! :? So I am not quite so stressed now.:-D Guess I am not the most patient person in the world, as Sherry & Rhonda can attest to.
We've invited a few other people, outside SCS who are hoping to come.
At this point, I am NOT planning to have the massage therapist come, as no one, other than the 3 of us planning the swap seem to be interested. So unless I get maybe 10 other ladies who are interested, we won't have her come.
I paid for the church hall rental & cleaning deposit today!! I hope we get more ladies signed up, or we'll be eating bread & water!!;) I am hoping we can buy some nice door prizes, too. We'll see how much money we end up with after food/rental, etc. Let me know if you plan to donate anything, so I can add that to my list.
I'm still interested & my local stamp group meets on Tuesday night. I hope to have some answers after that. It looks like my calendar is clear, but I'd love to have someone else from my area ride along with me. I love shoebox swaps & hope to get others to come along & try them with me.

Deb
Deb, that would be great. We still have ALOT of spots left!! Hope you can recruit a few friends. Where are you coming from? Maybe you can get a carpool group together if there are other ladies coming from your area, too.
Thanks. I was thinking you were in Iowa. (And I can totally relate to the flying fingers. I don't always proofread - and our spell check hasn't worked in years. sometimes I look back and see what I actually wrote and can't believe it myself!!)
Anyway, hope you can come - and bring a big group - how about 15 people?? That would fill us up!!:-D
Mandy Grimm and I will be coming...I"m hoping my daughter in law will be able to join us as well....she'll let me know as soon as her plans get firmed up. And I'm sure Mandy will be asking her BF to join us too.
That is great...so glad to see you guys again...Sounds like we are getting a little momentum here...these people always have great cards so if you have never done a shoebox swap before this is a great group to join.
