So I was poking around Youtube looking at scraproom tours when I happened on one that I fell in love with. Gorgeous cabinets, countertops and light fixtures and this amazing man with a very sweet heart.
His name is Richard Garay...he was so charming I decided to see if he had a blog...uh yeah! He's the co-founder and president of Fun Stamper's Journey! Had no idea! He has a great wife and four boys so lots of creative inspiration there.
Just had to share just how far out of the loop I am! Hahaha

Reason: word prediction typos!!! sheesh!
OMG did you see what he just did with the CD case??
It is shown at 1:01 to 1:03
He put a stamp on one side of a CD case --Inked it and then closed the lid to left to stamp it like the method used with a MISTI
I just tried it with a SU DVD case and cling mounted stamp and it works
You can re-ink and re-stamp as often as you want and the stamp stays in the same place. I used a little scotch tape to keep the paper from moving which worked better than two magnets

Love it!

I tried a SU DVD case because it is flexible plastic and I can press down on it . I have some hard plastic DVd cases but I have not tried those.
I just tried a Justrite background stamp and I needed to put in a couple of chipboard shims under the CS to make it work. The DVD case is too deep for the stamp to connect with the paper as the lid is closed .
I have not tried a polymer stamp but I suspect I will need a piece or two of fun foam under the CS as a cushion AND to raise the CS so the stamp connects with the it .
Hu-m-m-m

sorry to tell you, but that is not a CD case; it is a Spellbinders embossing folder. They are white plastic, and he was inking it up so that the embossed design would stand out more. (I know everyone gets excited when they see a way to make something like Misti for cheap, but in this case, that's not it.)

Really! Are they a new design for Spellbinder embossing folders ? Because I have 6 of them and they are white plastic but mine have embossed patterns on both sides of the white plastic. That looked smooth. I will need to check the Spellbinder site to see the newer ones

Barbara Jay - looking at it again, I think it is an embossing folder - if you look closely and fast, you can see the negative of the stamped pattern on the other side of the folder while he's inking it.
That being said, it doesn't matter It's still awesome that you found out that the dvd cases seem to work pretty well as a MISTI substitute - and I have a couple of the old-style cd cases that I used to use to store my stamps in. I think those are just a bit thinner than the SU cases and I'm going to give them a try tonight.
Not that I don't think the MISTI is an awesome tool; I plan on ordering one. But I think something just a bit more portable that I'm not going to feel bad if I leave it somewhere is rather appealing!
It IS a new embossing folder idea from Spellbinders. It is part of an entire collection designed by Richard Garay Called Celebrations . I found this video on Youtube .
Right now it looks like the only EF in this collection is the doily one he used in the video ,
Now I need to see if Cut At Home is the only place selling the Celebration doily EF . I really like that one

I am kinda grinning because I have been stamping so long that is what everyone did with unmounted stamps before their were clear blocks and misti's and such.
( by unmounted I mean not on a wood block)
gonna go hunt down his room though you guys have made me curious.
I don't understand, can someone please help me out a little???
Is Celebrations and Fun Stampers Journey one company or two separate companies??
Is the Celebrations product sold in the Fun Stampers Journey catalog??
Color me confused.

Celebra'tions is a Spellbinders brand for dies, inks, etc. sold in online & retail markets.
So then Richard has 2 lines going? One for Spellbinders and one his own, Is that right??
Thanks

Richard still designs products that are sold retail as Spellbinders. At the same time, he heads upFun Stampers Journey, which is demonstrator-only FSJ items made by Spellbinders. ETA: Spellbinders and FSJ are connected.

Thank You So Much!:p

This DVD case idea will do in a pinch, but I think the MISTI will be less rigamarole .
I have a MISTI on order
If I hadn't already gotten my MISTI, I would definitely be trying out the CD case technique that Richard showed in the video. It is the same premises as the MISTI.

I saw his room months ago. It's so dreamy and wonderful and lovely.
I found one of his dies on clearance at Tuesday morning - it does cut great but the flower has a weird line through it. Never thought of you tubing it and seeing how people design with it this thread reminded me to look it up
