I used SU Whisper White and the Project Life Pens and had a blast. I zentangled the stamp Blended Bloom. Or at least I think that is the name of it.

Cardstock and those pigment pens. A pencil too. The Zentangle website actually has some links to quite a few "tangles"

Pinterest is another good website. Just search zentangles and there's lots of step by step tutorials which are easy (and good fun) to follow.

I did all of the above plus checked some books out at the library. I asked for THE JOY OF ZENTANGLE for a Christmas gift because I wanted to have something for easy reference. That was one that I'd gotten out from the library that I thought was user friendly.

This is a Zentangle site I like. It is also nice to have some diecut shapes to use. You just need paper and some Micron pens and you're good to go. Very relaxing and fun.

I agree Pinterest is a great place for learning and exploring Zentangles. I dabble into the zentangles. I have a book that I bought at Ikea a couple of years ago. There is a plastic page that I can pull out and can be moved. I move it to behind the sheet that I'm working on so nothing bleeds. Then I draw and even color them all in. I'll see if I can post a couple of picks.

I do have a couple of tips that might help him out getting started. It is fun, but whenever I started off too big, it became too daunting and overwhelming. In the end, it's not as fun as I thought it would be and would possibly give it up.

That is what I ran into the first couple of times I tried to wing it. I knew that I liked doing them. I knew in my heart that I could do this really addictive art format. I knew that I could make pieces that I would like to share and/or just enjoy for me. I wasn't going to let a craft tell me I couldn't do it. So, I watched hundreds of videos on youtube and I realized I had to start slow and small. The easiest way is to start on small Artist Trading cards, then move ups to 1/2 sheet of 8 1/2 x 11, then, the sky's the limit. Here are a couple of shots of the book I mentioned and a couple of my drawings.

I bought some square coasters and these books for my older teenage nieces to start them off. The first includes to pens and a pencil:

Tangle Art a Meditative Drawing Kit: A Meditative Drawing Kit: Includes Archival Pens, Paper Tiles, and a Beautif... (Hardcover) - Overstock™ Shopping - Great Deals on Technique

One Zentangle A Day: A 6-Week Course in Creative Drawing for Relaxation, Inspiration, and Fun by Beckah Krahula | 9781592538119 | Paperback | Barnes & Noble

Also, if you have a Kindle, Amazon has a $2.99 basics tutorial

There are so many zentangle sites, pinterest, you tube to choose from. If he is really at a loss where to start even a piece of paper and a black sharpie will do. Even stamping an open flower, bird or flourish can be a beginning. Hope he enjoys it. It is very relaxing. As I have stated before my DDIL is a grade 2/3 teacher and even the ADD kids settled down for a while and the whole class had a ball.

This is reminding me that I picked up some wooden ornament shapes at the Christmas clearance with the intention of doing some ornaments this year. Hmmmm; do I have time to 'tangle?
