I would like to cancel my newspaper subscription but do not know where else I can get Michaels 40% off coupons. Do they only come in the paper? Are they online? Anyone have any other suggestions.
I believe that if you are not a recipient of your local paper, you can still receive the 40% discount as long as they are offering a coupon at that time. You just tell the cashier that you don't get a newspaper, but would still like the discount.
HTH!

Sabina,
I believe they only come in the paper. You can just pick up your Sunday paper (I believe it's every other week; last weekend no flier but I think Sunday will have one). I know sometimes they put coupons in the mid-week papers as specials and only for home delivered papers.
HTH
AFAIK, they're only in the paper and our local stores will not give you one in-store. However, they will allow you to use coupons from any of the other local craft stores (which still come in the paper). I have people that I work with save the ads for me. Works great when they remember.;)

michaels coupon
I know our store will not give the discount with out coupn..they used to but no more...We only take the weekend paper, because the coupons usually cover the cost...I try to watch and use any for prouducts we buy... Ask around somtimes local businesses will give you their coupon or Sunday adds , usually Michaels are in every other week but recently we have had them more regularly every week... Even ask at your store..explain you want to quit the paper but will miss the coupon... hope this helps
I used to get one in my mail on Wednesday, but the flier hasn't been included for the last couple of weeks. The last time I went to my Michael's and asked if they had a coupon that week, they said yes, but said they no longer gave them in the store because people were asking for more than one. Too bad! I don't get a Sunday paper. Not sure if it's worth it just for that.

If you are planning a big purchase a Sunday paper would pay for itself but probably not every week. But, you may find other things in the Sunday paper that in total make it worth while.
At my store you just have to ask at the cash register. Sometimes they make me put my name on a list other times not. I don't subscribe to the paper so I asked them how I could get the discount and they said to just ask for it.
I never see a flier in the Sunday Boston Globe, which carries the fliers for everything else I could possibly (not) want. Has anyone else found one? Or is it in another Boston paper? :(
The Michaels by me used to accept competitor's coupons but hasn't taken them for over a year now. Plus, their policy for allowing a discount without a coupon differed depending on which cashier I got. So it'd probably be best to go to your local Michaels and ask the manager what their policies are.
Most of this has already been mentioned in previous posts, but here it is again. I used to work in a Michael's. Some stores do have the ads in the store for you to get the coupon, but they are usually gone within the first hour or two of opening on the first day of the sale. Otherwise, the only way is to get the paper (which you could just buy at the newsstand when you know there's going to be a coupon.) Also, try testing out the different cashiers at your local Michael's. Some stores look the other way when the cashier's keep extra coupons under the cash register for the purposes of scanning when the customer specifically asks for it. I used to do that, but only when asked if there were any left. However, some cashiers are "anal to a fault" and are strictly "No coupon, No discount." If you find a cashier that will give it to you if you ask, start building a relationship with her and you'll be set. (Who knows... maybe she'll become your customer some day!! If you're a demo that is!)
My Michaels is a real stickler with their coupons. You have to have one in hand. They were not always like that. I only get the Sunday paper and it is well worth it.
Thanks for all the great feedback ladies. Looks like my best option will be to just go buy the Sunday paper when I know I want to purchase something from Michaels. The stores in my area no longer give the discount at the register. You have to have the coupon. I will have to ask them about competitors coupons...
