Why is that when my stamping room/ office is clean and I can actually walk through it, it mysteriously turns into a disaster less than 24 hours later? I spent an entire day cleaning it, and it now looks worse than ever. I need some serious organizational training. LOL
I know what you mean! Mine is somewhat clean right now but, I've come to realize in the last few months that the reason it doesn't stay that way and the reason it still stresses me out a little is because too many things don't have permanent homes. I can't tell you how many times I've had to search for more than 15 minutes for my eyelet setter.
I'm thinking of having a professional organizer tackle my craft room! i wonder how much it would cost???
It's the gnomes. They sneak into my stamp room and mess it up too.
Darn little gnomes, their in my stamping room all the time and I hate those little creatures. Their creepy ugly mess makers for sure!
I'm sure glad I'm not the only one and I work so hard at keeping it neat or trying to! Funstamper, that isn't my problem because they do have permanent homes, they just don't stay home!
I hear you sisters!! I get it all organized, cleaned and tucked away and then this 13 year old daughter I have decides she wants to stamp...EVERYTIME it happens...
But they are only young for a short time...
I just spent 5 hours cleaning my mess so that I could make room to stamp! I think in all seriousness that the key is to put everything away when you are done (kind of like kindergarten) and to put everything in the same place.
So, I have a drawer for all my adhesives. Couldn't find my mono adhesive this morning, thus the cleaning binge. It was buried under 6 inches of stuff. Stamps, paper, ribbons, patterns, SU customer order paperwork, eyelets stuff, etc.
So, now it is clean. I hope I can pay attention to my own rules. I mean I know what I'm supposed to do, it's the doing that is the problem (and I nag my son???)

LOL I know exactly what you mean! I *try* really hard to keep up with myself, but when the juices get flowing, it's hard to remember to take the extra second to put stuff away. But when everything has a place, it really does help! I hate it when DH borrows a ruler. I know I have 3, but they are all for different things
If it were picked up, I wouldn't know where to find anything! I could deal with the gnomes coming to my house, but the cherished children need to stay away! ;-)
Oh my gosh, are you all related to me or what. I really think I could make a card in 10 minuites if I could find what I am looking for. I spend 90 percent of my time trying to find something. Heck, I have even made a card and lost it! Can anyone send us help????
When I am stamping cards, my stamping area is a real mess but when you are through stamping, put everything away in the proper place. Since I many Senior Moments, I have labelled my draws alphabetically so I can find things. (Think I am a neat freak married to another neat freak.) It does take a little time to set-up everything but in the end, you don't waste time or get frustrated trying to find something and it does help with clean-up.
.........I'm thinking of having a professional organizer tackle my craft room! i wonder how much it would cost???
LOL, I was just asking my 13 y.o. son tonite when the cleaning lady was coming to clean my room. Then he reminded me that we don't have one.....dang it.
I don't know a single stamper/crafter who manages to keep their work area tidy. What annoys me is it can take me like 5 hours to tidy (which could have been 5 hours stamping :( ) but just 30 minutes to make it look like a disaster zone again! Despite having permanent homes my glue rubber, ruler and embossing tool always seem to be missing just when I need them!
Gnomes?! Could it be? Can they travel accross seas? My stamping room is a desaster area, and all of my friends and especially my fiances relatives know that they should NOT open that door! I can keep every other place in the house tidy, but.. And I know mostly it is beacause I dont have "proper places" for everything, I have tryied to make some, but Im just clueless when it come to that room. AND when by miracle it hapens to bee somewhat tidy, I go in and puff, its a mess again. Eaven if I wonder to kitchen table to do a litle thing, every inch of the table is covered whith stuff. I used to work as a head of warehouse and I organized that, how can it be so hard to do the same in my room.. Im so happy to hear Im not the only one
I have figured out the my cat (cats when there were more than one) is inviting other neighborhood cats over while we are not there. Somedays they stamp - I know because my stamp stuff seems to all over the place. They NEVER clean up after themselves!
In the summer, they have cocktail parties out in the back yard and swim in the pool.

We never seem to catch them in the act though.
Your imagination is getting to wild and you are banned from watching TV for a month! That commercial where the cats are having a party is so cute...but it's just make believe! LOL!
Thanks for the laugh anyway!
My room is seriously scary right now, but I'm in the process of trying to clean/organize. Part of my problem is I have stuff from so many different crafts, not just stamping. Let me tell you, molds for soap and candle making take a LOT of space!!
Anyway, I picked up a cool hint from another board and am planning to use it when I finally my space under control: This lady purchased one of those small, foldable craft tables (roughly 2 ft x 3 ft, about $35) and works on that. She had all her shelves, cabinets, and a 6 foot table as well, but those are all "permanently" organized or for long-term projects, and this small table is for throwing together a quick card. And she doesn't leave this table up, so everything has to be put away. I'm not sure whether I have the self-discipline to make this work, but I thought it was a pretty good idea.
I am laughing out loud - along with many of you about this very topic. No other room in my house looks in such disarray. BUT....creativity doesn't grow in a neat and uncluttered environment. So I'm told! It's amazing that I have an 8 foot table to do my stamping, but I can only access enough space for an 8.5x11 sheet of card stock.....and sometimes not even that much. Wouldn't it be fun to have the makover people come in and "fix" the mess? But I bet it would only be a day and we'd be right back in the clutter we love so much. So let's just "live" with it.
I think my problem is that I have soooooo much stuff that isn't stamp related in that room too. Anything that I don't want my 2-yr old to get into goes in there. So, I have all of my stamping supplies, china, DVD's and CD's, Videos, Cameras and camcorders. Then I have room for me and a sheet of paper. I have an L
shaped desk and one side has my computer/printer and the other is where I do my stamping. Unfortuately, my stamping takes over both parts, and it is all down hill from there. My room was once a sunroom, so it is mostly windows and there isn't a lot of wall space for storage, which causes a problem.
I did just get my knobbly gnomes set in my last order AND I think that is when it got worse. Hmmmmmm there could be something to this gnome thing afterall.
OK, After I postedmy last message, I was inspired. I am going to clean and organize my room. I will take pics and upload for you all to see. Maybe if I have people asking me how it's coming it will keep me motivated!!!!! OK, Here I go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!! :p
I firmly believe that their is nothing wrong with a messy stamp room -- everytime I clean my up, it reverts to its natural state in about 24 hours - but I find I am much more creative the bigger the mess --- I use to work with a guy who's office would make the people on Clean Sweep cry -- there was paper and books everywhere, piled 2 feet deep on top of the desk - but if you asked him for anything he'd just pull it right out! Behind his desk he has a sign that said "Chaos is a sign of genius" and he was a mathematical genius --- so if figure my chaos is a sign of my creative genius. I've never created anything good when things were nice and neat!

NO NO CLEAN SWEEP - I love that show but will never let them in my house. I'm not a 'neat freak' but my craft stuff (for many crafts) has to be organized or I get very frustrated with myself - & that's no fun! I make myself put things away when a particular project, card, etc is done. After another effort to organize with what I had, I went to Joanne's & bought some cute baskets with flippy lids that stack & a 10-drawer iris card (from Staples, $34.94) & spent last Sunday reorganizing some things. Much better! Also invested (50%) in an 18x22" cutting mat (Joanne's) & put in on the table top to 'define' my work space. It was in the sewing section. Gives me a smooth surface & is keeping other stuff from creeping into this space. Seems to be working for now {:-)

My photos are filed and put in a "safe" photo-storage container. They used to be in a wicker basket. My hubby bought the supplies to make my "ink pad storage HEAVEN". It is going to have ribbon storage, storage for my ink pads, storage for all of my colorants, stampin' scrub, magazines/books, xyron, sizzix, EVERYTHING. I designed it and he figured out the "correct measurement". I cannot wait for it to be done!! I'll post pics when there is something to show! WOOHOO!

ooh! yeah be sure to post pics when this is done! I'd love to see it. I had to laugh at this thread. I just finished a project and made DH come see my mess! he just laughed at me. there was paper, tools, and stamps everywhere! I was thinking maybe I'd try to organize my craft room a little more tonight too.
