well, I am. You see, I've always been interested in art but I've never taken a formal course. Right now my life is too busy to actually sign up for any official course....so... I've bought a book on design basics and I'm going to teach myself AND I'D LOVE YOU TO JOIN ME!!
You see, those awesome card makes like Debbie Olsen, Sharon Johnson, Lisa Johnson, Nicole Heady... just to name a few... know where to put stuff and how to put it together to make it look "just right". I don't always know that stuff so I am hoping that by going through this book, and doing some actual examples I will get better at it.
I will be uploading to my scs gallery and on my blog once a week my exampes of "the right way" and "the wrong way". I am hoping to have this "class" each Tuesday starting January 8th. I would love comments and input to your thoughts. It should be fun and I am hoping to learn a lot!!!

I agree with SophieLaFontaine - I don't think you need the book! Your creations are beautiful! Let's start with the fact that I would have NEVER thought to run my ink pad over the dots in the designer paper to make them match something else.
I will definitely follow your blog classes to see if I can improve my cardmaking. Maybe one of this days I won't need to CASE anymore!

Count me in, Wiggy! I'd love to feel more confident with design, too. I check out your blog regularly and love your work. This sounds like tons of fun!
Yep, I do want to participate, too. I'm learning so much from SCS, and maybe it's time for a bit more structure in my learning.
Getting better at the stamping itself, getting better at selecting colors, etc, but what I have trouble with is the proportions. When I try to make a sketch challenge, it doesn't look like the lovely ones in the galleries. My pieces are just slightly off, size-wise.

I visited your blog. Wiggy, if you need to learn the "design basics" then Im lost.;) I will be checking in to see ur "progress" No doubt you'll just add to your already lovely creations.

Please count me in, too! And I agree with everyone else, you already have the "it" factor of design, Wiggy! But I'm a newbie and I'm excited about your new design class.
Just one question, where do we go to find you each Tuesday? Right here in General Stamping Talk? Or on your blog?

What a wonderful idea! I'm good at CASEing, but it's really hard for me to come up with my own design totally on my own. I just sit and stare at my stuff! LOL! I will add, though, that I have learned so much from Splitcoast. Little by little, things are seeping in. Again, what a wonderful idea!

After checking out your gallery, I agree with the others who think you already have a good grasp of design. I don't have any formal art or design training either so I plan to follow this and subscribe to this thread. Sounds like fun.
BTW, what book on design are you using as your guide?
I just checked out your blog and it rocks! love the gift you made for your demo too... will be checking back for your "classes" as well,- tho' I think you already have the basic instinct without formal training... TFS looking forward to 2008...
I am interested in this, too! There were some good posts awhile back about the "thirds" guidelines, etc, but it would be great to see the comparison of correct and incorrect.
Okay, now I'm thinking of those fashion pictures where the model's faces are blanked out!!
For anyone who is wondering, the book I've picked up is Design Basics Index by Jim Krause. It is the best book I've found so far and I think I can apply his stuff to card making. I hope I can maybe even help him sell a few books along the way!! I think he'd like that cause he's got a great book, in my opinion. :-) I will be referring to his "thoughts" and then applying them to my card making.

A good question by scatty. As I am just learning myself, I can't say for sure. However, what I am learning about is how to organize visual items and that kind of thing...so I am fairly certain that those of us who do scrapbook will also be able to apply the concepts to that craft! It is, afterall, about the concepts of making visual media work and I can't think of a better visual media than scrapbooking.
The same author, Jim Krause, has a wonderful little book called "Creative Sparks, an index of 150+ concepts, images, and exercises to ignite your design ingenuity". I borrowed it from the library, so I'm double ready to start learning!
I need to learn much about this and look forward to learning with you. Although after looking at your blog-I know I have a long way to go to come close to your level of creativity. Is there a place to sign up for your blog-I could not find it.
