Have you tried the haberdashery department of a fabric store? I'm not sure if what I get here is the same weight as the SU one because I'm not sure I've ever received a card with any on it to compare but if I can get a couple of different weights of it here, I'd be pretty sure that you could over there!
I *think* there is still a fabric store about an hour away from me. Most of them have closed. Joanns and Hobby Lobby are about it for fabric. I'll check there the next time I'm in the area. Thanks for the suggestion!
The SU linen thread is so nice. I've never seen anything that compares -- so this is one item I always buy from SU. Great on vintage or masculine cards and doesn't create too big of a bump for extra postage. Let us know what you find.
This was asked a couple of months back on the demo side, and this was the closest suggestion: Amazon.com: May Arts Ribbon, Natural Burlap String
I have used this type of string in many colors, and it is very nice to use. The ivory is what seems to be closest to SU! "thread".
Is it wrong of me to want every color of that may arts thread? Thank you for the link. It was mentioned on another thread but no link. So I wasn't sure if it was the right one.

This is exactly why I wish I had a crafty friend near me - this would be a easy thing to split ...
You could put the word out and I bet someone (or someones) would go in with you - and mail them their X number of yards. Postage would be so little! (But I know what you mean.)
Here's where I get mine: http://logcabinshop.com/oc/index.php...h=LINEN+THREAD
It comes in 1 oz. balls & comes in three different thickness: Thin-$5.25, Medium-$5.25, Heavy- $7.85.
It lasts for sometime & I am HAPPY with the quality too!
HAPPY SHOPPING!!!! ;)
I found a large roll at Ellen Hutson. $14 for 400 yards. Unfortunately, they are currently out of stock. I'm not allowed to post links but you can search the site for Natural Burlap and it will come up. I love having such a large quantity on hand!
This one is almost identical to the one Stampin Up carries.
After checking out multiple online stores and comparing prices and shipping costs, as well as considering how much I need, and wondering if what I'd be ordering is really like the Stampin Up kind that I had, I went ahead and ordered from SU. I figured that since I was going to have to pay shipping anywhere I bought it, I might as well get what I had before. To make the shipping seem more reasonable, I did order a few other things, too. Thanks again to everyone who offered suggestions!

I drooled over the May Arts Twine and finally bought 6 rolls. I did about a year ago and am so glad I did. I always have enough and find I use it more since I do have so much. My daughter go married in April and used it on some boxes I made for the favors. I made 60 boxes and had enough wrap it as many times as I wanted to and still had extras. So I say go for it if you can.
