I just signed up too! I'm sooo excited! I signed up on Tuesday and was wondering if it is taking awhile to get the shipment since they are probably quite busy. Been stamping for 5 years and am a die hard Stampin up fan! I absolutely love how everything matches! So, if I wait until December 1st, I can still get the holiday mini stuff, new mini stuff and buy the SAB items right and get 30% off?
CKmom, isuanastasia: The general rule of thumb is you need to sell 5 of any stamp set to have it pay for itself. However, as you think about the stamp sets you want, you have to think about what you'll be comfortable using and creating cards for. In the beginning it may be hard to feel inspired to create with a set you may not really care for!
Just remember, you have the flexibility to make the business fit you and your life! I've been a demo for six years now and have never looked back!
tricia2354 - I just moved to a new area a year ago and decided this fall to make the jump from hobby demo to business demo. I'm using craig's list to list classes and will be using the "bring a friend and get $x off the stamp class" approach. You will need to rely on people to bring friends to build a base. We have a 40 guests worksheet that we give hostesses...But I use it for myself too! Local coffee shops or other shops will help you out and let you post flyers. Plus, your upline group can be a great foundation for you! Check with the demo you sign up with to see if the local group holds monthly/quarterly meetings.
Congrats and good luck to all those signing up! It's such a great deal!!
(plus, you get to order those mini products early!)

Thanks so much everyone for your input!! I am almost sold on doing it. I do tend to get frustrated trying to figure techi things out, buuut being able to resize, etc. would be great. No messy cards from dropping the stamp on there, or smearing the ink! That's a plus! I've been watching several videos on the MDS. Oh, what does IDA mean? I s'pose it is something simple, but I can't think of it. Thanks Again!!

I just talked to a demonstrator in my area and will get more information this weekend. I have a FT job and just not so sure if I can meet my quota but would love to get the deals. Also, I am not the type of person who likes to PUSH ppl to buy stuff (because I hated when ppl do that to me) and so not so sure if I will be successful @ doing this. I don’t mind just doing small workshop here and there and charge minimal fees so ppl can learn more about it, yet finding a place to host is hard too….
But thanks for all the feedbacks on this forum, it’s very helpful since I am a newbie here!
I just signed up tonight! I did it because of the great price! I can't wait to get my box! Also, how long does it usually take to get signed up for the Demo side of SCS? I just joined the demo group tonight, but I am still pending approval. I hope it's not long!
ANother new demo here! I wanted to see the demo forum here so I went to my profile and asked to be added. How long does it take (it has been two days)? Should I ask again? Where is that forum listed? Many thanks to everyone here!

I believe it stands for Independent Demonstrator Agreement or something along those lines.

Congrats and welcome! I can't remember how long it took for me but I think it was a couple of days...they may be swamped with requests too, due to the special!
And for the poster who asked about the IDA, it is the Independent Demonstrator Agreement. Basically it's SU's set of rules for demos.
Congrats to all who signed up! The only thing that keeps me from doing it is that you have to spend or sell $300 a quarter. Although I love SU, that is not in my budget. I belong to a stamp club and I spend about $35 - 50 a month.

I fairly sure it's $240.00 each quarter with the 20% off we will get. That is then only $75.00 a month. I probably won't order after my initial order of 30% but who knows?

ME!! I just found out yesterday, and I'm so excited. My friend is my demo, and she and I are making a deal so that I can get some things I need and trade out some of my kit to her. She's so sweet that way! I didn't even think about SAB previews and such. Good timing for that!

That's what they all say....bwahhhahhahha (like my evil laugh?). :-)
It is $240 with the discount (although you still do have to pay shipping and handling and tax so it will end up being a bit more....being a demo has often been likened to getting the S&H and tax free, make sense?). I have no problem meeting it on my own but have quite a bit of expendable income and buy more than the average person I would imagine. Even just a few customers can help out though...I don't have many but when they order it bumps me up pretty quick.
If you sell enough, SU gives you even more money....it's called a volume rebate and gets deposited depending on your sales...I've hit this level on my own before (let's not go there though, lol). Just wanted to note that there is potential to make more than just the 20%.
Hope you all have fun with your starter kit toys! I have a box of goodies coming on Monday....although I'm sad I won't have it over the weekend!
I'm also thinking of signing up. Re the stamp sets, if I wanted to swith the stamps, can I just choose another stamp set as long as it's the same or lower price? Do I have to get 3 wood mount sets and 1 clear mount set, or can I get all clear mount sets? If I can get all clear mount sets, the same rule applies (same price or lower)?
I signed up 5 years ago just for the kit and am still a demo! LOL It is fun and I have a couple of customers that help with minimums and I do a class a quarter and that's it. It doesn't have to be a full time commitment!

Thanks for your help.
You can choose wood or clear mount (or a mix) as long as each set on that line is the same price or lower than the price shown on the starter kit form.
Im a little confused on something so bear with me haha. I know that if I sign up now, I will be able to order from the new mini catalog starting december 1st. Will I also be able to receive the sale-a-bration benefits (spend $50 get a free stamp set) or get items out of the sale-a-bration catalog starting the 1st as well? Just need some clarification!

No, we can purchase the Sale-a-Bration items if we choose, but we can't earn them free until the SAB period begins January 25.
And also the 30% is on a "workshop" size order at $150. I gotta tell ya though, there is rarely a time when I and a lot of demos don't order...kind of the magic number to get the freebees:-) I'm off to do just that...I've had an order sitting there forever, I need to pull the trigger, hehe!
Your first order (even if it's just a small one) will earn the 30%. Not the first workshop... just thought I should clarify that before it's too late.

Yup, what GreenDragonLady said...you can put in smaller ones and just get your 20...the first one in that time period to reach 150 gets the 30. I thought it was the first order, period, too when I signed up though.
It is the first order of $150. My first order was from an open house IO held, over $1000 in sales of which I got 30% plus the volume rebate, plus the free hostess sets and free merchandise. I love being a SU! demo!!!! Congrats to all who have signed up during this fantastic special promo.

I signed up during SAB and got TONS of SAB goodies with my first order, in addition to the 30% off.
Run the numbers for yourself. If you want a lot of SAB items and are going to place a large 30% order (your first order over $150 within 45 days of signing up), then it may pay to wait until you can place your 30% order during SAB.
Especially now that there are lots of stamp sets that are in the Idea Book & Catalog available as SAB freebies, it may very well pay for some of you (those who are going to place large 30% off orders) to wait and sign up so you can place that first big order during SAB. Yes, you'll miss out on this recruiting promo, but you will more than make up for it with free SAB items during SAB.
I'm not discouraging anyone from eventually signing up, just suggesting you check your numbers before you take the leap.

So, if I sign up during November, I can't use my 30% purchase for SAB?
When does SAB run?
And what are the advantages of SAB?
Thanks!
No, because the 45 days would be up before SAB begins, so you wouldn't be able to choose any free products from the SAB brochure. However, you could decide to purchase some SAB selections beginning December 1 if you'd like.
SAB runs January 25, 2011 through March 31, 2011.
For every $50 a customer purchases (or commissionable items demonstrators purchase) they can choose a free item from the SAB brochure. A hostess with a workshop of $300 or more can choose a selection. There is also a different signup special.
Ok, thanks to all of you "seasoned"demos for our answers to all of our questions. I have one more. what if you spend $400 one quarter, does $100 of it carry over to the next quarter? My order is coming Monday, can't wait!

Not normally. The only time there's any "carry over" is your first "partial" quarter...whatever you sell (or buy) in the first partial quarter of your demoship counts towards your first full quarter's minimums. Other than that, whatever you sell in the quarterly period counts towards the period in which it was sold.
