PLEASE When you shop on line ALWAYS log out as soon as you finish.!!
I went to a "very reliable site" where many here shop, but I had never ordered from her. I also had never registered on her site.
I noticed a lot of things in "MY Cart" I was bewildered by this so I clicked on "MY Account" and there was a woman's Name--address- telephone number- birthdate and email address
:shock::shock:
Imagine what a person with sinister intentions could do with that information!
I tried to delete the information but was unable to do so . Then I noticed the woman was still logged in so I logged " her" out to get rid of the information for now.
I notified the person who owns the site
Please LOG OUT or others can see your information.

I was alarmed too!
I received two replies from the site owner and her Web guy is investigating this to correct it .
I am sure he will solve it .
I didn't want to put my credit card on line so I have ordered a couple of things inthe past from this business by sending an email and mailing a check . The owner is reliable it is not an "iffy" site .
I use a Mac with a very tight anti-virus and spyware program that updates every day. In fact it is such a high powered anti-virus/anti-spyware program that it slows my computer a bit , but I am OK with that. Better safe than sorry.
Just Log out before you leave a site !
I will not name the company because I know she is a reliable business woman. Although I have never ordered on-line from her I have purchased a few things by sending an email to order and then paid with a check. I never had any problems with her.
Further more I have never read one negative thing about doing business with her .
I just want people to be aware they need to log out of a site before they leave it .
We've all become so comfortable just clicking around on the computer I think sometimes we forget how cautious we have to really be! Even with a completely reliable company/business crazy things can happen. My IT Dept calls these "hiccups".
I have noticed that when shopping online, if you pay via paypal on many sites, after the purchase is complete, you need to go back into paypal to logoff. The sites where you purchase do not automatically log you out of paypal after the sale is complete.
WOW! This is good to know! And thanks Glenda for your advise about PayPal -I never go back into it and log off!!
And thank you for not mentioning the company name. I have no idea who it is, but it's not relevant to your cautionary tale. I am glad she took immediate action with her computer person and I am sure she very much appreciated your bringing this to her attention.
Wow, that's amazing. I never knew that could happen.
I do know that if you put your contact info in on a form like for a store's email list, it can sometimes come up on google. Once I came across a list of names, addys, phone #s, etc. of all the people of a store's contact list. I was shocked.
And....please be careful when posting a link to a site you shop on. A fellow SCS'r (and good friend thank goodness!!!) and I were sending each other links to stamps we were thinking about purchasing. She clicked on a link I sent her, found some things she wanted to purchase and started adding them to her cart. Well....guess what. Since I had not signed out before I sent her the link, she was actually adding stuff to MY CART! Had I posted that in a public place, the next person to click that link could have added anything they wanted to my cart and charged it all to my credit card! YIKES!!!!

Another suggestion for sites that do not take Paypal... never have them store your credit card info for you. I always enter it when I order.
Rather than entering it each time I use a debit card which I leave no money in unless I am wanting to purchase something with paypal. So all I do before I pay on the card and pay
When you Google your name and see how many places you're listed, you can't do much about it. But one place you can go is Spokeo People Search | White Pages | Find People and remove yourself there. You'll be amazed at what they have!!
Another good practice is to click on your browser "Home" page button when you are done. This will often break any links that may be existing. I find sometimes when I get kicked out of my webmail account...if I hit the back button I can get right back in without logging in. I now go "Home" every time before I close the browser window.
