I've been thinking for a while now.....about selling 90% of my stamping stuff! I just don't use it. Seems as though all I do is dust it every week.
Have any of you done this? Only kept your favorite stuff???
I'm just so afraid I'll be sorry later.......
What finally made you decide to do it??? Were you ever sorry?
Hi Ink!
About 2 months ago or so I put all of my SU inks and stamps on the bst forum because I have not thought about or touched any of it in I couldn't remember how long. I had been thinking about it for quite some time too and finally decided it was time!! I did keep my markers "just in case" I needed a specific color for something. The majority of my stuff sold or was traded and there was only 1 color that I since wanted to use for a card, but now Gina K sells a color very similar !
If it were me and I was a bit unsure, I would keep my favorites, if there is a time you really want to make something, get more time, etc. you will have them, you can always sell them later!
I have not regretted one thing I have ever sold!
Good luck with your decision!!
I have a rule about how long I can have a new product. If I buy a stamp and don't use it for months, then I probably didn't want that stamp. It's time to trade it for something or move on.....Same goes for most of my other crafty products. If I am not using it and don't have a specific project in mind for it, then it's time to let go. I wish I had a place to sell off my stampin' up sets and get a decent price on them.
Your stamping style and taste has probably changed over time, so take a look at those older items that you have not used in awhile. If you've moved on to other styles, then by all means sell the things that are no longer appealing to you!
sell half of it and see how you feel. i sell stuff all the time and have never regretted it.
This is good advice, Joan! I sold about 1/2 of my SU stamps and punches just a few months ago and haven't regretted it. I agree that our tastes and styles change over time and getting rid of stuff you don't use just makes more room (and money) for other stuff!
It's the best feeling to get rid of the stuff you don't use. Have a box for stuff you haven't used in six months (even 12 months) and pop it in there for sale or trading. If you look at something and say "what was I thinking?" then chances are you won't use it again ;)
My sisters just had a reality check and decided to sell everything! They have given up completely.
I tend to sell stuff routinely. I restrict what I buy to a single storage space, so if I want new stuff I have to sell or use up old stuff. I find that holiday sets get sold most often since I know I won't make cards again with the same images/theme.
I have sold a lot of sets, the only one I re-bought was flaky friends when I decided that I wanted to make my Christmas cards with it (last year). Otherwise, I have been very happy with my decisions.
I would put the stuff you are thinking of selling away for a short period and see how you do without it--maybe a month or something.

I've thought of doing the same thing! Since Papertrey came out with their color line, I find myself reaching for their stuff more and more because they have more coordinated products that I like - the variety of ribbon and the buttons (oh how I LOVE the buttons) and I've thought of selling some of my SU! cardstock, ink and accessories for the colors I no longer use. But, like you, I'm hesitant. We crafters are such hoarders that it's hard to part with anything - even if we aren't using it! LOL

I really like this idea! That's perfect! Put it all in a box, put it in a closet for a month or so and if you don't ever go into the box, sell it all! I think I'm going to do it!

Another thought. . . . . maybe there's a charity you'd like to donate some of your items to?
Two benefits to that approach--you might feel less pangs of regret about things that have gone to a good cause. . . . and you might be able to 'visit' what you donate--say, if you donated it to a nursing home and offered to lead a class there occasionally.
Good luck deciding the best course of action for you!
I've done it several times and never regretted it. There is something very free-ing to get rid of stuff you aren't using. Good luck with your decision!

Do you want to get out of stamping all together or you want to change your style up a bit and get different types of stamps???? I'd say sell if you want different stamps or wait a bit if you're feeling the mojo is gone for good.

This was what I was going to say. I've got a huge box of stamps I need to sell. They've been sitting in the basement for almost two years. It's time. ;)

I would be afraid that I would be sorry after I sold something, unless of course you are very certain that you won't be using it again. I had a thought though, if you are considering selling some of your stamps you could stamp some images for yourself to keep. This way if you ever wanted that image again you would have one.
Getting rid of 90% of your stuff seems like your making a committent to getting out of stamping. If you are ready to do that then go for it. A year ago I sold or gave away probably 20% of my stuff I didn't use or had never used. I haven't regretted it. Now my stamp is organized and I stamp more.
Yes, I just did it. No, I don't regret it. I have a different style now than I did when I first started stamping. Since I decluttered I feel lighter, happier and have a fresher perspective of what I want to do with my work. It's the best thing I have ever done for myself crafting.
My DS left home last month and moved pretty much out of State. He was taught at home and there was so much redundancy in supplies in our home. I had a lot of "I will get around to it" projects also.
When you teach at home you really don't get around to it, lol.
Once he left I was like "Yeah! I can do my projects now. ;) Looked at them had no interest. Looked at all my supplies and had no interest.
I got rid of so many stamps that I was going to use for baby cards, gifts, scenes, etc... I kept only my favorites. I have even bought some new ones that represent my style not who I will make gifts for.
I had to pack up my stamping stuff because we are moving and I just kept what I could fit in my crop n style tote plus my cardstock rolling file. I am still stamping and enjoying having less.
I've been thinking of doing the same thing - recently sold some at a garage sale and had no regrets so I think I'm ready to sell some more. I like the advice to sell a little at a time.
90% sounds like such a commitment. Is it the clutter or the hobby you're tired of? Maybe both?
When I thought I had too much stuff, the first thing I did was unmount, and that helped. For me, it was a storage issue. But I still like to make cards.
I still routinely slough off stuff I don't use. I give it to the a # of places besides Salvation Army and Goodwill; they include: the art dept. at my kid's school; the homeless shelter art dept.; mothers w/small children, girls in my neighborhood and, believe it or not, my LSS.
Honestly, I do occasionally I wish I had something back, but I don't dwell on it. I figure if it keeps coming up, I'll buy it again someday. The fact is that I enjoy NOT having so much stuff around (and I don't even dust it).
Good luck with your decision; I wish you no regrets!
I make a point of purging/selling items from my craft room almost every quarter. Great way to get $$ for the stuff that is calling your name. Although, I have squirreled away a few stamp sets that I love, but haven't used in ages. Sometimes it is a matter of simply letting go.

Hmmm.....definitly the clutter. Drives me nuts. I'm not really tired of stamping, I think I am just no longer excited about most of the stuff I have. I think I am going to get rid of quite a bit and see how I feel. I get my stuff out to stamp, then find myself just sitting there wondering what in the world to do. Very frustrating.
