I have several long-distance customers who seem to share your philosophy!
On the other hand, with an order/wish list that large you really ought to at least consider becomig a demonstrator and getting a discount on your goodies!

Have to agree with Colleen here. As a demonstrator, I get to "justify" at least four orders a year like that AND I get the discount! :p Tee hee hee!
OMG, isn't that the truth! After complaining first about nothing special to order, I stopped adding after I past $500 on my wishlist. Yup, considering becoming a demo just so I can have the discount!

That's what I did, I was spending the quarterly minimum anyway so why not join. :-)

What is the quarterly minimum? I'm considering rejoining. If I join in this quarter, will I still have a grace period like before? (Like will I have till Oct or Dec?) I'm also thinking of a big order...

Me too----as in me too wants to know---what are the details to being a demonstrator---how much do I have to spend a quarter or is it a year? And is that the listed catalog price or the discounted price. And what if I only want to be my own customer and perhaps a family member or two--never want to sell, never want to hold classes, etc. Just want it for the discounts and opportunities to get special things. Can you order the sets in the front (ha ha--forgot the name---you know Level 1 and 2 etc--without spending that whole amount, etc. Please tell me more. I have a HUGE order out of the catalog and want to know if I should just suck it up and join. I can't afford a ton all of the time though so that part worries me. Thanks in advance!!

There are so many reasons why it might make sense for you, so i put my answers in red above, hope that helps!

The quota is $300 per quarter. If you joined now, you would have until December 31 to meet the first minimum.
also, your first order over $150 within 45 days of joining is 30% off instead of the standard 20%.

The "real" minimum with discount is $240 but that doesn't include tax or shipping so it is around $300 with that so it's like getting free tax and shipping.
You can't get the hostess sets unless you "earn" them now, only during the pre-order for the new catalog the month before it comes out. We also can't buy mini hostess sets, must earn them (so not a problem, lol).
You do NOT have to do any classes or anything if you don't want to. There are tons who only sell to themselves. I have a couple of customers, always looking for more and I do a class now and then when I have time. Hope that helps!

I'm my own party....often! My demo has told me for years that I need to become a demo myself. If I do, I won't be able to upload pictures on SCS or a blog using any other products besides SU, right?
I guess I've hesistated because I don't want to sell to my friends. No one, besides my mom (lovingzinnias on SCS), seems to have an interest like I do....at least they aren't willing to lay down cash for this craft. I fell in love with it at the very first party I went to. It's my obsession, passion, and therapy all rolled in to one. I get to do something totally fun and creative. I also get to share that on this site by looking, talking, gawking, obsessing, etc. about mine and everyone elses work. Then I get to give my creation to someone else and make them happy...even though they probably have no idea how much time and money went in to it. LOL
I could make the quota on my own, but I'm afraid I would feel restricted. Anyone else like that? Is the discount worth it? I don't want to be a thread stealer, but would love to know what your thoughts are.

NO, NOT TRUE AT ALL! You can still totally upload things with other products. I don't use other products simply because I limit by budget to just SU or I'd be flat broke, lol! BUT you can still do it. The thing that you can NOT do is go on and on about how great XYZ product is and then post a link to a site where you can buy it (any place with a shopping cart).
So for example you can't list the products and then say "OMG product XYZ is amazing and you can find it here *insert shopping link*."
That make any sense? People went way overboard with the whole IDA thing and didn't take the time to really sort it out. If you are spending the minimums anyway it just makes sense to get the discount and you never know when you might find a customer. I don't have many but always on the lookout. I love having the website and the monthly magazine and stuff too. You can do it as a hobby or make something of it, it's up to you!

The quarterly minimum is $300 (that is the merchandise total - so with your discount, it is $240 plus tax and shipping). I believe that you do not have to meet your quarterly minimum until the first FULL quarter. So if you joined today, since the quarter just started July 1, you would have until the end of the next quarter (Dec) to meet your quarterly minimum. If this information is wrong, then I do hope that someone more knowledgeable than I will correct me!
Right now, SU! has a re-sign up offer for former demos (since you are considering RE-joining, I am assuming you are a former demo!) for $35 for the month of July. That is a great deal! You may already know this, but I just thought I'd let you know, just in case.;)

I, too, spend the majority (95%) of my crafting money (I don't call it a budget...what's a budget, right?!) with SU, but want to be able to buy and use other products as well. So you're saying that I could make a card with a SU stamp set, add ribbon from the $1 bin at Michaels, and upload it here. I could give credit in the description to the maker of the ribbon, just not gush about how wonderful it is and add a link where someone could buy it. In other words, don't sell another company's product for them. That makes sense to me and sounds like no big deal at all. I just want to be able to use what I want and give credit for it. BUT...what if I wanted to use a stamp set that wasn't SU?

Okay, so far so good....what about retired sets? Can I only use current SU inventory or can I keep my huge stash that I've hoarded so lovingly through the years? I think it would have to be yanked from my cold dead hands before I could give it up!

You're much more disciplined than I could ever be....waiting is NOT an option for me! LOL And if I do become a demo, it won't take me until Dec. to make the quota either!!
Leisa,
I had exactly the same concerns as you. I did the math and it just made sense for me to join as long as I wasn't restricted with my creativity. I don't really have a circle of people who share this same interest so I probably won't have many buying from me, other than dear ole Mom.
I made the decision on the last day of the $99 offer (June 30th). I have not looked at the $179 offer, but at least for me, the $99 offer had mostly items that I thought I would want anyway, so I did not consider that to be a waste at all. My grace period was reduced for that decsion but I was going to order right away anyway.
Best news is that I've finally stopped griping about the paper prices. It is such a relief to know I can get them at a discount. The first order you get 30% off which was totally awesome! Also, I love getting all the inside news and the opportunity to pre-order.
I will never part with any of my stamps. I love them too much. However, if I decide to get more in a sales mode, then it really would make sense to only use the products that are currently available. It would just be too mean to create a great project using old products and then turn around and tell someone that they can't order those products.

I'm in the same boat. I thought I wouldn't NEED all the new colors, but I do. I really DO! LOL Now that I've seen them in person, I want them ALL. My order is growing in my head every moment. I love the embossing templates, brads, and buttons, too. But the majority of my list is ribbon, ribbon, and more ribbon. Love it! I must have it in all the new colors, don't you agree? I know, I know, it's a disease.
Thanks for all the advice everyone. I appreciate it. Y'all are the best!

My kind of disease!! I think it's contagious!
BTW - thanks everyone for answering my consultant questions. I knew about the $35 for rejoining. It's been so long since I've been a demo, I have been wavering between the $35 and a big order @ 30% off, or just getting a kit and then doing an average order.
Any ideas if ther will be a sign up special announced at convention? (Another reason why I want to resign - I'm missing convention terribly!!)
I have been thinking about joining also. I have ordered from the same consultant for about four years and have many many dollars in SU stuff. I usually place three or four "party size" orders each year along with a certain dollar amount from our monthly club meetings. If you join do you join under your current demonstrator? Does she get any benefit from any purchases I would make? My demo is so great that I don't want to take away from her "income" by signing up to be a hobby demo.

Yes, Stampin' Up! will send her a percentage of your total sales (including what you purchase) each month, provided she meets her own sales goals for her level.
I totally understand your pain!! I just had a "book" party that included just my mom, my sister and 2 friends. My order alone was almost $300!! I had a $600 "party" and was able to get the hostess sets I wanted as well! There is still about $200 more in things that I'd like, but I thought I'd wait and see what the Holiday mini brings before I shoot my whole wad at one time! My husband is going to die when he sees all that I've ordered! I'm hoping that Mr. Brown comes when he's at work!
