Default who has does a card ministry?

I am looking for other people that are working on organizing a card ministry at their church. I have been sending bday cards to our church memebers for a few years now and have been holding classes once a month for almost one year. I am looking for a group of women that do similar things at their church and would be interested in sharing ideas and such.

Would anyone be interested in being a part of a yahoo group to deal with the ins and outs of doing a card ministry? A place to share ideas and such just for those of us that organize it? I often lose threads or forget about them on here so a yahoo group would be different because it would all be in one place.

So what do you all think?

Default Card Ministry

I would love to get a card ministry started at our church - or actually build on the one we have. Currently our church sends cards for birthdays, anniversaries, get well and some thinking of you. However, these are store bought (or charity fundraising) cards. Not all have envelopes and with some, words in the card get changed to show it is from a group, rather than an individual. We have a number of people (at least 6) that make cards, regularly attend SU! parties that we have at church, and I think would be willing to participate in making some for the church. Time has been the biggest constraint right now, along with who pays for what supplies and ideas for the cards. If you get a group going, I would be happy to participate.

I would be interested in being part of such a group! I have been in charge of a card ministry at my church for a few years now. In fact I'm working on church cards tonight. I hope you get this group going...I'd love to exchange ideas.

ok, I have started a Yahoo Group for us. Go to this site http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Stampi...inistrySupport to join. I am also thinking that we need to keep this thread bumping up to catch everyone's eye so they can be included. When you go thru the process of joining, make sure you mention SCS in the message to the moderator or I won't approve the membership because I am trying to keep spammers out. If you have any questions about Yahoo groups, post them here and I will answer them as soon as I can and it will also help to keep this thread bumped up.

I also have a few threads from a while ago that I subscribed to that are about card ministries. I will try to hunt them down and post this thread to them to get more interested people.

Thanks everyone!

I supply cards for two minister's wives, which are co workers. I do mine at low cost for them, and I keep them simple, not a lot of pricey embellishments. I am always scrounging at Big Lot's, Dollartree for stuff to use. It is fun for me, really getting creative with my resources.

Thanks for the invitation. I just went to the Yahoo groups (followed the link) and entered my information. I look forward to sharing ideas with others and helping improve our church's card ministry.

Just got home and noticed this e-mail.
I run a card ministry at my church, but it's done a little bit different than seems to mentioned here.
Have a headache, but will probably check it out later.

I just requested membership. I am llotr on yahoo. Thanks for starting this group! It's timely for me - we had our first card ministry meeting last Saturday. We plan to meet every 2-3 months to make cards for a variety of folks - our own church members, missionaries, troops, nursing home residents. I'll be anxious to read what everyone else is doing!

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm really excited that so many have expressed interest in this! I believe that the Lord can work mighty things through a simple card. I've seen it happen! Can't wait to hear what everyone is doing!

I belong to a small church in a small town. Some years ago, they started sending birthday postcards . A few years ago, my mother decided to make birthday cards to send, so she volunteered and took that as her personal ministry. The wonderful thing about it is that it has given my 93 year old Mother a purpose and a feeling of usefulness. In her younger years, she enjoyed sewing and needle work. Her eyes won't handle that any more, and she had to give up some of the things she enjoyed in the way of crafts. Making cards is a new thing for her. It is a new interest and she enjoys the creative challenge. She started with cards and stickers. I bought her a few rubber stamps for Christmas, and have taught her how to use those.

My point is to consider that there may be older people within congregations who can make cards where they can no longer actively enjoy other crafts. I know that my mother finds pleasure and purpose in this task. I applaud anyone who wants to have a card ministry and encourage them to also creatively think about those whom they might recruit among those in their congregations who are elderly and alone.

I am in a card ministry at church. I supply all the birthday, anniversary etc and another lady sends them out. I also send to the soldiers (just under 17,000 sent to date) and I am now making cards for the church to sell in their bookshop with all the proceeds going into the building fund. Busy, busy busy doing cards... I will see if you will accept me into the fold. aka sprtchick.
Blessings.

Default Prayers, please!

I decided to post what we're doing in our card ministry. I am looking for something to fill my time until my doc's office opens in 4 hours. I need relief for a raging UTI!!!! Yikes!

Anyway, dh & I changed churches last fall. In our previous church, which was small, I made and sent birthday and anniversary cards to our members and regular attenders. I felt led from the beginning to start an encouragement-based card ministry at our new church. The head of the women's ministry approached me about it before I told anyone, so I felt that was confirmation. We had our first meeting last Saturday, and 6 ladies came. I had prepped out 2 fairly simple cards, and did a brief devotional on encouragement. The ladies made one of each card to take home, and I asked them to prayerfully consider who to send them to. A few of them approached me Sunday all excited because they knew who their cards were to go to. We also got several extra cards made that we will be sending to the missionaries our church supports.

I prepared a survey to find out what people's interests/leadings were. We've decided to meet every 2-3 months and to make cards for different purposes each time. A group of our ladies go to a nursing home in town every Friday, so at our April meeting we'll be making cards for the residents. We will also be supplying our church office with cards to send to people who are going through a difficult time.

Should I post this on the yahoo group as well?

Default Card ministries

I just joined (I think) I have never been in any Yahoo groups so I might need some assistance with information on what to do to post or read messages. I think this is a great group idea and look forward to the sharing of information.

Until I'm approved (d.stein) here is what I've been doing. Several years ago, our church did Purpose Driven Life. It really spoke to my heart. I never really talked about my card making at church at that point, for fear that people would possibly think I was trying to get "workshops".
After PDL, I decided to start the card ministry. My pastor had no idea what I was talking about - LOL, but said it was interesting. Fast forward a few weeks, told my hairdresser about what I was about to start and she calls me a few days later. She told someone and they were closing a store. They
GAVE me 2 card spinners. A smaller spinner with 3 sides (keep at my home) and a larger one with 3 spinners, which I took to church.
There are some ladies who help me, but lately it seems like I do it myself. The cards are FREE, but we do accept donations (a little decorated coffee can).
