If I'm going to convert my SU! wood blocks to acrylic - because they don't stay "sticky" - then I need an adhesive. From what I'm reading, it looks like several have recommended Wacky Tac or Aleen's Tack It Over & Over.

You won't regret converting to acrylic! It was a HUGE step for me, but I won't go back! I did the EZ Mount for the majority of my SU stamps and just recently starting using ATIO&O, after hearing about it on this thread. Good luck!
There are really several options.
If you are converting SU! stamps, you can...
1a. Remove the wood and add Vinyl Cling
1b. Remove the wood and dip the really sticky stuff in Baby Powder so it is no longer permanent. Then use double stick tape on the acrylic block.
2a. Remove both the wood and the cushion and add EZ Mount
2b. Remove both the wood and the cushion and add either the Wacky Tac or Aleen's TIOO directly to the rubber.
2c. Remove both the wood and the cushion and use double stick tape on the acrylic block.
The EZ Mount and the [U]Vinyl[Cling/U] are meant to "cling" to the acrylic block the way that kids window decorations cling. If they should lose their cling over time then either the Wacky Tac or Aleen's TIOO or double stick tape will work.
Is this as clear as mud???
Have a question on 1a. I have removed the stamp fromthe wood base but there is not much adhesive left on the back of the stamp, therefore the vinly cling will not stay on the stamp. How do you get the vinyl cling to attach to the stamp?

That is a surprise. Maybe it's not an SU stamp? Usually they have the stickiest stuff -- really hard to tame.
So to answer your question, you can either...
* get some Marine Goop to adhere the Vinyl Cling to the cushion
or
* skip the Vinyly Cling and put Aleene's TIOO on the cushion
or
* skip the Vinyl Cling and use double stick tape on the acrylic block.
I still recommend using EZ Mount for your unmounted wheels - seems to provide them with extra support and structure IMO. I like the double sided tape or Aleene's Tack it over & over for other stamps though.

Enjoy!
Makes sense to me. Wheels are the one thing I have not unmounted. Fear of making a mess I suppose. But I have a set of four long narrow border stamps. Always have a bit of trouble getting a good image with those. Hope I have one more sheet of EZ Mount in the cupboard.
My original post was only meant to save people the extra time and expense of removing the SU cushion when unmounting their stamps. There were other threads where gals were wondering how on earth to get the cushion off, so I said something like, "Use Vinyl Cling and leave the cushion alone."
Many other stamp companies don't have very good cushion in the first place. If you like to have cushion on your stamps, then EZ Mount is great for those.
I have been surprised by how many other posts have popped up.... don't need any cushion.... don't need any Vinyl Cling.... just use tape....
I have used lots of these other options too, depending on what kind of rubber a stamp is made with. Mostly, if my stamp doesn't already have Vinyl Cling or ATIOO (all the things I tried over the years), then I use cheap double stick tape on the block.
Oh yes... I have one of those quilter's cutting mats on my desk. It's not like thick cushion, but it sure makes some of the old, old hardened stamps work better.
To tell you the truth, my vinyl cling is crapola. It doesn't stick to the acrylic blocks at all. But I don't really care because I just use double stick tape on my acrylic block and it sticks to the vinyl. So even though my actual vinyl is crapola, I really like it because it works so well inconjunction with sticky tape. I have some ezmount also and I LOVE it but I don't like to use it with my SU! sets that already come with cushion. I just use my crapola vinyl and merrily stamp away.
I use my glue sticks. You just rub on very little glue. That's all you need to make it not move on you. place it on the block ink it up and stamp away.
Then I just keep a bowl with warm sudsy water nearby to clean off the ink and glue and then you good to go again.
So much cheaper than the peel and stick foam you don't have to wait for it to come in the mail. You don't have to get that sticky residue on your scissors. Too much effort and time.

For those of you who use the stickiness that's left on the stamp when you UM it, does it bother you that you can't see the image? (clear as mud?)
Thanks,
Nicole
You are right. Clear as mud. I don't quite understand the question.
Only with polymer (clear) stamps can you see the image. With rubber stamps on acrylic blocks, it doesn't matter what you use to stick it to the block -- you can only see the outline.

Yes, I absolutely HAVE to see the image! I have 2 stategies:
Cheapest: Peel the sticker off the top of the stamp, stick it to the sticky cushion and use diluted ATIO&O on top the sticker. I use this method with new SU stamps, too.
Pricier: Stamp your image in black StazOn onto the EZ Mount, peel all the old cushion off and replace w/ EZ mount. I've gotten pretty good at lining them up!
I just unmounted my brushstroke alphabet numbers yesterday and decided to try going to just rubbah for the first time since they are so small. After unmounting I put two numbers together on my acrylic block with Scotch double sided tape, inked and stamped ... PERFECT!

This is what I did. I love being able to see the image.

Oh my goodness! My brain is bursting after reading all of this thread, but what a wealth of information. After reading half-way, I decided to order some vinyl cling to try. It wasn't going too well, but not bad, either. Then I read everything that was said and all of my possible questions have been answered. Thanks to all of you for sharing your thoughts and ideas.
Has anyone ever tried the Aleen's Spritz-On Resposition It Tacky Glue? I went to get the TIOO and I saw the other stuff so I bought a bottle. I was just wondering if anyone else has used it?

This is interesting! Wheels were the FISRT thing I unmounted! I'm looking to start unmounting the rest of my stamps as I use them. I just love the acrylic blocks for placement and really don't have room for all the space that the wood blocks and stamp boxes take up!

I love the black stazon idea. I don't NEED to see the image (I pretty much know what it looks like and the outline really does what I need) but the stazon on the ezmount is a great idea - plus it helps to know where to cut the EZmount!

WoW! That sounds like a lot less mess than smearing on the other stuff with my fingers. I have just ordered several sheets of unmounted stamps (Angi-B is going out of business) -- so I would like to try this new Spritz-On stuff.
I am going to be trying it tonight and I will post how it works. A friend of mine said she saw somewhere in the forums where some have used it before and it works well. I sure hope so, I could just lay out my many stamp sets and spritz them and be done!!!

No, I trim my stamps so VERY close that I can usually tell what's what by the shape of the outline.

I am all for CHEAP. That's the main reason I quit buying EZ-Mount.
With this system do you stamp onto a hard surface or use a cushion of some sort?
Currently, I have a quilters self-healing cutting mat on my desk. But before I bought that, I would just put a stack of maybe 10 sheets of scrap paper under the cardstock. When friends come over to play in my stamp room that's what they do too -- a stack of paper under the cardstock.
I'm sure this is a dumb question, but here goes anyway....
Do you put the AITOO on the back of the stamp or on the acrylic? If on the acrylic, do you wait for it to dry or can you put the stamp on it immediately? Does it even work if you put it on the back of the stamp - directly on the rubber?
Stef - put a VERY thin coat of Tack it over and over on the back of the rubber. Easiest way it to use one of those sponge brushes on a handle. Let it dry, then stick it several times on something like your jeans so it is not quite so sticky. Attach to your acrylic block, stamp, clean and remove. Easy - love it! HTH

I know I'm VERY late in getting in on this conversation, but I recently started to unmount all my WM sets. I find that on the newer sets, the rubber comes right off the foam without any sticky adhesive left behind. On the older sets, they can be a real tacky mess.
Since Stampin Up (SU) came out with the cling mounted sets, I've been buying the empty cases (4 per pack) and putting the unmounted rubber sets in the empty cases. Depending on the size of the sets, I can get 1-4 in a case comfortably. For instance a large alphabet set I only put one set in the container. On the other hand, if I have 2-4 Christmas sets that only have a few stamps per set, I put all the rubber sets in the one case. Then I peel the stickers off the wood blocks, and re-adhere them on typing paper (cut at 5x7) and slide that under the cover of the stamp container. That way, I can see what is in the set. I use my label maker to put the names of the stamps along the side of the stamp container. I put them all in rubbermaid containers and number the containers. Eventually, I'll copy the open cases and put them in a notebook so that when I'm looking for something particular, I can see what the set looks like and what container it is in.
I have a cheap set of acrylic blocks that I bought years ago. I covered them all with Tack N Peel. I will use the UM rubber that isn't tacky on those blocks. I also bought cling mount in a huge roll at: PictureMyStamp.com - Rubber Art Stamp Manufacturer. So, for the rubber that is ultra sticky, I adhere it to the cling foam and will use it with my nice set of acrylic blocks from CTMH or SU.
So far, I have gone through 2 huge boxes of stamps and about 5 rubbermaid containers. By combining several similar sets in one box, I've actually freed up about 3 rubbermaid containers, but have gotten the 2 big boxes out of the way. Before, I couldn't fit the stamps from the 2 boxes in the closet with the other WM sets. Now I have all of them in the closet and still have 3 rubbermaid containers to work with. I have a long way to go (the closet is full!) but I am feeling so excited about the progress and the organization.
Though it's a bit costly now, I won't "have" to mount or unmount again for many years. Oh, and for the ones that have no foam, I use a foam mat that I bought a long time ago ($4 on the See D's website: Rubber Stamps/ Stamps/ SEE D's / Acrylics). That works really well for getting a nice solid stamped image, no matter what size the stamp is.
Hope that helps anyone who may still be searching for ideas to unmount. Have a great night all!

Hey! Any updated info on un-mounting stamps?
Anybody else frustrated with un-stickiness of SU! acrylic mount stamp sets?
Any suggestions on where to get the products?
Thanks!

Reason: spelling, missing info
i use sailors 2-way glue. it's a white liquid that turns clear and tacky on the unmounted stamps. you can find it online. i find it at my local stamp store. it's $7 for one tube. pricey, i know, but it works and it's the ONLY thing i use.
I sure wish I were more comfortable using UM stamps it sure would save me some money on EZ mount. Although I don't get it very expensive to begin with.
But stamps without the Ez mount feel so delicate to me and flimsy. I like the feel of the EZ mount on the stamp it just makes it feel much more sturdier and durable. But that's my personal opinion.
steph108.... if you put a nice cushy (and cheap) mousepad under your paper when stamping... it feels as well as EZ mount. but i understand your feeling. i was the same way for years.
