I absolutely fell in love with the double ball ornament tutorial on the home page! I could not find hat pins in my area tho. Totally bummed I searched the internet. I mean I have been searching for 2 days now. I did not realize how hard it would be to find a supplier of a simple pin. I finally found this wonderful sight:
They do not sell hat pins with the loops on top on the sight, but if you call 262-742-4323 and speak with Sandra She can alter their pins that are called Hijab in the size you need. Isn't that wonderful!!!! If you tell her Pam sent you she will know exactly what you want. I just spent the some time explaining the whole project to her and she is just great.
The also sell brooch pins that are smaller (2.5" in length) that would be perfect for embellishments for cards.
(I am not affiliated in any way shape or form , just excited)
I saw that tutorial, and had no idea where to get hat pins. Thanks for posting this. I did figure though, that you could simply use a needle and thread. I made a pumpkin like this. If you're in a bind, you could try it out!
Since you don't have to use the sharp end of the pin to pierce the paper, you can also make your own by cutting a piece of craft wire and using a jewelry pliers to form a loop on one end. You'd just need to glue the beads on the bottom.
I did try to make the post out of floral wire ( 18 gauge), but when the cat nocked it on the floor it bent. since my cats play with my ornaments I want something a little sturdier, but thank you for the idea.
I did trim some of it off with wire trimmers, but you're right, they could still be too short for this project. Just a thought. Oooo, and they're cheap!
The corsage pins I looked up were all 2.5 inches or less. The hat pins by su are I am told 3 1/16". I purchased the 4" ones from Many Horses and am very pleased. My order got here in only 3 days. Now that is service.
