Okay, so I was folding laundry and realized the design on a pair of my panties would make a great background paper for a card.
Then I remembered a hilarious thread about someone getting inspiration from a pair of her daughter's panties.
Then of course I thought about all the bra and panty cards that have been posted here.
Then I wondered what other strange or unusual things have inspired paper creations.
Then I thought I'd ask!
So, what's the oddest thing you've ever used for inspiration? It'd be fun if you could post a link to the inspiration piece and end result, but not necessary.
I am so surprised by the 1st reply -- I thought I was the only one who got ideas from Kleenex boxes! Glad to know I have company. Also, one day in church, I sketched the pattern on the shirt on the man ahead of me to copy when i got home.

Found this one in my gallery, too! Inspired by one of my favorite graphic tees. I malied this to my sister over a year ago, and she still has it on display in her hosue! She's a nut! Le Cafe by maryrose at Splitcoaststampers
I have seen dresses on ladies at church and tried to copy the patterns...on the other hand it shocks me how many prints the ladies wear that look like SU Designer paper prints made into dresses...lol
It started out innocently enough. I made a card to exactly match my friend's shirt that he wore to church (real red background w/ basic black Bamboo II). I didn't take a picture of the card but should have. The running joke now is that we all need to look at Ken's closet for inspiration.
I've also made an altered notebook using a pattern from a lawn chair that I saw at a concert.

Wow, church seems a great source of inspiration in more ways than one! I'll have to start paying better attention to the textiles there.
Although it's not too "odd" I recently wrote down a color combo from some silk flowers at M's to make a card. I'm going to try to make it today and post.
baby blankets!
I've been dying to scan the prints off some of the boys' baby blankets, especially some of the Gymboree and Gap ones, they're all so pretty.
I get inspiration from sooo many places! But one of my favorites is Vera Bradley bags...I know they are fabric and still sorta a artsy inspiration, but her color combos are awesome. And as my name suggests, i luv paisley prints!
One of the other biggest inspirations for me is song lyrics, I usually start a page with lyrics in mind that remind of someone or something that the page is related to. Sometimes I even use them in the title or journaling.
how funny, i just bought some hanes, took a pair out and thought, i wish i had some designer paper in this pattern! i also love the patterns of kleenex boxes but haven't done anything about it yet.
I noticed the coloring of the Dr. Seuss books and was inspired to make this card. I like the look, and now take notice of the coloring in all the other books my kids have.
I forgot, I took a picture of a friend's diaper bag at church and made cards from it as well.....

Same here with the patterns at church! I am so always looking at clor combos and patterns. In the last 2 weeks I counted 5 women wearing various outfits with yellow, black and gray. It's cute!

Are the Hanes the ones with the little pink flowers? Those are the ones that got this thread started, LOL!
patterns seen while I'm at work. At UPS, that would be on the side of boxes. At Target, it could be from ANYthing. Notebooks, dishes, clothes. Sometimes the storebought cards themselves, but usually I've already seen all of those designs right here on SCS! Oh, I LOVE some of the Target brand tissue boxes right now!
My Halloween card was inspired by a pic I saw online of a hurricane storm! It showed a gray background, fog, and a few yellow lights. Really creepy looking. I used the house and tree in "Home is Where the Haunt Is" set on gray cardstock, swirled white craft ink around, made a moon with fog over it, and added some bats with white-embossed eyes.

Haha! I do this all the time; that is, find inspiration in the people's clothes who are sitting in front of me at church! Oops, I better start paying more attention to the Mass!
Boy I guess I need to pay more attention to people clothes in church. My husband and I are the youth leaders, so we sit behind the youth. I'm not sure that could be a good inspiration. They were some different things, appropriate but different.
My favorite skirt (yes, for church!) got turned into a card. It was one of my first uploads at SCS. I also tried making a card out of a man's shirt from church but I didn't like it as well as the one from my skirt.
I would have to say that Vera bags are wonderful inspiration. I saw the yellow bird fabric and just had to have one .
I'm terrible at commenting to the girls at work that what their wearing,(fabric, accessories, shoes) would make great cards. But, they know me well and love my cards, so they're used to it.
My bank's latest promotion. Well it was latest at the time.
They had a "buzz" promotion going on and had these adorable bees in the windows and all over their website. I was able get a copy off my statement and enlarge and make a paperpiecing out of it, it was so cute.
when I first started stamping, I would take the little card sample squares in the wallpaper depts. for color inspirations.... I think sheets and fabrics are great inspiration, so I love looking through the thick JC Penney, Speigel, and Domestications catalogues... and I was blessed to get some vintage 80's wallpaper books from a friend that I sometimes go through...
The other day I was on Ebay and typed in Ginger Blossoms without any reference to SU. A whole line of fabric came up and it looks like the SU DP. I wonder who get their idea from who.
Junction216--thanks for the compliment! I didn't think my card looked that much like the Kleenex box, but when I first posted it, people commented that I forgot to post the card---they thought I had photographed two kleenex boxes. That is why I decided to tell people that the box is on the left.
I used my color copier and copied a pair of St. Louis Cardinal Lounge pants for paper that I decoupaged (?sp) on wood letters for my neighbors son's first birthday. All the women there said "where did you find Cardinal paper?".
Too Funny!
