This writer feels that papercrafting is for "white trash" women and one of the commenters says that "scrapbooking is NASCAR for fat women"! I was appalled!
ok, the cracks on martha were funny, but really, WHERE is this person shopping to see pipecleaners, stryfoam balls, etc. in scrapbooking stores? Obiviously it is "Kindergarten scrap art" or somewhere along those lines, i use that stuff in my classroom, but not my scrapbooks, and EXCUSE ME but I would rather spend my time paper crafting and preserving memories than bashing others on a blog in order to make myself feel better or because of jealously.
p.s.-- i am fluffy and white--- but not into nascar

Well see, it goes to show how little they know. I don't even watch NASCAR!!!
Seriously, some people can be so mislead and/or narrow-minded.

Personally I think "W.T." is one of the worst things you can call someone. No one is "trash." I never heard it in my life until recently. yuk! :(
Maybe I've been one sheltered girl .....
Ok I have to admit after reading that I was pretty ticked off. I am not at all white trash nor is any of my family. EVERYONE on this site has a very hard job. From SAHM's (I know is the hardest job ever since I was one for 7 years) to teachers, and every other job there is. I was really ticked off until I read some of your ladies posts and realized who cares what they think of us? We are what we want to be. We appreciate each other and support each other. As always ya'll rock!
Uhhh, I actually thought the Gawker commentors were pretty funny. I was laughing and laughing while reading these comments from people from the opposite point of the hobby universe.
Wow... I just found this thread......... makes me wonder if the craft business is so " white trashy" and "dowdy"..... WHY is Miss Martha trying to get her foot in the door??????? Money maybe???????? Personally I don't like Martha Stewart.... what makes her so special?????
God bless

I would have to think that there are quite a few of the "dowdies" laughing all the way to the bank at the prospect of this.
If anyone has ever read the Introduction to a book by Creating Keepsakes called The Encyclopedia of Scrapbooking, it details the history of the craft and how it has been documented since the early 1800's. It mentions the likes of Thomas Jefferson, Mark Twain, Queens and dignitaries who were all avid scrapbookers--were they the "white trash dowdy" group of their generation(s)?
I would have to think that the article was written by someone who didn't hold true the basic values that most scrapbookers live by--time well-spent with loved ones--which in turn, create photo opportunities and the very reason we document them.
Being true to my community of crafters, I will simply add this unfortunate person to my prayer list and hope that he/she soon discovers the simple pleasures in life.
Very well said!!!!! I along with you think the person who did the article did NO research at all...... makes it sad to see someone talk about something they know absolutely nothing about....
God bless

My DH is a retired professional, very professional and appreciates and encourages my hobby. I am retired from working with special ed kids. Have college degree, which doesn't matter to art. Ah, bah and humbug. Hope they're jealous.

After all we do have brands in scrapbooking and I can name several right off the top of my head. EK Success, Ellison, Fiskars, Creative Memories, Stamping Up, K & Co, Xyron, and Memory Makers just to name a few. Also as for scrapbooking not being a very sexy industry where does someone writing for a buisness paper get off from publishing that kind of quote. I mean seriously I don't think buisness is very sexy either. My business sterotype is fat old guys in suits.
Ya know I just got in from stampin pretty flowers on the old toilet and washing machine in my front yard and read this....I am so offended...lol..not....more stamps for me!

OMG ROTFLMAO, I have to go to bed-my DH will wonder why I let out a few giggles as I remember this whole thread. You guys are on a roll now.
I just have one question .... since when is Martha Stewart sexy? Eeeww. I suppose by the new definition of sexy (highly appealing or interesting; attractive) some of her products might be considered sexy but it didn't strike me that was the way the blogger meant it.
I'm certainly not overcome my Martha's line at Michael's. Don't get me wrong, some of it's ok, and she has some unusual things that aren't traditionally what I would have considered paper crafting but there's nothing in her line that was a "I have to have it" item for me.

Oh man LMBO at this...sitting in a room by myself giggling. You need to make a regular column...too funny
The other article (link was at the bottom of the page) calls papercrafts "dowdy." Just wait till I get my hands on these guys! I guess I could tell them a thing or two.....
.................
Better to SHOW them a thing or two!

OH MY!!!!!! I totally had to read this to dh "in character" of course!!!! ;) Thanks for making us laugh!!!!
The truth is this craft brings me joy. When I am creating something pretty, I can feel God smiling over me. I love the process of picking out colors and designing a layout and choosing what stamps to use. It makes me feel like an artist even though I may not be one.
