I have just purchased a Xyron 510. I have seen so many wonderful things that I just had to have one. Now, does anyone have any suggestions on what to do with it? I think I've seen some glitter window type things and others but now that I have it I'm at a loss. Thanks so much!
For starters, you can put adhesive on the back of all the panels you use when layering a card. Next, you now have the ability to make those super skinny strips of paper (used for framing, weaving, fine details) simply by running a piece of CS through the machine and then cutting it in tiny strips with your cutter.
A friend likes to use hers (small sticker machine, but 510 will work) to apply adhesive to strips of raffia which she then uses to make stems on flowers, etc.
I believe the 510 is the machine that allows you to have different cartridges, like the laminating one. I like to laminate recipes, instructions for some stamping techniques, sayings & poems that I want to save and even directions to friends house.
The best advice I have is to get the machine out and using it....you will find that the more you use it, the more ways you think of to use it.
Enjoy this wonderful product!
Thanks for the ideas. I'll have to play around. I don't even know which cartridge it came with. I've seen the beautiful glitter puzzles but I have no idea where to start with those. I will definitely try your ideas. I like the framing idea. I hadn't thought of that.
Hi! You can put adhesive on one side, then turn it over to put adhesive on the other side so you can adhere one side to your project (card, SB page) and add glitter, sand, etc to the other.
Also, the xyron is a great way to add adhesive to vellum.
I've had my 510 for a couple of years now and even gave my best friend one for Chrismas. I'd be lost without it! I do use it mainly to adhere my layers; I know, kinda boring But the technique I love to use it with is ... well, I don't know the name, but
I love to stamp in Staz-on on acetate, then run it through my 510. Peel off the backing and stipple different colors on Pearl Ex on the sticky. OMWord, it's so pretty. Now I've only done this a couple of times, but here's a link to the card that inspired me Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
I have both the 850 and the smallest one, I think it is about 2 inches wide and I love them both.
The 850 which fits 8.5 x 11 size I use to laminate the kids baseball game schedules and other things that get referred to a lot and always wrinkled or torn. When it is laminated, it is much easier to find too in that stack of important papers! I also use it a lot to laminate my inventory booklets that I make for my business.
The smaller one is great for applying lettering to scrapbooks. I use the small square punch and then stamp a title on individual blocks. I then run the little squares through the zyron and apply them right to my scrapbook page.
Here's a cool use for the Xyron -- you can make a "write on / wipe off" board.
Bottom layer : thin cardboard (any size, let's say 8.5 x 11)
Then take an 8.5 x 11 piece of US white, and stamp your picture on it. Best to stamp at the bottom and on the sides, leaving the middle for messages.
Run this piece through the xyron, using the cartridge that laminates on top and puts adhesive on the back.
Adhere this piece to the cardboard.
You can use vis-a-vis markers on these, and the message wipes off with a wet paper towel.
Marcia- I love that card! It is gorgeous! I'm going to have to try that!
Also, I have found that the xyron works great to apply adhesive to the paper that likes to curl (like shaving cream paper, tie-dye paper, etc.). I run all of that through the xyron so that it lays nice and flat on my card!
That's a great idea too! I just bought the thing because of those pretty glitter puzzle cards. I didn't realize how useful it is otherwise! I'm excited to use it now. Thanks! Jen
